FibeAir® IP-20 CeraOS 8.5.5 Release Notes for All-Outdoor Products

1. Introduction

1.1 Product Overview

This section provides a brief overview of the IP-20 products described in this
document. A separate Technical Description is available for each product,
providing a full description of the individual product and its specifications.

1.1.1 FibeAir IP-20C

Ceragon’s FibeAir IP-20C sets a new standard in microwave transmission,
combining MultiCore radio technology with QPSK to 2048 QAM modulation.
IP-20C breaks capacity barriers, offering a virtual fiber solution in licensed
frequency bands. Its versatility makes it ideal for a wide variety of cost-effective
deployment scenarios including macrocell backhaul, small-cell aggregation, and
emerging fronthaul applications.
IP-20C can deliver multi-Gbps capacity on a single frequency channel, setting a
new standard for efficient spectrum use. IP-20C’s unique MultiCore radio
architecture is based on an advanced parallel radio processing engine, built
around Ceragon’s in-house chipsets. The result is a superior radio
performance with reduced power consumption and form-factor.
The IP-20C services model is premised on supporting the standard MEF
services (MEF 6, 10), and builds upon this support by the use of very high
granularity and flexibility. Operationally, the IP-20C Ethernet services model
is designed to offer a rich feature set combined with simple and user-friendly
configuration, enabling users to plan, activate, and maintain any packet-based
network scenario.
The FibeAir series “pay-as-you-go” activation key model further enables
operators to build for the future by adding capacity and functionality over
time to meet the needs of network growth without requiring additional
hardware. Additionally, IP-20C’s MultiCore architecture enables operators to
start with a single core with the option of enabling the second core remotely
when network capacity requirements increase.

1.1.2 FibeAir IP-20S

FibeAir IP-20S provides the same basic feature set as the IP-20C, including
QPSK to 2048 QAM modulation, the advanced IP-20 Ethernet services model,
ease of installation and operation, and more, in a single-carrier package.

1.1.3 FibeAir IP-20E

FibeAir IP-20E is a compact and versatile high-capacity, all-outdoor Ethernet
backhaul product designed to operate in the lightly licensed E-Band frequency
range. Its light weight and small footprint make it versatile for many different
applications. Thanks to its small footprint, low power consumption, and
simple installation, IP-20E can be installed in many different types of remote
outdoor locations.
IP-20E enables the user to fully utilize the available WW channelization
schemes in the E-band range, with a maximum of 2.5 Gbps:
 62.5 MHz – BPSK to 1024 QAM
 125 MHz – BPSK to 512 QAM
 250 MHz – BPSK to 256 QAM
 500 MHz – BPSK to 64 QAM
IP-20E runs the same CeraOS software as the rest of the FibeAir IP-20
platform, enabling it to provide the same Ethernet services model and other
advanced radio, Ethernet, and management features as IP-20C and IP-20S.

3. New Features

3.1 Unit (External) Protection in Line Protection Mode

From CeraOS 8.5, IP-20C and IP-20S support Line Protection Mode for unit
(external) protection. Line Protection mode provides an additional option for
unit protection, in addition to Split Protection Mode using an optical splitter.
Line Protection mode can be used for electrical as well as optical GbE ports.
Traffic is routed from two GbE ports on an external switch to a GbE port on
the active and a GbE port on the standby IP-20C or IP-20S unit. LACP protocol
is used to determine which IP-20 port is active and which port is standby, and
traffic is only forwarded to the active port. No traffic forwarding between the
two IP-20 units is required.
Note: The external switch must support LACP. IP-20 supports
LACP for purposes of protection only.
For more information about unit protection in Line Protection Mode, refer to
section 5.2.9 in the FibeAir IP-20C Technical Description for CeraOS 8.5 or
section 5.1.5 in the FibeAir IP-20S Technical Description for CeraOS 8.5, Unit
(External) Protection.
For configuration instructions, refer to section 3.6, Configuring Unit Protection
with HSB Radio Protection (External Protection), in the User Guide for FibeAir
IP-20C, IP-20S, and IP-20E.

