EXT. SPACE - TITLE CRAWL
A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...
TITLE CRAWL
STAR WARS
EPISODE VIII
THE LAST JEDI
THE FIRST ORDER reigns. Having decimated the peaceful

Republic, Supreme Leader Snoke now deploys the merciless
legions to seize military control of the galaxy.Only General
Leia Organa’s band of RESISTANCE fighters stand against the
rising tyranny, certain that Jedi Master Luke Skywalker will
return and restore a spark of hope to the fight.But the
Resistance has been exposed. As the First Order speeds
toward the rebel base, the brave heroes mount a desperate
escape....
The camera pans across the star field to reveal D’Qar. A
huge Resistance cruiser vessel, the RADDUS, ascends from the
planet, surrounded by fighters.
EXT. D’QAR - RESISTANCE BASE - DAY
Outside the resistance base, LIEUTENANT KAYDEL KO CONNIX and

a RESISTANCE SOLDIER oversee a frantic evacuation.
RESISTANCE SOLDIER
We’re not clear yet! There’s still
30 pallets of cannon shells in C
bunker.
KAYDEL KO CONNIX
Forget the ammunition, there’s no
time. Just get everyone on the
transport.
(hears a distant boom)
Oh, no.
Connix and Jones look up to see a First Order Star Destroyer
appear in the sky, quickly joined by the Star Destroyer
Finalizer.

INT. STAR DESTROYER FINALIZER - BRIDGE

On board the bridge, CAPTAIN PEAVEY watches the Resistance
cruiser ascending, then turns to GENERAL ARMITAGE HUX.
CAPTAIN PEAVEY
We’ve caught them in the middle of
their evacuation.
HUX
(to the intercom)
Captain Canady, prime your cannons.
Incinerate their base, destroy
their transports, and obliterate
their fleet.
EXT. SPACE - ABOVE D’QAR

The two Star Destroyers twist towards the planet. From
beneath their bellies, massive lazer cannons tilt towards
the base, lenses contracting and expanding as they focus.
The rebel transports rising from the base shift their
trajectory out of the path of the cannons. One ship races
out of their midst, an X-WING. It shoots towards the
FINALIZER.
A monitor glances up from her screen.

FIRST ORDER MONITOR 1
General, resistance ship
approaching. Launching shields in
attack mode.
HUX
A single light fighter?
INT. X-WING - COCKPIT

From the tailseat, BB-8 bursts into a stream of frantic
beeps and whistles.
POE
Happy beeps, buddy. We’ve pulled
crazier stunts than this.

INT. RADDUS - CONTROL ROOM

On the bridge of the Resistance cruiser, GENERAL LEIA ORGANA
sits next to VICE ADMIRAL HOLDO. HOLDO’s attention is
consumed by a monitor showing the Resistance ships’ progress
off their base, but LEIA is looking towards the Star
Destroyers.
LEIA
(to intercom)
No crazy stunts, Commander. You’re
just stalling for time.

POE
(dismissively)
Of course, General.
(to BB-8)
Happy beeps, come on.

CAPTAIN CANADY
(from intercom)
Auto cannons primed and ready, sir.
CAPTAIN PEAVEY
Twenty seconds from ready, sir.
HUX
Fire together on my signal.

POE
(flicks a switch)
Attention First Order! This is
Commander Poe Dameron of the
Republic Fleet.
POE
(from the intercom)
I have an urgent message for Kylo
Ren.
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 4.
HUX
The only message the First Order
will accept is your immediate and
unconditional surrender.
POE
I can only speak to Kylo Ren.
Hux turns dismissively towards Peavey, ready to give the
final order.
POE
The message is from his mother.
HUX freezes. All activity on the bridge ceases as the First
Order Officers turn to stare at him, waiting for his
response.
EXT. D’QAR - RESISTANCE BASE - DAY

The last resistance transport lifts off the ground, its
hanger sliding shut over Kaydel Ko Connix.
INT. RESISTANCE TRANSPORT

KAYDEL KO CONNIX
(over headset)
We’re in the air, Vice Admiral.

Another Monitor clears his throat, breaking the silence.

The Resistance Base is clear of all
life forms, General.
HUX
Focus the auto-cannons on the
largest transports!
LEIA
They’re off the ground, Commander.

POE
They still have to make it out of
atmosphere. Open fire!

Poe’s X-Wing shoots towards the Finalizer as a fleet of
X-WINGS shoots out of the cover of the larger transport
ships, followed by the slower bombers. The small ships race
over the surface of the two destroyers, shooting at the
cannons.
HUX
Captain Peavey, why aren’t you
blasting those puny ships?
CAPTAIN PEAVEY
Those puny ships are too close. The
targeting system can’t get a lock.
POE’S X-WING soars towards the bridge’s window, straight at
Hux, spitting streams of lasers, which at first seem to be
aiming at the bridge, but then strike something above it.
There’s an explosion, the bridge trembles, and outside, a
cannon spirals past the window, crumbling into a series of
explosions.
BB-8 whistles in excitement.

POE
We got ’em!

HUX
Our fighters should already be out
there!
CAPTAIN PEAVEY
They’re on their way.
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 6.
CAPTAIN CANADY
(from the intercom)
He’ll never penetrate our armor.
HUX
He’s not trying to penetrate our
armor, he’s clearing out our
surface cannons. First Officer! Can
you get a lock on the fighters
attacking the other Star Destroyer?
Peavey splutters at being passed over. The First Officer

ignores him.
FIRST OFFICER
Yes sir, on most of them.
The bridge trembles again.

HUX
Captain Canady! Lock on the
fighters attacking us!
CAPTAIN CANADY
Yes, Sir.
HUX
Fire!

Lasers blast from the Finalizer’s remaining cannons,
shooting past the X-wings.

POE
BB-8, that was too close for
comfort. Blue Five, what--
A massive explosion sounds outside the cockpit and another
X-WING wheels past, crashing into the surface of the star
destroyer.

The two Star Destroyers’ massive laser blasts leap across
the void of space, picking the fighters off each other. The
X-Wings twist into a series of evasive manuevers, but a
moment later, hangar doors slide open on the Destroyers’

surfaces, and First Order fighters emerge, chasing after

them. One laser strikes Poe’s X-WING.
POE
Dammit!
He whips the X-Wing around to face the enemy fighter,
pressing his steering column to engage his missiles, but
nothing happens. BB-8 beeps frantically.
POE
Weapon systems are down? You don’t
say!
The X-Wing plunges into a dive.

POE
Work your magic, buddy! We only
need a few seconds!
BB-8 twists in his socket, into a cable-filled hold.

Appendages on his telescoping arm reach in all directions,
electricity crackling over their surface.
POE
Come on, come on...

Resistance cruisers begin leaping into hyperspace, vanishing
in all directions.
HOLDO
That’s it, they’re out of the
atmosphere!

From behind the two Star Destroyers, The First Order flag
ship, the Supermacy, pops out of hyperspace. It eclipses the
entire sun, casting a shadow over not only the rebel base
but the space battle in between.

On the bridge of the Resistance Ship, all the officers,
including Leia and Holdo, stare in horror. Even the Star
Destroyers are invisible beneath the shadow of the
Supremacy. Only the laser bursts give any indication that
the battle still continues.
LEIA
That’s...
HOLDO
Snoke.
LEIA
Ben.

Poe stares up at the Supremacy. A massive grin of relief
spreads across his face.
POE
Gold Leader! Make for the
Supremacy!
LEIA
Commander! Disengage!
POE
No, General! Our bombers are
already in the perfect position!
LEIA
(from intercom)
That was an order, Commander!
In his socket, BB-8 makes the final connection. Electricity
surges over his body as he whistles to Poe.
POE
Gold leader, engage!

Poe whips his X-wing out of the shadow of the Supremacy,
climbing back into daylight as the bombers rise after him,
honing in on the Supremacy.

HUX
Lock on those bombers!
FIRST OFFICER
They’re out of range beyond the
Supremacy.
HUX
Divert all fighters!

On the surface of the Supremacy, a massive cannon twists
upwards towards the bombers.
INT. BOMBER
Paige, the GOLD LEADER, flips switches in her cockpit.
PAIGE
Waiting your signal, Blue Leader.
The First Order fighters speed towards the bombers, but the
remaining X-Wings intercept them.
POE
Aim for that cannon, or you’ll
never get out of there! NOW!

LEIA
Disengage, I repeat, DISENGAGE!

The bombers dip towards the surface of the Supremacy. Flaps
twist open and the bombs spew downwards.
INT. BOMBER
Paige pulls on her steering column, tilting the bomber away
from the Supremacy. She grins and wraps her fingers around
the silver circular pendant hanging around her throat.
PAIGE
Payload dropped.
POE
(over intercom)
All right, Paige, now get out of
there!
The bombs explode across the Supremacy’s surface. Paige’s

entire payload strikes the cannon dead center. Fire sweeps
over the massive dreadnaught, enveloping the cannon,
enveloping half its surface. The ship rumbles. The fire
dies, the cannon is still. And then it begins moving again.

POE
NO!

The cannon fires off multiple blasts in quick succession.
Bombers and X-Wings rain from the sky. Some are able to leap
to hyperspace, but most explode. Paige’s ship is struck in
the bottom half. It swings, its engines hum as it attempts
to jump to light speed, then the engines die and the ship
begins to fall, down, towards the Supremacy.

