Proposal

Checklist & Guidelines

Write a report explaining the genocide you have chosen to memorialize and the design you have envisioned for
your memorial to this genocide. Your report must be submitted by Monday, June 4 and adhere to the following:
• Typed (printed front side only)
• Double-spaced (2.0)
• Time New Roman, size 12 font
• MLA formatting including Works Cited page

Part 1: Background Report (Minimum: 1 page)


Your background section must cover all aspects of the genocide that were noted in the case study, including:
• WHO was involved?
• WHAT happened?
• WHERE did this occur?
• WHEN did this occur?
• WHY did this occur?
• HOW did people respond?
In answering these questions, you must include a minimum of 3 quotations from your research, including MLA
format in-text citations and corresponding entries for the source on your Works Cited page.

Part 2A: Design Plan and Model (Minimum: ½-page)
Your design plan section you will need to include a thorough, written description of what the memorial will look like.
In describing your design, please be sure to note the following:
• What does it look like? (shape, color, material, etc.)
• What word(s), if any, will be incorporated? (names, dates, quotes, etc.)
• What sound(s), if any, will be incorporated? (music, sound effects, etc.)
• What image(s), if any, will be incorporated? (photos, drawings, graphics, etc.)
• What technology, if any, will be incorporated? (video, controls, etc.)
You must incorporate a minimum of 3 instances of symbolism into your design and explain what the items/images
are and what they represent.

Your written description must also be accompanied by a 2D or 3D visual depiction of the proposed memorial.
Your visual depiction can be any medium you choose (paper, computer rendering, model, etc.) It should look neat
and professional and should include labels of all relevant parts.

Part 2B: Rationale (Minimum: ½-page)
Your rationale section must cover all aspects of the memorials that were noted in the case study as well as two
additional questions, including:
• WHO is the intended audience?
• WHAT is being memorialized?
• WHERE will the memorial be located?
• WHEN will the memorial be built/dedicated?
• WHY does this event need a memorial?
• HOW will you utilize symbolism in your design?
• Are there any existing memorials to this event?
o If so, how will your memorial be distinct/unique?
o If there are not any memorials yet, why not?
• Who will benefit the most / be most impacted by this memorial?