3.2 Y.1731 Connectivity Fault Management (CFM)

From CeraOS 8.5, IP-20C and IP-20S support CFM, as defined in Y.1731. CFM
uses Continuity Check messages (CCMs) and Loopback to detect connectivity
faults and to verify connectivity between any two points in the network.
Note: Linktrace, another CFM mechanism, is planned for future
release.
For a full description of Y.1731 CFM, refer to section 5.3.11 1 in the FibeAir IP-20C
Technical Description for CeraOS 8.5 or section 5.2.11.1 in the FibeAir IP-20S
Technical Description for CeraOS 8.5, Connectivity Fault Management (CFM).
For configuration instructions, refer to section 11.5.3, Configuring Service
OAM (SOAM) Connectivity Fault Management (CFM), in the User Guide for
FibeAir IP-20C, IP-20S, and IP-20E.

3.3 IEEE-1588v2 PTP – Transparent Clock

From CeraOS 8.5, IEEE-1588v2 PTP Transparent Clock is supported in IP-20C
and IP-20S units. Transparent Clock measures the PTP packets residential
time inside the unit and over the radio link. PTP slave clocks take into account
the measured packets delay to calculate the offset from the master clock,
which greatly improves the slave clocks performance.
IEEE-1588v2 PTP Transparent Clock in IP-20C and IP-20S requires the two
units connected over the radio link to be frequency synchronized. It also
requires the user to configure the port receiving synchronization from the
customer side, as well as a radio, as Sync sources using SyncE, which is

Ceragon Proprietary and Confidential Page 13 of 58

FibeAir® IP-20 CeraOS 8.5.5 Release Notes for All-Outdoor Products

supported in CeraOS 8.5 for the limited purpose of configuring PTP

Transparent Clock.
IP-20C supports Transparent Clock for Multi-Carrier ABC groups, as well as
individual radios.
For further information on Transparent Clock, refer to section 5.4.4 in the
FibeAir IP-20C Technical Description for CeraOS 8.5 or section 5.3.4 in the
FibeAir IP-20S Technical Description for CeraOS 8.5, IEEE-1588v2 PTP
Optimized Transport.
For configuration instructions, refer to section 9.4, Configuring 1588
Transparent Clock, in the User Guide for FibeAir IP-20C, IP-20S, and IP-20E.

3.4 Timeout for Trap Generation

From CeraOS 8.5, FibeAir IP-20C, IP-20S, and IP-20E support a timeout for
trap generation. When this feature is enabled, a 30-second wait time is
provided after an alarm is cleared in the system before the alarm is actually
reported as being cleared. This prevents traps flooding the NMS in the event
that some external condition causes the alarm to be raised and cleared
continuously.
The timeout for trap generation can be enabled and disabled via CLI. By
default, it is disabled. For instructions, refer to section 22.4, Configuring a
Timeout for Trap Generation, in the User Guide for FibeAir IP-20C, IP-20S, and
IP-20E.

3.5 Support for 5 MHz Channels (ANSI/FCC)

From CeraOS 8.5, FibeAir IP-20C and IP-20S support 5 MHz channels, using
MRMC script 1523. For more information, refer to Supported MRMC Scripts for
IP-20C on page 20 and Supported MRMC Scripts for IP-20S on page 21.

3.6 Support for 125 and 500 MHz Channels (IP-20E)

From CeraOS 8.5, FibeAir IP-20E supports 125 and 500 MHz channels, using
MRMC scripts 4700 and 4704, respectively. For more information, refer to
Supported MRMC Scripts for IP-20E on page 21, and section 8.2, Radio Capacity
Specifications in the Technical Description for FibeAir IP-20E, CeraOS 8.5.