Poe stares at the falling bomber in horror. Everything is
silent, until his intercom crackles.

LEIA
(from intercom)
Commander, we’re going in to light
speed. Get out of there.
Mechanically, Poe begins flipping switches.

Leia watches as Paige’s bomber breaks into pieces against
the edge of a Supremacy hangar gate. Even as the blur of
hyperspace fills the viewport, she remains expressionless.
The remainder of the resistance fleet leaps into hyperdrive.

Hux stares after the resistance fleet. Peavey, beside him,
turns away from the window. His eyes widen.
CAPTAIN PEAVEY
General...
Hux turns to see a holograph of SNOKE, seated on a throne,
projected before him. The vague figure of KYLO REN is just
visible behind Snoke’s shoulder.
HUX
Supreme leader!
SNOKE
General Hux. You will join me
aboard the Supremacy immediately,
to account for your performance
today.
The holograph flickers and vanishes.
INT. RADDUS - MEDICAL BAY
Inside his bacta pod, FINN’s eyes open.

FINN
Rey...

INT. RADDUS - HANGAR

Poe climbs out of his X-WING, shooting anxious glances
around the hangar. Other pilots are getting out of their
ships. Those that make eye contact look hastily away. BB-8
slips out of his nook and rolls, somewhat sedated, beside
Poe. Suddenly, he bursts into an excited stream of beeps.
POE
Come on, it’s hardly the time...
He looks across the hangar and sees Finn, still attached to

half a hundred tubes and patches and staring around,
disoriented.
POE
Finn!
He runs across the hangar, giving Finn a shoulder to lean

on.
POE
Finn! How long have you
been...uh...we need to get you
dressed. Come on. You must have a
thousand questions.
Finn slowly focuses on Poe’s face.
FINN
Where’s Rey?
EXT. AHCH-TO - DAY
REY stands exactly as we left her in Episode VII, reaching

out with the lightsaber towards LUKE SKYWALKER. Luke barely
seems to see the lightsaber. As he steps down the rocky
cliff path, he only seems to see Rey.
REY
Master Skywalker...
LUKE
Who are you?
REY
Master Skywalker...Your sister sent
me. Leia.
LUKE
I heard the Falcon.
(CONTINUED)

Finally, his eyes drop to the lightsaber. It takes him a

moment to recognize it as his own, but this barely
registers. Luke looks back up to Rey.
LUKE
Where’s Han?
INT. SUPREMACY - THRONE ROOM
HUX kneels before SNOKE’s throne. Snoke looks coldly down at

him. In person, Snoke’s wounds are revealed not as ancient
scars, but open, oozing injuries. Sores surround his lips
and cover his forearms. Dark red blotches, like massive
blood bruises, stain his throat and skull. He wears a loose
white robe that would not be out of place in a hospital. A
medical droid swabs his skin with antiseptic pads.
SNOKE
I did not send you to destroy the
Resistance’s fleet of fighters,
General.
HUX
They won’t be able to mount an
offensive for...
SNOKE
As long as Leia Organa lives, so
does the Resistance. Perhaps she
was in one of the fighters you
barely managed to destroy?
HUX
...no, Supreme Leader.
SNOKE
My disappointment in you cannot be
oversated, General.
Hux stammers for an answer. He is breathing heavily, his
forehead damp with sweat, when Kylo Ren sweeps into the
throne room behind him and kneels at his side.
SNOKE
Arise, Kylo Ren. You have not been
gone long. Good news, I hope?
Kylo stands.
KYLO
We are tracking their ship, Supreme
Leader. As soon as they come out of
lightspeed, we’ll follow them.
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 14.
SNOKE
You are dismissed, General Hux.
Hux scrambles out the door, almost tripping over his own
feet. SNOKE shifts in his throne.
SNOKE
Do you wonder why I keep such a
rabid cur so close?
Kylo bows his head silently.
SNOKE
I would remove him in an instant,
if I believed your skill matched
even half the power of your
bloodline. When I found you, I
thought I had found a new
Vader...But I fear I was mistaken.
KYLO
I’ve given everything I have to
you, to the Dark Side.
SNOKE
Take that ridiculous thing off.
Slowly, Kylo lifts off his helmet. A raw strip of healing
flesh crosses his face.
SNOKE
You have not enough of your
mother’s strength in you, and too
much of Han Solo.
KYLO
I killed Han Solo. When the moment
came I didn’t hesitate.
SNOKE
And your grief split you to the
bone! Better that you had let him
live, so that anger could have
taken its place and made you the
true hand of the Dark Side. But
instead you were defeated by a girl
who had never held a lightsaber!
KYLO
I could never have predicted her
power.
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 15.
SNOKE
You carry Vader’s hubris, if not
his talent. Why would you think
yourself so far above my own
failings?
He leans forward and the paper-thin skin on his neck splits,

weeping pus. The medical droid chitters and dabs
frantically.
SNOKE
I only underestimated one opponent,
my entire life. You’re fortunate to
only have suffered such trifling
wounds. But I admit, the girl is
an...anomaly.
KYLO
I’ll kill her, and I’ll kill Luke
Skywalker too.
SNOKE
You could kill them both, and your
mother beside them. You could
finish the task the Emperor first
set me, and annihilate every child
with a spark of the Light within
them. But as long as your weakness
endures, so will the hope of the
Jedi.
INT. SUPREMACY - OUTSIDE THE THRONE ROOM
Kylo storms out of the throne room and into an elevator. As

the doors close behind him, he looks down at the mask still
in his hand, then suddenly smashes it against the wall in a
fit of rage. He’s still smashing when the elevator whirs to
a halt.
AUTOMATED VOICE
Dentention level.
The elevator doors slide open to reveal Hux, returned to his
normal levels of smarmy arrogance. Hux looks from the mask
to Kylo and smirks.
HUX
Did the Supreme Leader trouble to
ask how you tracked the rebels, or
did you allow him to think you’d
actually done something clever?

Kylo stalks past Hux, who steps into the elevator. Sparks
fly off the electronic componets that were destroyed in
Kylo’s rage, but despite his apparent danger, Hux’s grin
only grows wider.
EXT. AHCH-TO - TEMPLE - LATE AFTERNOON

Luke and Rey arrive at the base of the hilltop. The
abandoned Jedi temple looms above them, ancient crumbling
statues looking out towards the sea. A dozen or so huts
cluster around the path leading up to the temple. Luke sinks
to a step on the lowest stone step.
LUKE
And where’s the Falcon now?
REY
Chewie has it in low orbit, in case
we were followed.
A clatter of beeps seizes Luke’s attention. R2-D2 rolls over
the rocky terrain towards him, whistling excitedly. Luke’s
face breaks into a smile.
LUKE
R2!
He touches the top of R2’s dome, then looks back at Rey.
LUKE
R2 only would have given you the
map if things were desperate.
REY
Leia says that the First Order will
control all the major systems
within weeks. That’s why we need
your help.
LUKE
For what?
REY
We need the Jedi Order back. I
need...The Resistance needs Luke
Skywalker.
LUKE
The Resistance doesn’t need Luke
Skywalker.
(CONTINUED)

REY
Did you hear anything I just told
you?
LUKE
You haven’t told me half of what
you could. Who are you?
REY
I’m with the Resistance.
LUKE
But why did Leia send you? What’s
special about you? Where are you
from?
REY
Nowhere.
LUKE
No one’s from nowhere.
REY
Jakku.
LUKE
All right, that is pretty much
nowhere. So, Rey, from
nowhere...why are you here?
Rey looks like she might be about to lose all patience, but
finally realizes what Luke is actually asking.
REY
Something inside me has woken up. I
need help. I need a teacher.
LUKE
The last Jedi I taught killed my
best friend. Why do you think I’ll
do any better with you?
REY
Please. I don’t know what this is
inside me, but if I keep on not
knowing...if I keep being
afraid...something terrible will
happen. I know it.
LUKE
You’re more than afraid. You’re
angry. Ben Solo...you hate him.
(CONTINUED)

REY
Of course I hate him! Don’t you?
Luke looks away.
REY
He killed Han!
LUKE
Only because I wasn’t there to die
instead.
He stands with some effort, needing to brace himself on R2.

LUKE
Come with me. I need to show you
something.

POE enters the control room with FINN. HOLDO and LEIA are
waiting.
LEIA
I’m glad you could finally join us,
Captain.
POE
Captain?
HOLDO
You’ve been demoted.
POE
For attacking Snoke’s ship? It was
a perfect chance!
He directs his vehemence not towards Leia, but Holdo.
LEIA
It was a trap! And you ordered half
our fleet into it, on a suicidal
run at a ship that couldn’t be
destroyed!
For the first time, Poe really seems to hear her.

