follow these steps to get it done

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
1 - go to settings then click on restart
2 - while in the process of restarting press and hold key f9
release it when you see the submenu
3 - chose the category that you need to perform the master reset.
4 - let the notebook do its job this might take several minutes or hours
depending on the capacity of your hard drive and files.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
note: do not turn off the system. you might see your laptop to restart a few time.

You can try but it might be a different F key though. You can also use your disc since it might
have option to restore, fix, back up etc

Guys try to burn a copy of your windows located next to your drive C. It looks like an extra drive
but thats a copy of your windows, Once you have it use it to master reset your pc.

THE PROBLEM IS WHEN YOU DO NOT HAVE THIS OPTION AND YOU DIDN'T CREATED RECOVERY

INSTALL THE WINDOWS 8 ON THE HARD DRIVE USING ANOTHER LAPTOP THEN PUTTING BACK
THE HARD DRIVE ON THE ASUS MOST CASES LIKE 90% WILL WORK BUT THIS WILL NOT BE UEFI

Do you have a copy of your windows? If not perform one by creating one in your C drive
it's like a back up windows you must watch a different video in how to creat one or google it.

ok, when i did that it said Automatic Repairs, then later the blue screen pops back up and it says
Automatic Repairs couldnt repair your PC. then in smaller letters it says Press Advance options to
try other options to repair your PC or Shut Down to turn off your PC. Log file:

It depends I recommend to make a copy from your hard drive and save it as image disc then
burn it just in case. I did that and I did not have any problems when resetting my laptop I did not
use a disc for this

Mine says, " There was a problem resetting your PC." So I can't reset it. :(
It also says the operating system is missing. And if I go into Refresh Your PC, it says, " The drive

Not all of the drivers will be installed again
You might need to find actual disc or the web the get them. if you are talking about factory
Windows drivers they will be reinstalled again.
If you upgrade to Windows 10 for free you won't have this problem

Download a program called 'backtracker' from the asus website. Make sure you have the correct
version (windows as well as x32/x64). Install the program on your computer and follow the
prompts. Make sure you have a USB with at least 16GB and nothing on it (else you might lose
anything on the USB). Save the image file or w.e ... it explains it all on the program and it's really
straight forward so even non tech-savvy people like myself can understand it. Try going into PC
settings again and resetting back to factory setting or whatever you want to do. You will receive a
prompt for the missing files or w.e then you simply insert ur USB and problem solved. Worked
for me at least...annoying as crap to have to research so much just to restore my computer
though...i remember the good ol' days of f9 and just being able to go straight into restore with
no hassles.

Be patient and wait until is done, do not unplug from power. once it reaches 100% everything
will be deleted and Windows will be up an running then do the initial set up like when you first
purchased your laptop.

I think my laptops knackered
I did a factory reset unaware that you needs a CD to help it through the progress... Never the less
it was my stupidity that got my laptop broke- my battery died midway through it and I've tried
goin on it now and it says "reset fail" then it took me to a screen which was blue giving me a load
of options and i clicked on exit and continue to windows 8, and it did a fix but it didn't fix it...

And it just keeps doing it

Hi I don't know anything about laptops but this morning when I tried to turn on my asus laptop it

I've have already prepared a W8.1 usb, and get this working, but driver install is hell, I really
want to return to factory defaults, cuz' having just 1 usb makes everything hard to use... dude

Yes Partition your hard drive. Thats where your new windows will be installed. You need certain
amount of memory out of your hard to continue this process. in fact you will be dividing the
hard drive for this or sometimes the pc or laptop comes with two hard drives one to partition on
the other one for regular usage. It depends on the pc or laptop.for example in macs you do the
paritition in the same hard drive but a takes about 8gb or more to save and install your operating
system. I hope this can help. You can google how to partition in windows or go directly to asus
support. I never had this problem with my asus when i reset it to factory. Good luck

Nope. In that case you need to do an earlier restore point. That feature will cover anything that

It would be better because if you do that, the recovery options have better graphics, and instead
of the windows logo showing during the reset proccess, the asus logo shows during the reset
proccess.

