EXPERIMENT LIST
Session

1. To study the light (or compound) microscope and different instruments used
in microbiology laboratory.
2. To study the dry heat sterilization and moist heat sterilization (methods and
equipments).
3. Identification and staining of bacteria by simple staining and negative
staining.
4. Identification and staining of bacteria by Gram staining.
5. Identification and staining of bacteria by acid fast staining.
6. To study the motility of bacteria by hanging drop preparation.
7. Preparation of Liquid culture media (Nutrient broth).
8. Preparation of Solid culture media (Nutrient agar).
9. Preparation of agar slants in culture tube.
10.To perform Isolation of pure bacterial culture from mixed culture.
11. To study the transfer of micro-organisms by aseptic technique.
12. To perform evaluation of given disinfectants and antiseptics.
13.To perform Phenol coefficient test and to determine minimum inhibitory
concentration of given disinfectants.
14. To perform test for sterility of pharmaceutical products as per IP.
15. To perform microbial assay of antibiotics as per IP.
16.To perform microbial examination of foods (Raw market vegetables, Fruit
Juice and meat).

EXPERIMENT LIST
Session

1. To Study the factors affecting Rate of Evaporation (Surface area, Concentration and
Thickness/ viscosity)
2. To Study the factors affecting Rate of Filtration (Surface area, Concentration and
Thickness/ viscosity)
3. To study the effect of time on the Rate of Crystallization.
4. Construction of drying curves (for calcium carbonate and starch).
5. Determination of moisture content and loss on drying.
6. Determination of humidity of air – i) From wet and dry bulb temperatures –use of
dew point method.
7. Size reduction: To verify the laws of size reduction using ball mill and determining
Kicks, Rittinger’s, Bond’s coefficients, power requirement and critical speed of Ball
Mill.
8. Size analysis by sieving – To evaluate size distribution of tablet granulations –
Construction of various size frequency curves including arithmetic andlogarithmic
probability plots.
9. To calculate the uniformity Index for given sample by using Double Cone Blender.
10. Determination of radiation constant of brass, iron, unpainted and painted glass.
11. To determine the overall heat transfer coefficient by heat exchanger.
12. Steam distillation – To calculate the efficiency of steam distillation.
13. To study the centrifugal effect on freshly prepared emulsion and suspension.
14. To dry the given wet sample by vacuum drying method.
15. To carry out distillation under reduced pressure.
16. To study the flow of fluids by Reynold’s apparatus.
17. Description of Construction working and application of Pharmaceutical Machinery
such as rotary tablet machine, fluidized bed coater, fluid energy mill, de humidifier.
18. Demonstration of colloid mill, planetary mixer, fluidized bed dryer, freeze dryer and
such other major equipment.