POE
You knew about their hull strength?
(CONTINUED)

LEIA
We didn’t have to, to know that
Snoke would never come in person to
a battlefield that held the
smallest threat for him.
LEIA
We’ve lost eighty percent of Blue
and Gold Squadrons, and for what?
POE
Don’t hold those lives over me. I
knew them better than you did.
There’s a tense pause. Holdo steps forward as if to speak in
Leia’s defense, but Leia holds out a hand and stops her.
POE
They all heard your order, and they
all went through anyway. There were
heroes on that mission.
HOLDO
Dead heroes. No leaders.
POE
Oh, of course. I forget how you
prefer it. Dead heroes, one leader.
LEIA
Captain! You are dismissed until
further notice.
Poe stares from her, to Holdo, and finally to Finn, who
stares at the floor. Finally, Poe straightens and walks out
with as much dignity as he can muster. Jaw clenched, Holdo
stares after him. Leia turns to Finn.
LEIA
I’m sorry, you shouldn’t have been
part of that.
She puts on a welcoming smile.
LEIA
How are you feeling, Finn?
FINN
I’m OK. Where’s Rey?
LEIA
I can’t tell you that.

FINN
But you’re in contact with her?
Leia holds up her wrist. She’s wearing a bracelet with a
glowing blue light in the center.
LEIA
It’s a cloaked binary beacon. When
she’s ready, it’ll bring her back
to us.
FINN
How did you get your hands on tech
like that?
HOLDO
Let’s just say that the Resistance
has more talent than pilots.
LEIA
And a good thing, too, after today.
Finn, I need you to go with Vice
Admiral Holdo. We need to find out
everything you know about the First
Order.
INT. RADDUS - CORRIDOR
Interior doors hiss shut behind Finn as he steps out of a

room. Poe is leaning against the opposite wall, BB-8 at his
side.
POE
I thought she’d never be done with
you.
FINN
Me, too.
He glances back at the door, as if it might open again.

FINN
I can’t believe that’s Admiral
Holdo. Battle of Chyron Belt
Admiral Holdo.
They start walking down the corridor. BB-8 trailing behind

them.
POE
Not what you expected?
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 21.
FINN
Not even close. How did she take
out a Star Destroyer?
POE
Two hundred dead fighter pilots.
FINN
What?
Around them, the ship whirs out of lightspeed.
POE
I guess we’ve arrived.
FINN
Arrived where?
POE
The rendezvous, I guess...I can’t
believe Holdo, of all people, is
lecturing me. As if she would ever
risk her own safety.
FINN
You did the best you could. More
than what I could have done.
POE
Yeah. Maybe. What did she ask you?
FINN
Everything. She wouldn’t tell me
anything in return, though. No one
will say where Rey’s gone.
POE
I wish I knew. But if it helps,
Rey’s a lot safer than we are.
FINN
It’s not that. It’s...I should be
with her. If only I could get my
hands on that tracking beacon, for
just one second.
POE
I can’t help with that. But I can
take you to someone who can.

EXT. ACH-TO - BEACH - EVENING

Luke, Rey, and R2 walk down the beach. The shore is on one
side, cliffs rise on the other. An old X-Wing lies
half-submerged in the ocean. Suddenly, Rey stops short.
REY
I feel...
LUKE
Tell me.
REY
Something...evil. Something old...
Luke gestures ahead.

LUKE
There.
Rey steps foreward with trepidation. Ahead, a massive black
crater burrows into the beach. Rippling black glass extends
in all directions. As the waves break on the beach, the
water seems to split around the crater, as if an invisible
shield surrounds it.
REY
What is that?
LUKE
Long ago, a Sith Lord came to this
island. He meant to plunder the
secrets of the ancient Jedi temple.
Instead he was betrayed, murdered.
But his power, the power of the
Dark Side, remains, a cancer
feeding on the planet.
REY
This is what I needed to see?
LUKE
Part of it.
REY
Well, I’ve seen it. Can we leave
now?
LUKE
The pit shouldn’t frighten you. It
may be filled with the power of the
Dark Side, but it is still only
part of a larger whole, bound to
galaxy through the Force.
(CONTINUED)

REY
The Force...
LUKE
Tell me what you know of it.
REY
It’s a power the Jedi have that
lets them control people and make
things float.
Luke sighs, but smiles, as if in nostalgia.

LUKE
Sit down. Legs crossed.
Reluctantly, Rey obeys. She positions herself to keep an eye
on the pit, as if something might spring out of it at any
moment.
LUKE
The Force is not a power you have.
It’s not about lifting rocks. It’s
the energy between all things. A
tension, a balance, that binds the
universe together.
REY
(obviously only pretending to
understand)
Okay.
LUKE
Close your eyes.
Rey does so. Luke begins to pace around her.

LUKE
Breathe. Just breathe. Now...reach
out, with your feelings. What do
you see?
REY
I...I see you.
LUKE
What else?
REY
I see the island. Life. Death, and
decay that feeds the new life.
Warmth. Cold. Peace. Violence.
(CONTINUED)

LUKE
And between it all?
REY
Balance. And energy...A Force.
LUKE
And inside you?
REY
Inside me...that same Force.
LUKE
You see. The Force doesn’t belong
to the Jedi. We only hang in its
balance. Life against death. Hope
against fear. This pit, and
myself...
REY
(opens her eyes)
The pit?
LUKE
If not for the pit, Snoke would
have found me years ago. He has a
gift for sensing those strong in
the Force, even from the other side
of the galaxy. But on this island,
my energy and the energy of the
Dark Side are in balance, neither
overwhelming the other, so from far
away the energies cancel each other
out.
REY
That’s why you won’t leave? Because
you’ve found somewhere safe,
somewhere the First Order can’t
reach you? Well. I’m happy for you,
but the Resistance doesn’t have
that luxury! They need you!
LUKE
I know what you want me to do. Whip
out a laser sword, face down the
First Order. Don’t you think that’s
all I want to do, too?
REY
Well, why can’t you?

LUKE
Because of that balance, Rey. The
history of the galaxy is the
history of the Sith and the Jedi,
warring against each other, tearing
lives and planets to pieces. The
Jedi reigned, until Vader rose up
to destroy them. And then I rose up
against Vader, and Ben against
me...I came here, to the first Jedi
Temple, to understand why.
REY
And what did you find out?
LUKE
Light calls to Dark, and Dark to
Light. The Force demands balance,
and it has called you to restore
that balance. But if you grow in
power, if you defeat Snoke and Ben,
you will only face what I have
faced, a new enemy as powerful as
yourself.
REY
So what are you saying? That Kylo
Ren should tear apart the galaxy
unopposed?
LUKE

Rey swallows and takes a deep breath, as if fighting back
tears. Getting to her feet, she turns to go.
LUKE
Wait.
Rey stops.
LUKE
You said you were afraid. That you
don’t want to turn to the Dark
Side.
REY
Yes.
LUKE
Training you as a Jedi would undo
everything I’ve worked towards
since coming here. But I can train
you to resist the fear. To find
peace.
REY
And why would you do that?
LUKE
I know I can’t stop you from
returning to your friends, or doing
everything you can to help the
Resistance. If I can’t help you
save them, I can at least show you
how not to hurt them.
INT. RADDUS - TECH CENTER
Poe, Finn, and BB-8 arrive in the Raddus’s tech center.

FINN
You don’t even know her name? Or if
she’s on this ship?
POE
No, but this is as good a place to
start searching as any.
Poe steps between two stacks of electronics, searching. Finn
goes the other way. The place appears deserted.

I’m going to ask Leia again.
He turns to leave but hears the sound of movement. Turning
back, he sees ROSE standing up from behind a desk. A
welding visor covers the top half of her face and she wears
a pendant identical to Paige’s. From where she stands, she
can see Finn, but not Poe.
ROSE
Did you need something?
FINN
Yes. Um. I was looking for the
person who made General Leia’s
tracking beacon?
ROSE
That’s me.
Poe joins Finn.
POE
We just had some questions--
Rose takes off the visor, revealing her eyes. She’s staring
intently at Poe, and she’s obviously been crying.
POE
...uh, are you okay?
(fumbles for charm)
Sorry. I’m Poe Dameron, and
you’re...
ROSE
Rose. Rose Tico.
POE
Tico.
(eyes widen)
As in Paige Tico?
FINN
I’m sorry, what’s this about?
Rose steps out from behind the desk, pulling the pendant
away from her neck. With a flip, she opens it, revealing it
as a locket. On one side is a family portrait, showing Rose
as a ten-year-old, Paige, two other little girls, their
parents. On the other is a small blue light, which
illuminates the picture.

It’s about Paige. My sister.
POE
I didn’t know Paige had a sister.
ROSE
She had three. I’m the last one
left.
She snaps the locket shut.

POE
I’m so sorry for what happened to
her. I had no idea that the hull

Yeah. You only knew that General
Organa had told you to disengage.
She lowers her head and wipes her eyes. Finn and Poe
exchange uncomfortable glances.
ROSE
You had a question about the
beacon?
FINN
Yes. My friend Rey, she went to
find Luke Skywalker. And I need to
go after her. But General Organa is
keeping the location secret. So we
thought...
ROSE
You thought I could tell you where
your friend is.
FINN
If anyone can, it’s you.
ROSE
Do you understand how the beacons
work?
Finn and Poe glance at each other. Finn shakes his head.
ROSE
Each pair cycles through a
virtually infinite, completely
random sequence of frequencies,
over which they broadcast encrypted
location data.