It depends, some people do need a disc, some people need to partition their hard drive, some
people like me depending on their pc don need any of those.
the vide I created was specifically for this particular Asus model. I'm not sure if it's going to work
for the rest of brands. I have lost of people with issues trying to do this. So since they can not
reset their pc or lap top they dislike my video. so please follow the steps or google how to do it.
Sometimes you need to back a copy of your windows before continuing.

In some cases you have to partition the hard drive before continuing. Did you back a copy of
your windows in your pc?did you burn a copy of your windows in dvd disc?

I use a dell inspiron laptop. My amd graphics properties was not able to launch .so I downloaded
the latest driver and while installing it. It was a black screen and for so much time. So I thought it
crashed I only had the cursor and after some time it was also gone
So I turned I off by unplugging my laptop. But now after that when I started the laptop againg
after the loading dell screen. There is just a black screen blinking. Not at all the windows logo
isn't showing up .its just a black screen blinking. Please help. I cant lose my windows 8 which was
a legitimate one which I got with the laptop...please anyone help me....please...since the
windows screen is not loading I cant use this method... Please help me anyone

You probably have a corrupted windows file sometimes by doing restore to an earlier point can
fix this or by master resetting the whole computer. not every computer is the same, So
sometimes it requires you to partition your hard drive and sometimes you need to back up your
windows. It has different situations.

If your windows is 1.8 you hold zero and click the on button once to get to that menu. Once you
let go of zero then the menu will pop up. :D

Make sure you back up your files or burn a dvd with your windows. You find this when you go to
drive C then you are going to see an option next to it that says image or something. That is your
windows preinstalled. Burn it then use your discs to reset or reinstall your windows.

touched it(i have another laptop and use that mostly, for college mostly)..anyways the gamer
laptop was supposed to be for fun and for backup(in case i get the blue screen of death on the
other laptop(which i occasionally do.lol), but recently i allowed my sis to download games on the
gamer laptop and she effed it up!Dont know what kind of viruses or worms or spyware or
whatever she got, but it was messed up, and i had already created a recovery disk, so i wasnt
worried, until i tried to restore and it wouldnt recognize the cd...which freaked me out!But this is
amazing, saved me lots of stress and cussing! XD thanks!!!!!!!!!!

No. It merely sets it to it's default presets. So if your computer already had windows 8
preinstalled when you first got it, then no worries.

Hello, I followed your instructions, started a factory reset and left it for a few hours and now it
only has the Asus logo in the middle and a little circle thingy on the bottom but it doesn't show
the percentage of completion anymore. Am I doing something wrong?

Dude I tryed lots of methods and I can't still reset my windows 8 it asks for insert media and stuff
llike that, i just bought my computer in september/july 2013 and I need to reset it and I didn't
deleted any windows 8 files !

it only implanted in windows 8. The window 7 they give you a disc to do a factory reset.

i know i realized that after i typed the comment (but my laptop never came with a recovery cd
for vista and i upgraded with 7 disc)

+Dontwhine with windows 7 and Vista is the same F9 if you have asus laptop . Maybe his
recovery partition i damaged. all the asus pc has that. only windows xp doesn't have recovery
partition

i had done it once with windows 7 but it was weird that laptop was basically garabage (g50vt-x5)

check the battery or ac charger. if these are working correctly then you have a hardware issue
like the hard drive or memory.

insert media?? did you do it properly?? insert media is for when you uninstall a driver or
hardware like the dvd player or usb etc. ??? try to bypass or do it again if not done properly you
probably delete inmportant files you might need to get the actual windows 8 software to install
a new fresh copy. let me know how it goes. thanks

did enter any password or pascode with microsoft? that might be the issue if not reset it and
start all over

hi willie trillos i just bort a new asus notebook x401u out of the catalog when i opend the box
and started to set the notebook up when it was all installed i had a picture on my boot screen i
didnt put on there all so a picture on my desktop i didnt put on and in my internet explorer all
my fav web sits were all there whats up with my new netbook any advice will be great thank you
