ASSIGNMENT 1

WHAT ARE CONECTIVITY HARDWARE AND DESCRIBE ANY 10 EXAMPLES.

Connectivity hardware is the hardware that allows computer to be physically connected to

different types of networks. Examples of connectivity hardware are;

 CONNECTORS: This is used to terminate cables in order to be plugged into a network

interface card or another network component
 NETWORK INTERFACE CARD: This device is a PC extension board with its own
unique identifier that plugs into a computer which allows the computer to be connected
to network.
 MODEM; The modem also known as a modulator or demodulator enables computer to
connect and transmit data over phones lines by converting the send the computer digital
signal and back again to the analog.
 REPEATER: This device replicates a signal. Though it weakens as it travels.
 HUBS: This a central point of connection between media segments enabling network
extension to accommodate more PCs
 BRIDGES: This device is used to connect two different LANs or two segments of the
same LAN
 GATEWAYS: It performs a protocol conversion so that different networks can
communicate even though they speak different languages.
 CHANNEL SERVICE UNIT: A device that act as a buffer between LAN and a public
carriers WAN to ensure signals placed on the public lines are appropriately timed and
formed for the network.
 MULTIPLEXER: It is used to share a communication line among number of users by
converting and combining signals from multiple users for simultaneous transmission
over a single line
 ROUTER: Is an intelligence device used to connect two or more individual networks.

ASSIGNMENT 2

WHAT ARE THE CONSTRAINTS TO INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION

TECHNOLOGY (ICT)?

The constraint to ICT is prominent in the rural areas. Often, challenges with context,
tradition and culture. At times these limitations are due to environmental factors, cultural
ingredients, ignorance and illiteracy, limited finance, security problems, lack of computer
experience, lack of time available to learn.
The promoting of ICT could be limited by tradition and cultures. In some rural areas the use
and application of ICT is seen as a taboo due to their primitive thinking. This therefore, limits the
application of ICT.

The environment also contributes to limited ICT application. In an environment where there
is a need to survive, the inhabitants will prefer doing menial jobs to survive than to make use of
computers. The only available computer device is a non-smart phone which is only used for
making calls and at times sending messages.

Some individuals are ignorant of the usage and application of ICT, this is due to lack of
knowledge and interest causing some individuals to be known as Computer Illiterates.

Limited finance and capital is a huge factor of a constraint to ICT. Individuals who aspire to
be computer engineers can’t be that due to lack of finance. Also people who wish to make
business from it like a cyber café will be limited due to lack of finance.

In conclusion; there are many other factors such as lack of experience, fear of theft, and also
lack of time available to learn.

ASSIGNMENT 3

WHAT ARE THE ROLES WE PLAY IN PROMOTING ICT

The roles in promoting ICT are to be performed by the Government and individual. The
roles are as follows:

The fist role is by the teacher in school. Research identified the teacher variable as having
the most profound effect on school achievement among pupils from constrained backgrounds. If
the teacher is effective, his/her students are likely to perform at higher levels.

Government should include ICT in the acquisition of empowerment skills. This will help
ignorant youths to be knowledgeable and interested.

Prices of computer devices should be affordable. The market board should regulate the
prices so as to prevent the rise in price of this device due to selfish interest.

Banks should be able to give loans out to individuals without following some outrageous
procedures. The negotiation between the person taking a loan and the bank should be reasonable,
this will encourage individuals to loan money to purchase computer devices or even open
business using computer.
In conclusion, the government should make available simple computer devices in some
communities like monitor, keyboard, etc.