ROSE
Sure, if the beacons stayed on the
same planet. You try
chronologically syncing the devices
to account for hyperspace dilation

tell me where Rey is?
ROSE
The only place the frequency list
is stored is on the device itself.
FINN
So you can’t tell me.
ROSE
Can’t--won’t. The Resistance can’t
risk Luke’s location falling into
the wrong hands.
Suddenly, alarms start blaring. The lights flash red.
FINN
What’s going on?
Rose rushes back to her desk, Finn and Poe close behind. A
large monitor behind the desk shows a holographic image of
the Supremacy hanging over the Raddus.
INT. SUPREMACY - BRIDGE

Hux leans over a table, staring through the bridge window.
In the distance, the small shape of the Raddus is
illuminated against the starscape.
HUX
Ready cannons!

Alarms are blaring throughout the control room as monitors
and officers scramble into position. LEIA is still at the
helm.

They tracked us?
RESISTANCE OFFICER
That’s impossible.
LEIA
Can we jump to lightspeed?

HOLDO
Stop! If they found us once,
they’ll do it a second time.
LEIA

They’ve got us.
LEIA
Not yet, they don’t.

General, enemy cannons are locking
in on us.

EXT. SPACE - MIDDLE OF NOWHERE
Massive laser beams shoot from the Supremacy towards the

Raddus.

The entire ship shakes under the onslaught of the
Supremacy’s weapons. Holographic displays of the ship begin
blinking bright red to identify damaged zones.
RESISTANCE MONITOR
We can’t take another hit like
that.
LEIA
Are shields damaged?
RESISTANCE OFFICER
No, General. Shields at full power.
The ship shakes again, but to a much smaller degree.
LEIA
I want full power on thrusters.
RESISTANCE OFFICER
We can’t outrun them.
HOLDO
We can if they keep firing. Every
hit we take gives us more momentum.

HUX
Why aren’t they going to light
speed?
FIRST ORDER OFFICER

They must have figured out that
we’re tracking them. They’re not
going to waste resources.
HUX
So they’re just trying to stay out
of range. Cease fire.
FIRST ORDER OFFICER
Sir?
HUX
It doesn’t matter what they do. One
way or the other, we’ll run them
aground.

I want every repair droid we have
on our hull, searching for tracking
devices.
HOLDO
Odds are it’s not a tracking
device.
LEIA
What do you mean?
HOLDO
I mean we need to find the
stormtrooper.
LEIA
Finn? You think he’s a spy?
HOLDO
The First Order didn’t find us
until after he woke up.
LEIA
He deserted the First Order. Why
would he go back now?
HOLDO
I just spent two hours debriefing
him. He doesn’t care anything for
the Resistance, only for the girl
Rey.
LEIA
You needed a debriefing to tell you
that?
HOLDO
You run the hull sweep. I’m going
to run an analysis of every
transmission sent since the
evacuation.
EXT. ACH-TO - HUTS - NIGHT

Luke and Rey sit around a campfire, encircled by a ring of
crumbling stone huts. They’re eating an unappetizing looking
dinner. R2 perches behind Luke.

LUKE
So. Jakku. What did you do there?
REY
I was a scavenger.
LUKE
A slave?
REY
More or less.
LUKE
And an orphan.
Rey tenses up. Luke shrugs apologetically.

LUKE
It takes one to know one.
REY
Maybe. I don’t know for sure.
LUKE
I’m sorry.
REY
Do you think...
LUKE
What?
REY
This...the Force, my power...it had
to come from somewhere, didn’t it?
LUKE
It comes from everywhere.
REY
I mean...you and Leia have it. Your
father had it. Kylo Ren has it.
Maybe my parents had it too.
Luke begins to answer, then appears to understand what Rey

is really asking. He chooses his words carefully.
LUKE
That’s true. Sometimes it works
like that. But my father was the
son of a woman with no power
whatsoever. Another slave, in fact.
Sometimes, it’s not clear where it
comes from.

Rey puts her food down.

LUKE
You’re not hungry?
REY
Leia sent me with hope. If there
isn’t any, I have to tell her. I
can’t waste time, if you’re not
going to help me!
LUKE
There it is.
REY
What?
LUKE
That’s what it took for you to
really decide you were leaving. Not
giving up on me, or the Jedi, but
on learning about your parents.
Rey looks shocked, as if she hadn’t realized that’s exactly
what she’s done.
LUKE
The lightsaber.
Rey unclips it from her belt and passes it to him. Luke
reaches out to take it with his robotic hand, the thin metal
fingers curling delicately around the hilt. He ignites the
saber, and R2 beeps and whistles excitedly. The blue light
illuminates Luke’s face as he raises it in exactly the same
arc as when he first took it from Obi-Wan Kenobi. For a
moment, his face fills with that same wonder. Rey watches
him eagerly, looking for signs that his mind is changing.
Then Luke turns the lightsaber off.
LUKE
This lightsaber was given to me
with a lie, about my father. It was
taken from me with the truth. I had
to make another.
Rey stares at him in confusion.

LUKE
Your parentage doesn’t matter
nearly as much as you think it
does.
He goes to return the lightsaber to Rey. Her eyes widen and
she shakes her head.

REY
I can’t. It’s yours.
LUKE
The man who made it is dead. It’s
as much yours as it is anyone’s.
Rey accepts the lightsaber.
LUKE
If all you came for is the truth
about your parents, then by all
means, leave. But if you want to
know how to resist the Dark Side,
then stay.
He gets up.
LUKE
I hope you’re still here tomorrow.
He walks out of the firelight, into one of the small ruined

cottages. R2 whistles a goodbye to Rey, then rolls after
him. Rey stares after them mutely.
INT. AHCH-TO HUT- NIGHT
With a groan, Luke sits wearily on the edge of a

dillapidated pallet. R2 rolls up beside him, still beeping.
LUKE
Old friend...I wish I could make
you understand. But I’m not going
back. Nothing can make me change my
mind.
R2 whirs. A familiar blue projection springs from his dome.
LEIA
(in projection)
General Kenobi. Years ago, you
served my father in the Clone Wars.
Now he begs you to help him in his
struggle against the Empire.
As Leia continues speaking, slow zoom on Luke’s face. His
eyes are full of a terrible, weary sorrow.
LEIA
It hurts me not to be able
to fulfill my father’s request in
person, but they are attacking my

ship and I fear that my mission to
bring you to Alderaan has failed.
It is our most desperate hour.
The projection flickers.

LEIA

Luke sighs and buries his face in his hands. R2 whistles

apologetically.
EXT. AHCH-TO - HUTS - NIGHT
Rey puts out the fire. From her bag, she pulls out a bulky
transmitter.
REY
(into transmitter)
Chewie? Chewie?
A long, growling groan comes back.

REY
Yes, I found him. He doesn’t want
to come. It’s...it’s confusing.
Another growl.
REY
No, stay up there. I’m going to try
again tomorrow. Goodnight.
She shuts of the transmitter and shoves it back into her

bag, then takes off into the huts. She steps inside one, but
it’s mostly broken to pieces.
INT. SUPREMACY - DETENTION LEVEL

EXT. ACH-TO - NIGHT

Rey turns around, searching...

Kylo leans forward.
EXT. ACH-TO - NIGHT

Rey breathes in sharply.
KYLO
You will bring Luke Skywalker to
me.
Rey draws the lightsaber, igniting it instantly.
KYLO
(unfazed)
This can’t be you. The effort would
kill you.
REY
You are going to pay for what you
did!
KYLO
Can you see my surroundings?
His eyes dart around, as if he’s suddenly self-conscious.
KYLO
I can’t see yours. Just you. But
he’s with you, isn’t he? Why won’t
he face me himself?
Rey leaps forward, swinging the lighsaber, and hits empty

air. She’s standing alone in the circle of huts. Her chest
heaves. She spins around, searching, but the huts are
silent, abandoned. It takes several seconds before she dares
to shut off the lightsaber.

Kylo is reaching out, as if to Rey. Slowly, he lowers his
arm. The camera zooms out to reveal he’s in an interrogation
cell. An IT-O Interogation droid, like the one that tortured
Leia on the Death Star, hovers behind him. Strapped to a
table before him is Paige. Her right arm and leg are
missing, her body is covered with burns, ventilator tubes
fill her mouth and nose, and many more smaller tubes pierce
her skin and lead to beeping life support modules. Her eyes
are open, and she stares up at Kylo in bewildered, horrified
delirium.

Did you see her?
He stretches a hand over her head, fingers tensing as the
Dark Side flows through him.
KYLO
...No. Well, then. Where were we?
INT. SUPREMACY - DETENTION LEVEL - OUTSIDE
Two stormtroopers flank the cell door. As Paige’s scream

pierce through, they shift nervously.
Finn and Poe enter the hangar. Around them, numerous small
ships are unloading numerous passengers. KAYDEL KO CONNIX is
glimpsed in the crowd. Old friends embrace.
FINN
What’s going on?
POE
I don’t know. Oh God...is this what
it’s like, being just a captain?
Nearby, C-3PO stumbles off a transport.

C-3PO
Oh, my. Everyone is in such a
frightful rush...
Finn and Poe accost him.

FINN
Where’d you come from?
C-3PO
Why, the Jyn, sir. We are the last
ship in.
POE
We’re abandoning the fleet?

