Problem Sheet 2: The Research Question

1. My (restated) research problem is:


The impact of student learning difficulties on the score of a chemical exam.
This problem restated by some this reason :
- The score of student chemical exam lower than standart score (KKM)

2. My research question(s) is/are:


- What are the factors that make student difficult in learning chemistry?
- How the impact of difficult in learning on student’s score of chemical exam ?

3. Following are key terms in the problem or question that are not clear and thus
need to be defined:
a. Factor
b. Difficulties of learning
c. Score
d. Chemical exam

4. Here are my constitutive definitions of these terms:

Answer :

Writing

Barli Bram (2002: 7) in principle, to write means to try to produce or reproduce writen
message.

Menurut Gebhardt dan Dawn Rodrigues (1989: 1) writing is one of the most important things
you do in college.

Achievement

Something that has been achieved, especially by means of skill or


perseverance (American Heritage Dictionary, 2013).
Score

A rating or grade, such as a mark achieved in a test. (Oxford Dictionary)

Matter / Material

Something that be a thing to tested, thinked, talked, etc.

Daily Test

A way of discovering, by questions or practical activities, what someone knows, or what


someone or something can do or is like (Cambridge Dictionary)

Chemistry

The branch of science concerned with the substances of which matter is composed, the
investigation of their properties and reactions, and the use of such reactions to form new
substances. (Oxford Dictionary)

5. Here are my operational definitions of these terms:

Answer :

Activity in recording material means that students are actively involved in learning and trying
to write down important matters explained by teachers related to chemistry subjects.

Daily chemical test means tests held at the end of the chemistry lesson chapter to determine
the level of students' understanding of the material

Achievement refers to the students score in chemistry examination.

6. My justification for investigating this question/problem (why I would argue that it is an


important question to investigate) is as follows:

Answer :
Learning is process interaction between student, teacher, and source study in a study
environment. In the learning, not only teacher be an active side, but student also should be
active. As we know that the teacher does the lecture method by explaining the material to the
students directly from the oral and by writing on the board. At the time the teacher writes on
the board should students pay close attention and understanding, then the teacher gives time
to take notes. While the teacher explains directly orally, the student should be able to record
the key points of what the teacher explains, because if only listening to the messages obtained
may not be able to enter the long-term memory, it is very necessary to record them so as not
to lack information.

Note for students is very necessary, the record contains important points of a material that is
given directly by teachers or the students' own summary results that is taught by the teacher.
So it is likely that notes between students are different in content. With these notes they must
also be easier to understand, because th notes are the result of their own in capturing a subject
matter. The level of students' understanding of the results of his own notes or borrowing his
friend's note will be different, so that each student is required to be able to record in their
personal book. By reviewing the notes when the test will be conducted to facilitate the
students because it does not need to read many books but they can see a note that contains
important points of a material even that is not contained in the book. Thus, it is expected that
the test scores obtained can be maximized. Therefore this research needs to be done to know
the existence of significant influence of student activeness in writing material to student daily
test score especially on chemistry material.
