environment, Human-environment interaction, Sustainability and carrying capacity,
Environmental degradation, placing a value on the environment (six values), Environmental
ethics, Major environmental issues.Basic understanding of ethics and debates on engineering
ethics.

Population distribution in the world, Basic components of population dynamics, Population
pyramid (age structure, dependency ratio), Over population- causes and impacts, Projecting future
population growth, Population control, Population pressure on environment, Consumption
behavior and technology and impacts on environment.

Emergence of Sustainable Development as new paradigm, Definition, Basic Principles, Political