Leia and Holdo sit at the bridge.
LEIA
Any luck?
HOLDO
No transmissions sent from the
Raddus, except those by you and me.
If there’s a spy, it’s someone who
can cover their tracks, or who has
their own transmitter. What about
you?
LEIA
The droids didn’t find any tracking
devices, not on any of the ships.
HOLDO
We have to confiscate all personal
transmitters.
FINN, C-3PO, and POE enter the bridge. Finn and Maz look
resigned, as if they know exactly where this is going.
POE
General Organa! Permission to take
an X-Wing and scout the Supremacy’s
defenses.
Leia ignores him, looking instead to Finn.
LEIA
Really?
C-3PO
I tried to tell him, General.
Entering the bridge without an
invite is a direct breach of
protocol!
Leia sighs.
LEIA
Permission denied. It would take
you hours to find anything. You
can’t outmanuever their guns that
long.
POE
Then tell me there’s a better plan!
We deserve that much!
(CONTINUED)

LEIA
Poe. I know how you’re feeling.
You’re not the first trigger happy
flyboy I’ve dealt with. But right
now, we have to choose our
decisions carefully, because we
don’t have many left.
POE
We need to take any chance we can
get, no matter how small. Tell me
how me scouting
the Supremacy makes our situation
worse.
HOLDO
We’d gain nothing before losing
you. Why are you so determined to
put yourself back out there?
POE
Just because you don’t understand
personal sacrifice doesn’t mean the
rest of us are the same.
HOLDO
Sacrifice with no hope of success
is stupidity. I think you want to
prove that you’re just as good as
our dead bomber pilots.
POE
Aren’t dead pilots your favorite
kind?
LEIA
Poe! You are out of line.
(to Holdo)
We have to get the crew scanned for
transmitters.
(to Poe)
I don’t want to see you back on
this bridge unless I asked you
here. Got it?
POE
Yes, General.
He and Holdo lock eyes warily, but neither says anything.
Holdo breaks the gaze first, turning away to a large screen.

(over intercom)
This is Vice Admiral Holdo. All
crew, gather in the hold.
EXT. ACH-TO - HUTS - DAWN

Rey steps out of one of the small huts. She comes to the
place where she saw Kylo Ren the night before. She stands
still for a moment, waiting, and her hands tighten around
the lightsaber.
EXT. ACH-TO - HUTS - MORNING

Luke emerges from his own hut, R2 just behind. Luke looks
around, but sees no one. He heaves a sigh. R2 starts
beeping.
LUKE
The cliffs?
EXT. ACH-TO - CLIFFS - MORNING

Luke comes down the cliff path and stops. Below, Rey is
practicing sparring with a massive stone monolith. Her
lightsaber hums as she swings it closer and closer. She
spins, and her lightsaber collides with Luke’s. Luke whips
his lightsaber around, disengaging their blows. They spar
for a few moments, until Luke gets past Rey’s defenses,
stopping his saber a centimeter away from her exposed
shoulder.
Rey looks at the blade and grins, impressed in spite of her

defeat. Then Luke flicks the lightsaber, leaving a shallow
burn on her skin. Rey shouts with pain and, in instinct,
brings her lightsaber down with everything she’s got.
The lightsaber freezes in midair. Rey tugs at it furiously,

but it won’t move.
REY
What did you do that for?
LUKE
You have to learn to resist your
anger. Even in the middle of
combat.
He lets her struggle a moment more.
(CONTINUED)

LUKE
Take a deep breath. Close your
eyes. Calm yourself.
Rey glares at him, but obeys. Luke’s voice becomes soft,

rhythmic, like he’s leading a meditation session.
LUKE
Good. Let go of your anger. Feel
the island around you. The planet.
They’re bigger than your pain.
Okay. That’s it. Try again.
He releases Rey’s lightsaber. She steps back and approaches
the duel more cautiously. They spar another few rounds until
Luke is able to knock her blade out of the way and slap her
on the shoulder. Rey gasps in pain. Luke approaches,
lightsaber spinning.
LUKE
When your anger threatens to
overwhelm you, you have to step
back. Play the defensive until
you’re ready.
Rey blocks his blows, but he’s driving her back towards the
cliff edge. She catches his lightsaber with her own and
holds it, her face illuminated in green and blue stripes
beneath them. Her expression is set, determined, but slowly,
becomes one of serenity. She frees her lightsaber and is
able to drive Luke back several steps.
Luke disengages from the spar.

LUKE
Good. But it’s easy when you know
I’m not actually trying to kill
you. Now. I want you to think about
Kylo Ren.
EXT. ACH-TO - AFTERNOON

Rey falls with a weary groan at the edge of the cliff,
turning off her lightsaber. Luke, despite being older, seems
hardly drained at all.
LUKE
Enough for today?
REY
Is this how you defeated the
Emperor?

LUKE
Not exactly.
REY
Then why...
LUKE
You have to do better than I did.
Offering his left hand, he pulls her to her feet. Still
holding the lightsaber, Rey looks down, over the edge of the
cliff. Hundreds of feet below is the pit.
REY
The pit...does it, do things?
LUKE
What do you mean?
REY
I saw something last night.
Something...something only the
Force could have done.
LUKE
These places take advantage of your
own weakness. They show you
whatever will lure you closer to
the Dark Side. What did you do?
Rey glances to the lightsaber in her hand.

LUKE
Exactly what it wanted. Rey,
nothing the pit does can harm you.
Not unless you let it.
REY
Do you ever see anything?
LUKE
Sometimes.
INT. RADDUS - TECH CENTER
FINN and POE arrive back in the tech center.

FINN
Even if she agrees, Leia never
will.

Rose comes out from a side room, a bag slung over her
shoulder.
ROSE
Didn’t you hear the order? We’re
supposed to gather in the hold.

They’re looking for a spy. We know
for damn sure it’s none of us.
ROSE
I’m going. You can come, or you can
stay, but if you want back into
General Organa’s good graces,
you’ll come.
She shoulders past them.

POE
What I want is to make sure your
sister didn’t die in vain.
Rose stops short.

POE
Listen. I don’t know how we’re
being tracked, but I don’t think
Holdo and Leia are going to find
out in the next few minutes. We
need a better plan. And we need
your help.
ROSE
Me? Why me?
FINN
If you can invent that tracking
beacon, I’m sure you have a few
more tricks up your sleeve.
Rose doesn’t look entirely convinced, but she nods.

ROSE
Maybe.
POE
I was thinking, it doesn’t matter
if the First Order can track us if
they can’t follow us.

What do you mean?
POE
We infiltrate the Supremacy.
ROSE

If I get you to the hyperdrive, can

ROSE
Sure. The problem is getting past
the shields.
FINN
You can’t disable them?
ROSE
I’m a mechanic, not a hacker.
POE
Good thing you’re not the only
genius we know.

Poe, Rose, and Finn cluster around Rose’s display. MAZ
KANATA is visible on the screen, sitting in a comfortable
chair and drinking a fancy looking beverage.
MAZ
Of course I can do it.
POE
How fast can you get here?

I’m a bit tied down at the moment.
Poe looks irritated and begins to say something. Maz laughs.
MAZ
You don’t need me. You just need
the codes. I’ll transmit them to

FINN
Great. Thanks, Maz.
MAZ
Not so fast. You’ll only be able to
disable one segment of the shield
at a time. And you’ll have to turn
it back on before anyone notices,
or the First Order will catch you.
Good luck.
Her image disappears from the display. A moment later, a
stream of data covers it. Rose snatches her data pad and
punches buttons.
ROSE
Got’em. Now. Let’s get down to the
hold.
INT. RADDUS - HOLD

A resistance officer stands over a pile of small personal
transmitters. The entire resistance is in the hold around
him, sitting down, chatting. Resistance soldiers walk
between them. Rose, Finn, and Poe stand in a small group
somewhat apart from the rest, BB-8 alongside them.
RESISTANCE OFFICER 2
(over his own transmitter)
We’ve searched the entire crew,
General. All transmitters
confiscated.
LEIA
(over transmitter)
Good. Keep the crew there.
Around them, the Raddus whirs, preparing to jump to
lightspeed.

They’re preparing to jump to
lightspeed, sir.
HUX
Ready the hyperdrive. Prepare to
follow them.
INT. RADDUS - HOLD

FINN
Why are we going into lightspeed?
ROSE
If we took the spy’s transmitter,
the First Order won’t be able to
follow us.
POE
And if we didn’t, we just wasted
time. Come on. Let’s go get what we
need.
The group moves to leave the hold. A resistance officer
moves to intercept them.
RESISTANCE OFFICER 3
Sorry, no one leaves until General
Leia allows it.
Poe looks like he might argue, but Rose pulls him away.
ROSE
(in a murmur)
There’s another way out. Through
the service tubes.
EXT. ACH-TO - LATE AFERNOON

Rey is smearing a healing ointment on the burn on her
shoulder when everything around her seems to go quiet. She
looks up.

