Closing Remarks

Create an introductory statement:

Ladies and gentlemen, I believe that all of you have well done through the three day conference. It is
my great pleasure that you had fruitful discussions though I think three days is not enough. We have
reached the end of the Seminar on Corporate Social Responsibility, entitled – Maximizing
Shareholder value, and it is my task to provide some closing remarks. It is a sad task, because we
shall be closing the door on lively and stimulating debate, as well as bidding farewell to friends and
associates. However, it is also a privilege and an honour to be entrusted with such an undertaking, at
a gathering of such eminent people from different parts of the world, in the fields of government,
industry, academia and the media.

Congratulate the people behind the activity:

I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to you all for your presence here today’s seminar. Thanks
to our co-organizers, the Jolly Bee, for hosting this event in Cebu, Philippines, and their excellent
organisation. Thanks to the speakers, who brought their extensive experience and perceptive views
to bear on problems related to CSR. I firmly believe that the success of this seminar was due to the
tireless endeavors of the Secretary of Labor and Welfare, Ms. Tina Go, distinguished Members of the
Economic and Social Committee, led by Mr Nee Wang, who acted as moderator today, the Director
of the Philippine Institute of Asia Pacific studies, Bob Uy, and all of the other speakers. We are lucky
to have a rich and varied panel, bringing together valuable experience and insights from a
broad cross section of Asian stakeholders.

Express gratitude to the participants:

Finally, on behalf of the Shufaret Foundation, I would like to express my appreciation to all the
participants for taking time out of your busy duties to attend the seminar and to all your
organizations for sending excellent participants to the seminar. I am sincerely grateful to you all,
who are so deeply concerned about corporate social responsibility problems, for attending this
event

Give commendations or praise:

According to my assessment, the contributions in the past three days have by far excelled the
expectations and ensured that the objectives for this conference have been clearly met. As with all
such events — and this seminar has been an outstanding example — our minds have been assailed
by a torrent of ideas, information, statistics, interpretations and visions, and it will probably be a day
or two before we can sift through them all consolidate our own personal perspectives. There is,
indeed, plenty to reflect upon and, if this in any way enhances our individual and collective
contributions to meeting the global energy challenges, then the seminar can truly be adjudged a
success.

Final blessing:

Ladies and Gentlemen, you have had a long week and have participated actively and I am sure you
are all looking forward to getting back to your respective homes so I thank you once again for your
participation and wish you all a safe journey home. Thank you.
