Electrical Safety

One of the cause of fire, injuries or death is electricity. However, we can

manage this situation if we will take simple precautions when working with or
near electricity and electrical equipment so that we can reduce the risk of injury
to ourselves and to the other individual or workers around us.

According to the Philippine Bureau of Fire Protection, 17,138 fire incidents

occurs in 2015 that has a total damage oh PhP 3,615,089,595.78, its 26.57% is
attributable to electrical connections.

As what we have observed short circuit is one of the reason why there is
a fire caused by electricity. Electrical safety should be the first concern of every
individual so that we can avoid the said damages and cause of death. Every
individual must know on how to use electricity and its materials wisely for the
purpose that the damages will be prevented.
Electrical Design for Industrial Facility

As the technologies evolve, the electrical system also grows in an

exponential rate. The facilities on industrial requires more automation to
increase the efficiency of its operation, safety and reliability.

The Power System Designs in industrial facility considers some various

types such as safety, functionality, reasonable cost, reliability, space economy
and simplicity. The standards of the Philippine Electrical Code (PEC) must be
evaluated on every electrical design to have safety and effective design specially
in industrial section. We should also consider the materials to be used if it is
economical or it is expensive but not appropriate to the facility that it will be
used.

Requirements for industrial facility must be provided to avoid any failure

of its operation. Building electric service, power distribution systems, power
outlet systems for movable equipment, process control systems, materials
handling systems, lighting design, communications system, fire alarm system,
space-conditioning, HVAC system, these things are to be considered in electrical
design for industrial facilities.
Power Supply and Metering Set-up of the Building

Power generation in the Philippines is not considered as a public utility

operation, which means interested parties do not need to secure a
congressional franchise to operate a power generation company. However,
power generation is regulated by the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) who
must issue a certificate of compliance to interested parties to ensure that the
standards set forth in the Electric Power Industry Reform Act of 2001 (EPIRA) are
followed. The Philippine transmission system is composed of three grids, the
Luzon Grid, Visayas Grid, and Mindanao Grid. One characteristic of the grids is
that most bulk generation sites are found far from the load centers,
necessitating use of long-distance transmission lines. A distribution utility has
the task to provide distribution services and connections to its system for any
end-user within its franchise area, as there are different distribution utilities
available for different areas, consistent with the distribution code. They are
required to provide open and non-discriminatory access to its distribution
system to all users.
Climate Change and Power Generation: What’s the Connection?

Climate Change is one of the destruction and suffering that is biggest

challenge confronting the world today. Most nations, including the Philippines,
have been proposing and implementing international and local programs to
reduce damage from this environment crisis.

The generation of electricity is the single largest source of CO2 emissions

in the United States. The combustion of fossil fuels such as coal is the primary
source of these air emissions. Coal supplies 57 percent of the total energy
harnessed to generate electricity (and approximately 86 percent of all coal
consumed in the United States is used for electricity generation). Burning coal
produces far more CO2 than oil or natural gas.

If concerned about global climate change, seek out companies and

products that do not rely on coal for electricity generation. Renewable energy -
- wind and solar fuels in particular -- release negligible amounts of gases
contributing to climate change, even when the manufacturing of the hardware
is considered. Buying electricity from landfill gas power plants is also a good
response to the global climate change threat since methane is not allowed to
seep into the atmosphere.