He’s been sparring with you?
Rey seems infuriated, but takes a deep breath.
REY
I’m not telling you anything.
KYLO
You don’t have to say anything. I
can see you’re trying to control
your anger. Is that why he’s doing
this? To train you to resist the
Dark Side?
REY
Maybe.
KYLO
It isn’t working. You have that
look in your eyes, from the base.
When you called me a monster.
REY
You are a monster.
KYLO
Is that what he told you?
REY
It’s nothing I didn’t already know.
I saw you kill your father.
(pause)
Why did you hate him?
KYLO
I didn’t hate him.
REY
Give me an honest answer. You had a
father who loved you, who gave a
damn about you. So why?
KYLO

REY
Why did you...why did you kill him?
I don’t understand.

night I destroyed his temple. Then
you can decide who the real monster

He reaches a hand towards her. Rey hesitates. She begins to

lift her hand...and he’s gone. She’s alone.
Kylo clenches his hand into a fist, face crossed with

frustration. He looks down to Paige, who’s struggling to
breathe. Reaching into his robes, Kylo pulls out her locket.
KYLO
It seems this is all you had to
give me, after all.

pulls. He continues to stand over her body, the tube
dripping blood and mucus. The life support monitors around
Paige begin beeping alarms as she struggles to breathe. This

expressionlessly. Finally, everything flatlines and she lies
still. Kylo turns to a nearby droid.
KYLO
Dispose of the corpse.
EXT. ACH-TO - EVENING

Luke and Rey are back at the campfire.
LUKE
Something’s on your mind.
REY
It’s nothing.
LUKE
What is it you want to know?
REY
Kylo Ren...Ben Solo...how did he
turn?
Luke sighs.
LUKE
The balance was weighted towards
the Light...the Dark Side called
strongly to him.
REY
But how?
LUKE
Snoke. At first, Ben struggled more
than the other students...he
thought, as my nephew, he should do
better...he was resentful, and so
young...Snoke exploited him. Took
his time, fed his anger...I sensed
the darkness rising, but in my
hubris...I thought I could correct
it.
REY
What did you do?
LUKE
Nothing. For far too long, I
continued training him, as if
nothing was wrong. I thought he

could overcome his darkness through
his discipline...instead, that
darkness spread to some of the
other students. When I finally
realized how great his darkness had
become, I tried to confront
him...he attacked me, and his
disciples as well. I had no
choice...I killed them...and in the
aftermath, he must have thought me
dead as well. He vanished, after
slaughtering the other students.
Han blamed me. Leia blamed
Snoke...but Han was right. I should
have realized. By training so
many students, I had guaranteed at
least one would fall to the Dark
Side. And the balance would be
maintained...
REY
That’s why you believe this about
the balance?
LUKE
The Light overpowered the Dark. The
Dark had to answer.
REY
Ben didn’t turn because he had no
choice. He turned because you made
a mistake! You could have stopped
it earlier, and you didn’t!
LUKE
Ben was my fault, but had I turned
him, but the Dark Side would only
have found someone else.
REY
You mean, Snoke would have found
someone else. But if Snoke had died
with the Emperor, none of this
would have happened! Everything
you’ve said about balance, and the
demands of the Dark Side--It’s
people, and the choices they make,
that determines whether or not they
turn! Not the balance, whatever
that even means!
She’s worked her way up to a shout. Luke sits there quietly,
letting her continue shouting.

LUKE
Of course your choices matter. You
can choose to grow in your power,
or not. But when the Dark Side
starts to call, or the Light, it
can be almost impossible to resist.
REY
Almost! Not entirely! You can stay
on this island, hiding from the
war, thinking that’ll fix
everything. But the Resistance
needs all the help it can get. If
you won’t go, I’ll have to go,
instead.
She jumps to her feet.
REY
(to R2)
You coming, or staying?
R2 whistles sadly.
REY
Fine.
She starts to leave. Luke stares after her in dismay.
EXT. AHCH-TO - CLIFFS - EVENING - CONTINUOUS

Rey pulls out her transmitter.
REY
Chewie? Chewie, can you hear me?
A roar.
REY
I’ve failed. He’s not coming. Get
me out of here.
Another roar. Rey comes to the edge of the path and looks
down, to the pit.
REY
...No. Not right now. Give me a
couple of hours.

EXT. SPACE
A small, dark green planet hangs in the background as the
Raddus comes out of hyperspeed.

LEIA
How long before we know if they
followed us?
RESISTANCE OFFICER
Not long.
HOLDO
(to intercom)
Keep watching the crew.
EXT. SPACE
The Supremacy comes out of hyperspeed, right behind the
Raddus.

LEIA
At least we know it’s not a spy.
HOLDO
It must be a tracking device.
LEIA
We have to abandon ship.
HOLDO
So we jump back to the fleet.
LEIA
The First Order didn’t stop us from
loading the crew onto the Raddus
because they were tracking this
ship. They wanted us all together.
But they’ll know if we try to off
load the crew. They’ll send out
their fighters. And we don’t have
the numbers to protect them.
HOLDO
So, what now?

LEIA
I don’t know.
Holdo narrows her eyes. Getting up, she walks over to the
viewport. On one side hangs the small green planet. On the
other, the Supremacy.
HOLDO
I might have something.
INT. RADDUS - CORRIDOR OUTSIDE SHUTTLE

A wall panel is kicked into the corridor from within the
wall. Poe, Rose, and Finn emerge, BB-8 just behind.
POE
All right. Let’s do this.
He punches a button on a wall pannel. A shuttle’s doors
slide open.
FINN
Poe. Um. You...you have to stay
here.
Poe whirls around in shock.
POE
What?
ROSE
He’s right. Somebody has to stay
behind, to let Leia know when we’ve
disabled the hyperdrive.
POE
You won’t be able to tell me. The
shuttle transmitters won’t pierce
the shields.
FINN
As soon as we’re back outside their
shields, we’ll tell you. If we
don’t make it back...you’ll have to
find a way to figure out whether or
not we succeeded.
Poe slowly accepts what they’re saying.
POE
Right.
He and Finn shake hands and briefly embrace.

POE
Good luck out there.
FINN
Yeah. You too.
Finn steps into the shuttle. Rose shoulders a toolbag over

her and goes to follow them.
POE
Hey. Rose.
She reluctantly faces him.

POE
I just wanted to say...
ROSE
I know. It’s not your fault. My
sister heard the same order you
did.
POE
I was her commanding officer. I...I
should have listened to Leia.
ROSE
Yeah. But I know Paige. She would
have taken the same chance you did.
She lowers her head and wipes her eyes.

POE
I...I’m sorry, anyway.
ROSE
It’s okay. At least she didn’t
suffer.
Finn pokes his head outside the shuttle.
FINN
Rose, you coming?
ROSE
Yeah.
She steps into the shuttle. She and Finn stand side by side,
looking back at Poe, until the shuttle door shuts between
them.

EXT. SPACE - OUTSIDE THE RADDUS

The shuttle takes off into space, towards the Supremacy.

Hux and Kylo stand on the bridge.
HUX
Why bother making another jump,
when they knew we were following
them?
KYLO
They thought they’d found the
tracker.
He looks down at the surface of the bridge. Paige’s locket
is open and from the blue light, a holograph displaying
several lines of data is being projected. Kylo’s brow
furrows.
KYLO
They’re moving...towards us.
HUX
The ship’s staying put.
KYLO
Not the ship.
(to a monitor)
Run a decloaking scan.

There’s a small shuttle inbound,
sir.
HUX
Ready weapons.
At the weapons station, the officers begin turning dials.
KYLO
Wait. If we shoot them down, and
the transport leaps to lightspeed,
we won’t be able to follow them
again.
HUX
They’ve already jettisoned the
tracker. We have to attack before
they go to lightspeed.

KYLO
Is the shuttle in range to scan for
life forms?
One moment.
(pause)
Two life forms aboard.
KYLO
And the transport isn’t readying
its hyperdrive?
No, sir.
HUX
What does it matter?
KYLO
They don’t know they’ve gotten rid
of the tracker. It’s a personal
device, a sentimental one...they’re
trying to infiltrate us.
HUX
A sabotage mission?
KYLO
They’re going to try and take out
the hyperdrive.
HUX
They know they can’t get past our
shields.
KYLO
Show me the readout of our shields.
The monitor pushes a few buttons and a massive holograph of
the Supremacy is projected in the middle of the bridge.
Rings around it show the shields. Kylo and Hux stare it it,
waiting. One of the sections flickers, barely perceptibly.
KYLO
They’re through.
HUX
I can’t believe it.
KYLO
Let them board.

HUX
Are you mad?
KYLO
If we let them think they’ve gotten
what they want, they’ll return to
their ship. Then, when they make
the jump to hyperspeed, we’ll
follow them again.
HUX
You’ll just...let them sabotage the
Supremacy?
KYLO
I expect you’ll find a way to trick
them.
He walks away from the bridge. Hux stares after him,

furious. Then he turns to an officer.
HUX
Put me through to Captain Phasma.
EXT. ACH-TO - BEACH - EVENING

Rey stands at the edge of the pit. With extreme caution, she
crouches at the edge, reaching into the darkness. Her feet
slip.
REY
No!
INT. PIT - EVENING

Rey falls, landiing in a pool of water. Swimming to shore,
she looks around. The pit seems empty.
REY
Where are you...
She closes her eyes, and opens them again.
INT. SUPREMACY - CORRIDOR

Kylo stops in his tracks.
KYLO
What did he tell you?

