Effects of Musical and Rock music
on the growth of Marigold plants

Introduction:
In plants sound is transmitted in the form of waves that travel
through a medium such as air and water the waves cause the
sound cause to vibrate in the air that cause vibration. Marigold
have daisy-like or double, carnation-like flowerheads and are
produced singly or in clusters. Marigolds thrive in full sunshine
can often withstand very hot summers.

A grade 9 student, plan to investigate of there’s a effect of

musical and rock music of the growth of the marigold plants.
We choose this problem to explore the types of music that can
help the marigold plants to grow faster and to observe that the
music can help to grow plants faster.

Background of the Study:

Music and plants
The effect of music on plant growth is still a debatable subject
among scientists and experts. Many experiments have been
performed by both scientists and students to prove that plants
can grow better and faster when they are provided with musical
simulation. Music actually consists of sound waves that travel
through the air at varying frequencies and finally reaching our
ear drums to be recognize as sound and music. When the
plant is exposed to the same music, it also receives the same
sound waves and could in fact be receiving some form of stimuli
that we are yet able to understand. The experiments done by
scientists have shown that some plants grew more quickly after
being exposed to musical stimulation. Most scientists will agree
that seeds that are exposed to music will actually be able to
germinate faster. There are also those who are of the opinion
that plants that are exposed to music may in fact be receiving
better care and attention and therefore grow more quickly. When
someone speaks on sings to plants, then maybe possibly be
supplying the plant with additional carbon dioxide that the plants
will need to grow faster.

Statement of the problem
 Does music affect plant growth?
 How music can help plant growth?
 What types of music can help plant growth

Objectives
General Objective
 Test to see if you can detect any difference between plants that have been
exposed to classical, heavy metal, punk, or Indian sitar music by exposing
plants to different genres. (Don’t forget to take the variable of the heat
emitted from the speaker into consideration!)
 If you place a plant in a noisy area, does it seem to respond differently
than a plant in a quieter spot? (This works best if all other variables are
the same: same type of plant, same sun and water exposure, etc.)

Specific Objective
 To know how music will affect the growth of the plant.
 To know that music can affect the growth of the marigold plant.

Significance of the Study:

Nowadays, many people did not believe that music can affect the plant’s
growth. Researchers make some ways to prove that music can affect the plant’s growth,
Researches buy a some marigold and get a soil with the same amount, and a place
which is exposed from the sun.
We the researchers started to plant and we put in a place which is exposed
from the sun. Everyday, we started to play the music beside the plant every the hours.
We researchers notice the plant is faster to grow with music than without music.
Through this study, we will prove that the music can affect the plant’s growth.
The plant’s growth with music grows more centimetres than without music.

Scope and Delimitation

 Variable Delimitation
- Musical stimulation given to the plant
 Time Delimitation
- The music will played 3 hours everyday
 Subject Delimitation
- The effects of music on the plant growth
 Place Delimitation
- The place should be exposed by the sun.