3.7 Higher Modulations in IP-20E

From CeraOS 8.5, FibeAir IP-20E supports the following range of modulations:
 62.5 MHz – BPSK to 1024 QAM
 125 MHz – BPSK to 512 QAM
 250 MHz – BPSK to 256 QAM

5. Feature Release Notes

This section describes significant feature requirements and limitations. For a
full description of supported features, refer to the relevant Technical
Description.
Feature List of limitations Applicability
IEEE-1588v2 PTP – Transparent  1588 TC is not supported when Master-Slave communication is using the IP-20C
Clock IPv6 transport layer. IP-20S
 1588 TC is not supported when Master-Slave communication is using the
MPLS transport layer.
 1588 TC cannot be used on 1+1 or 2+2 HSB links.
 Users should not rely on classification of 1588 PTP packets according to
VLAN p-bits or IP DSCP bits to ensure classification of 1588 packets to a
high CoS.
 Frame Cut-Through cannot be used for IEEE1588 packets.
 In the event of LOF on the radio, 1588-TC will not resume functioning until
the system returns to the maximum configured ACM profile.
Header De-Duplication  Header De-Duplication must be disabled before performing a software IP-20C
upgrade and enabled after the upgrade is complete. IP-20S
 Header De-Duplication cannot be used with 500 MHz channels. If a 500 IP-20E
MHz MRMC script is already selected, Header De-Duplication cannot be
enabled. If Header De-Duplication is already enabled and the user wants to
select a 500 MHz script, the user must make sure to disable Header De-
Duplication before selecting the 500 MHz script.
MIMO  ATPC is not supported in MIMO configurations. IP-20C
LAG  Multi-Carrier ABC cannot be LAG or any other logical group Service Point IP-20C
Script 1501 (80 MHz script)  The user can configure the system to work up to profile 10 even though the IP-20C

7.2 Approved SFP modules for IP-20E

The IP-20E includes an SFP cage that supports regular SFP and CSFP
standards:
 Regular SFP provides a single Ethernet interface: ETH2. This interface uses
two optical fiber cables (one for TX and one for RX).
 CSFP (Dual BiDi SFP) provides two Ethernet interfaces: ETH2 and ETH3.
These interfaces use a single optical fiber cable per interface, multiplexing
TX and RX on the same cable using different wavelengths for TX and RX.
When a Dual BiDi CSFP is used, a single-fiber BiDi CSFP must be used for the
third party equipment connected to the CSFP ports, with opposite
wavelengths for TX and RX. The following table provides an example of a valid
CSFP-SFP pair in which TX=1310nm and RX=1490nm for the CSFP connected
to the IP-20E, and TX=1490nm and RX=1310nm for the SFP connected to the
third party equipment.

8. IP-20C Interoperability with other Ceragon

Products
1. This release supports 1+0 links between IP-20S and IP-20G units on 10,
20, and 30 MHz channels using non-XPIC scripts without ATPC and
without Multi-Carrier ABC.
2. Other than the links described above, interoperability over the radio
between IP-20C or IP-20S, on one hand, and IP-20N, IP-20G, and/or IP-
20GX with RMC-A or RMC-B is not supported for this SW Release.
3. IP-20C and IP-20S are interoperable across the link.
4. MIMO 4x4 is only supported when both Master and Slave share the same
SW Release. The upgrade procedure must be performed simultaneously
on the Master and Slave units.
5. FibeAir IP-20E R2 is not interoperable across the radio link with FibeAir
IP-20E R1. FibeAir IP-20E is also not interoperable with other FibeAir
products.

9. Version Upgrade Compatibility

9.1 Version Upgrade Compatibility for IP-20C and IP-20S

The following table indicates software upgrade compatibility for IP-20C and
IP-20S. In some cases, you cannot upgrade directly from one version to
another. Rather, you must upgrade to an intermediate version, and then to the
higher version. For example, as shown in the table, to upgrade from version
7.9 to version 8.5.5, you must first upgrade from version 7.9 to version 8.2,
then from 8.2 to version 8.5, and then from version 8.5 to version 8.5.5.
When an upgrade requires multiple steps, you must perform each step on all
units in the link before proceeding to the next step. For example, to upgrade
from version 7.9 to version 8.5.5, perform an upgrade from version 7.9 to
version 8.2 on all units in the link. Once that upgrade is complete, perform an
upgrade from version 7.9 to version 8.5 on all units in the link, then perform
an upgrade from version 8.5 to version 8.5.5 on all units in the link.
Failure to follow these instructions will cause critical loss of
functionality requiring RMA at the customer’s expense.