REY
You were angry. You turned...but
you can turn back. You have a
choice.
KYLO
So did he. When he slaughtered my
friends...the Knights of Ren...they
died to save me.
REY
He was defending himself!
KYLO
Luke Skywalker, against a handful
of barely-trained Jedi? He didn’t
have to kill them. He did it to
punish me. But he only made me
stronger.
REY
Maybe he didn’t. Maybe he did. I
wasn’t there. But I do know what I
saw you do. I know what you think
strength is. And you’re wrong.
KYLO
How would you know? Rey...come to

REY

KYLO
You will never reach your true
potential training with Luke. But
you already know that, don’t you?
You already know that if you want
to understand the Force, I’m the

Luke reaches the edge of the pit and leans over it.
LUKE

Luke’s voice echoes through the cave. Startled, Rey looks
around, and Kylo is gone.

Kylo turns, punching the wall in frustration. An approaching
officer stops in fear.

Sir...
KYLO
What?

We’ve identified one of the
Resistance saboteurs.
LUKE
Get out of there!
INT. PIT - EVENING
REY
(to herself)
Not yet...
Rey’s brow furrows as she focuses.

KYLO
Let the girl escape, but I want
that treacherous stormtrooper in
custody.
REY
Finn?
Kylo’s head jerks up as he realizes she’s back.

KYLO
Rey!

Sir?
INT. PIT - EVENING
Rey stumbles back, alone again.

REY
Finn...
Looking to the entrance of the pit, she scrambles to the top

of a large stone pillar and leaps.
Luke grabs Rey’s wrists and drags her out of the pit.
LUKE
What were you thinking?
REY
I have to go.
LUKE
Whatever you saw, it was a trick.
The pit wants to lure you to the
Dark Side.
Rey and Luke’s hair lift in a sudden gust of air as the

Falcon lands down the beach. The ramp lowers. Rey starts to
run towards it. Luke tries to follow, but he’s slower.
LUKE
Rey!
Rey stops on the ramp.
LUKE
Please. At the very
least...remember not to give in.
Not to your anger, or to your fear.
The ramp closes, lifting Rey into the Falcon, and the Falcon
takes off into the sky. Sand blasts in all directions from
the force of its take off. Luke stumbles back, raising a
hand to shield his face, and lowering it to watch as the
ship bursts into hyperdrive.

EXT. SPACE - OUTSIDE THE SUPREMACY

Rose and Finn’s shuttle rises up against the belly of the
Supremacy.
INT. SHUTTLE
ROSE
You’re sure this is our way in?
FINN
If I’m sure of anything, it’s this
ship’s trash schedule.
As if on cue, an airlock slides open and trash spews into

space.
INT. SHUTTLE
Finn pilots the shuttle into the airlock. Another set of

gates open.
INT. SUPREMACY - TRASH COMPACTOR
The shuttle lands and Rose and Finn exit, looking around
cautiously.
FINN
This way.
He leads them away from the shuttle. The solid mass of

garbage the shuttle landed on quickly gives way to heaps of
trash standing in pools of stagnant water.
ROSE
Tell me we landed close to the
exit.
FINN
Right there.
He points across a pool of disgusting, rancid water. The

only way across is through. Rose groans in disgust as
they wade into the water.

You get used to it.
ROSE
Really?
FINN

Rose’s foot catches on something.

ROSE
Agh!
FINN
What?
ROSE
I kicked something. It felt...it

A corpse’s hand emerges from the water beside her. A moment

later, Paige’s entire corpse breaks the surface.
ROSE
Oh...Oh god...
Finn rushes to her side.

FINN
What? Who is it?
Rose’s hand wraps around her locket. Finn follows the
gesture.
FINN
Your sister?
Rose nods.
FINN
They must have retrieved her after
the crash.
Rose says nothing.

FINN
Rose...Rose?
ROSE
They know we’re here.
She opens the locket and clicks a button on the side. A
holographic data readout is projected above her hand.

ROSE
It’s how they’ve been tracking us.
As the conversation continues, they guide Paige’s corpse to
lie on a pile of trash.
FINN
You gave your sister a beacon?
ROSE
We swore...after the rest of them
died...we swore we’d never lose
each other. I thought it was
destroyed when her ship went down.
I didn’t realize...
FINN
We’ve got to get out of here.
ROSE
No. They’ll know.
FINN
So we leave the tracker behind and
get out of here. By the time they
figure it out--
ROSE
They’ll be watching us too closely
for that. They know we came with a
mission. We do anything that makes
them think we’re on to them, and
they fire on the Raddus.
FINN
So we keep going.
His eyes light up with a plan.
FINN
The transmitters.
ROSE
The transmitters?
FINN
You and I act like we’re towards
the hyperdrive. We’ll take a path
that takes us towards the
transmitter room. From there, we’ll
be able to contact Poe and tell him
to get the Resistance out of here.

And you and I...we’ll be trapped
here.
She looks down at her sister’s body.
FINN
Hey. We got each other. We’ll find
our own way home.
Rose takes a deep breath. She covers Paige’s body with a
filthy tarp and stands, wading into the trash again. Finn
follows.
FINN
Rose. Rose, you sure you’re okay?
ROSE
Everything since the evacuation has
been my fault.
FINN
Hey. No. It’s not your fault. You
just wanted to look after your
sister.
ROSE
I should have realized.
FINN
And you did. We’re going to fix it,
OK?
Rose nods.
INT. SUPREMACY - TRASH COMMPACTOR - DOOR

Rose and Finn stand near the door. An electronics panel is
open and Rose is working on it with a set of tools.
ROSE
Why’d you come?
FINN
What?
ROSE
Poe and I wanted to help the
Resistance. But you...you just want
to find your friend.

Might as well make myself useful
while I’m waiting.
ROSE
Don’t.
Sparks fly from the panel and she flinches.
ROSE
You want to prove yourself, to
Leia. You think that if you do
this, she’ll tell you where Rey

ROSE
It’s okay. I would have chased
after Paige, too.
Finn’s guarded expression falls, and he looks at Rose as if

he’s seeing her in a new light. She doesn’t appear to
notice. A light in the electronics panel turns from red to
green.
ROSE
Ready?
FINN
Ready.
The door hisses open.
LEIA speaks into the intercom.

LEIA
All crew, to the hangar. Prepare
for evacuation.
Poe enters.
POE
You wanted to see me?
HOLDO
Yes. I want you to get all the
remaining pilots into X-Wings.
You’ll escort the shuttles down to
the surface.

POE
The surface? Of what? Where are we?
LEIA
Dantooine.
She smiles.
LEIA
There’s an old rebel base down
there.
POE
That’s insane. Even if you cloak
our craft from their scanners,
they’ll be able to see us going.
HOLDO
Not if we do it at the right time.
She presses a button. A holographic mockup of the Raddus,
the Supremacy, Dantooine, and Dantooine’s sun appears before
them. As she talks, the elements move to illustrate her
words.
HOLDO
In two hours, the Supremacy will
be between us and the sun. You’ve
seen the shadow it casts. When that
happens, the shuttles will descend
to the surface and take cover in
the mountains. As soon as the
shuttles are safe, the Raddus will
leap back to lightspeed. The
Supremacy will track us. We’ll
lead them all over the galaxy.
POE
Um.
LEIA
What is it?
She recognizes his horrified expression.
LEIA
What did you do?
POE
The Supremacy might not be able to
follow you through hyperspace.

HOLDO
What?
POE
Rose and Finn are on board the
Supremacy. They’re going to disable
the hyperdrive.
HOLDO
You can’t be serious.
LEIA
If we evacuate, and the Supremacy
gets trapped here, there’s no way
it won’t notice the base.
HOLDO
But we won’t know if they’ve
succeeded until we make the jump.
LEIA
Not necessarily.
(to Poe)
You, stay here. We have to wait for
the Supremacy to be in position
anyway. We’ll see if Finn and Rose
can succeed by then.
EXT. SPACE - ABOVE DANTOOINE

The Falcon exits lightspeed.
INT. MILLENIUM FALCON - COCKPIT
Rey sits in the co-pilot’s seat. Chewie is piloting.

REY
(into transmitter)
Leia! Leia, can you hear me?

LEIA
Rey!
Leia, Holdo, and Poe all rush to group around the
transmitter.

Rey, is Luke with you?

REY
No. I couldn’t make him come. Is
Finn there?

Leia looks at Poe.
LEIA
You want to tell her?
Poe sighs.
POE

Finn...He’s, uh, on a mission.

REY
What mission? Where is he?

POE
Um. He’s on board the Supremacy.
Trying to shut down the hyperdrive.
Rey lowers the transmitter, her gaze drawn to the massive

shape of the Supremacy.
REY
I’m going in after him.
POE
(over transmitter)
You can’t. They’ll blow you to
bits.

No they won’t.
(to Chewie)
Take me to the Supremacy.
Chewie roars but turns the Falcon towards the Supremacy. Rey
flips switches.
A holograph of the Falcon appears in a display.

Incoming ship, sir.
HUX
Lock weapons.
They’re not in attack mode.
HUX
What?
Rey’s voice crackles over the intercom.
REY
This is the Millenium Falcon,
hailing Supremacy. My name’s Rey.
I’m here to talk to Kylo Ren.
INT. SUPREMACY - HANGAR
The Falcon’s shuttle lands in the hangar. Kylo, flanked by

stormtroopers, watches as its doors hiss open and Rey steps
out.
KYLO
You came.
REY
I couldn’t stay away. The Dark
Side...
KYLO
Don’t lie to me. I know you’re here
for your friends.
Rey turns pale.
(CONTINUED)

KYLO
I promise, they’re quite safe.
He steps forward. Rey steps back, reaching for her
lightsaber.
KYLO
I’m not going to hurt you.
REY
Why should I believe you?
KYLO
No matter what you tell yourself,
at least some part of you is here
for me. For the Dark Side.
He holds out a hand.

KYLO
Come with me. I promise. I’ll bring
you to your friend.
Rey hesitates, but finally steps forward and follows him.
EXT. AHCH-TO - NIGHT

Luke sits with R2 by the pit. R2 burbles sympathetically at
him.
LUKE
Well. At least I still have you.
He stands. A voice emits from the pit behind him.
LEIA
(o.s.)
This is our most desperate hour.
As she continues speaking, Luke turns. A full-size
holographic projection of Leia as a young woman hovers above
the pit. R2 screeches in shock. He is not the one projecting
the image. Leia’s eyes focus on Luke and abruptly, her image
shifts, showing her at her current age.
LEIA
Help me, Luke Skywalker. You’re my
only hope.
LUKE
Get out of my head!

He kicks the glass around the pit. The projection flickers

and fades.
YODA
(o.s)
Anger, young Skywalker?
Luke turns to Yoda.

LUKE
Master Yoda. It’s been a while.
YODA
Left you, the girl has.
LUKE
I tried to train her to resist the
Dark Side. But I failed. She left
too soon.
Yoda starts chuckling. Luke glares at him.
LUKE
Don’t start.
He sits down on a rock protrusion at the edge of the cliff.
LUKE
She’s so powerful already. It
already might be too late.
Everything I’ve done, since Ben
turned...wasted.
YODA
So what now, Young Skywalker?
LUKE
What’s left? Just me. And this pit.
This pit, feeding on the life of
the island...when I die, the energy
of the Light negate its power.
YODA
Sit here another ten years, will
you? More than death, in you there
is.
LUKE
I wish I could go, more than
anything. But it’s the Dark Side
that’s calling me. If I answer...

YODA
As powerful a fear as loss, is fear
of the Dark Side.
LUKE
What are you saying?
YODA
Calls you, the pit does. You stay.

Still you stay. It knows, perhaps,

It’s trying to keep me here?
Yoda lowers his head.

YODA
Hmmm.
LUKE
Why didn’t you tell me so before?
YODA
Ready to listen, you were not. You
still might not be.
Luke stands. He approaches the pit and looks down into its
cold center.
LUKE
But, the balance.
YODA
Strong you are already. Balance
will not shift, if only at Leia’s
side you stand.
LUKE
Master...
He turns back around, but Yoda is gone.

The doors to the throne room hiss open and Rey steps inside.
She looks around and sees Snoke’s red-armored guards first.
Then she sees Snoke and stops short.

(to Kylo)
Liar!
She reaches for her lightsaber. Snoke reaches out with the
Force and snatches it from her grip, drawing it to his hand.
Rey stumbles back and hits the doors, which have closed
behind her. Kylo drops to a knee.
SNOKE
Well done, my good and faithful
apprentice. My faith in you is
restored.
He puts the Rey’s lightsaber down on the arm of his throne
and looks to Rey. Instantly, his face contracts in a snarl.
SNOKE
You.
He grabs Rey with the Force, dragging her through the air.
Rey shouts and struggles, finally coming to a halt only feet
from Snoke’s throne, suspended facing down, legs above her
head. Snoke stands, legs trembling, and reaches a hand to
her face. Rey grits her teeth and shudders as he touches
her.
SNOKE
No. Not her. Well, well, well. The
Force never fails to surprise.
INT. SUPREMACY - CORRIDOR 2
FINN and ROSE hurry down the corridor, looking anxiously

around them.
FINN
The hyperdrive’s this way.
He steps into a door. It closes behind them. A moment later,

Captain Phasma, at the head of a legion of stormtroopers,
steps into frame.
PHASMA
(into transmitter)
They’re going through the
transmitter room. Head them off.

The Supremacy moves between the sun and the Raddus. Even
further beyond, its shadow crosses onto Dantooine.

LEIA
That’s it. We’ve only got a small
window of time.
POE
But what if they’ve made it to the
hyperdrive?
LEIA
(to officer)
Prime hyperdrive for jump.
RESISTANCE OFFICER
Yes, General Organa.
The hyperdrive whirs.

Hux looks out over Dantooine. The massive shadow of the
Supremacy obscures the Raddus.
HUX
Tell me what they’re doing.
FIRST ORDER OFFICER
The resistance is readying their
hyperdrive, sir.
HUX
Ready ours.
FIRST ORDER OFFICER

But, sir...we can’t follow them.
HUX
They don’t know that.

LEIA
Is Supremacy readying for jump?
A pause.
RESISTANCE OFFICER
Yes, General.
HOLDO
Their hyperdrive is still
functional.
LEIA
Order the evacuation.

REY
Kylo! What is he talking about?
Kylo just stares, as bewildered as Rey. Snoke turns his hand

and Rey’s body rotates slowly through the air.
SNOKE
You think me cruel, do you not,
young Rey? Allow this to be proof
that I am also merciful. Twenty
years ago, I hunted a woman across
the galaxy. A woman untrained and
desperate, but strong enough in the
Force to evade me. Finally, I
caught up with her. I cut her down.
But not before she did...this.
Standing has drained him of strength. He collapses back into
his throne and the medical droid skitters to his aid. Rey
falls and collapses in a heap at the base of the throne.
REY
My...my mother?
SNOKE
I knew she had passed through
Jakku. That must have been where
she sold you, in exchange for a
ship.
He laughs.

REY
You’re lying!
She jumps to her feet, but an invisible blow hits her in the
face and she is knocked to her back. Kylo flinches.
SNOKE
Had she been younger, I might have
thought to look for children. But
the First Order needed me, and I
was injured...this is my mercy,
Rey. I would melt the flesh from
your bone, to avenge what she did
to me. But instead, I welcome you,
my apprentice in the Dark Side, to
stand beside Kylo Ren.
REY
No!
Again, she tries to stand, again, she is knocked back.

SNOKE
Do not press me. My mercy is
greater than my patience. Why do
you resist me? For the sake of your
mother? If she did sell you, you
should thank me, that I cut her
down on your behalf.
REY
I don’t believe you.
SNOKE
Yes. Yes, you do. Now...tell me
where Luke Skywalker is.
REY
Never.
SNOKE
Then you will give me everything!

Again, Rey rises into the air. This time, flat as a board,
arms and legs pointing down towards Snoke. Snoke grins, and
clutches his extended hand into a fist. Rey’s head whips
back and she screams, and screams. Beneath her skin, her
muscles writhe. Her eyes roll back in her head. Still
kneeling, Kylo stares up at her, jaw twitching as he tries
to remain expressionless.
RESISTANCE MONITOR
That’s the last of the shuttles
off, General.
LEIA
All except one. Go on.
The last officers clear the bridge. Poe stays. Holdo turns
to Leia.
HOLDO
You too.
LEIA
Not yet. If Rose disables their
hyperdrive...
HOLDO
In the next five minutes? Unlikely.
It’ll be all right.
Poe looks at her with new admiration.
POE
Let me pilot the Raddus. You go
with Leia.
LEIA
No. You’re staying, but you’re
staying with Holdo.
POE
Why?
LEIA
Once you’ve pulled the Supremacy
away from Dantooine, you two
abandon ship. Only one X-Wing is
left. Poe. You’ll have to pilot.

Leia and Holdo embrace.
HOLDO

They stop.
LEIA

Leia turns to Poe.
POE

LEIA
Poe. You’re the best pilot in the
fleet. I need you to keep her safe
for me, all right? I need you both
back with me.
Poe nods, overwhelmed. Leia exits. Holdo and Poe take their
places at the bridge.
POE
How much longer til we make the
jump?
HOLDO
We’ll wait until Leia’s shuttle
hits atmosphere. Ten minutes.
Poe shifts uncomfortably in his chair and runs his hand over
the desk.
POE
Wow. It feels strange, watching
everything from here.

HOLDO
I felt like that my first time up
here, too.
Poe looks at her, startled.
HOLDO
I was a rebel pilot long before I
was a Vice Admiral.
POE
I...I didn’t know.
HOLDO
I don’t think you ever get used to
it. Sitting up here. Watching the
fighters fly past you.
POE
So why?
HOLDO
Someone’s got to man the bridge.
Make those decisions.
She smiles, sadly.
HOLDO
Chyron Belt...
POE
You don’t have to talk about it.
HOLDO
You need to hear. I know how the
pilots’ friends and families would
feel about me. But I knew the odds.
And we brought the Star Destroyer
down.
POE
When are the odds good enough?
HOLDO
What do you mean?
POE
I messed up when I took the others
in with me. But even if there’s
only a sliver of a chance, you have
to do something.

Holdo laughs.

Poe nods and begins throwing levers.

FIRST ORDER OFFICER
Sir, they’re priming their
hyperdrive again.
HUX
They must be trying to escape.
He hesitates, indecisive.
FIRST ORDER OFFICER

Ready our hyperdrive again, sir?
HUX
No. Fire.

The Supremacy fires into its own shadow. The bursts of light
break against the Raddus’s shields...and illuminate a few of
the shuttles.
Hux squints towards the battle.

HUX
Run a decloaking scan.

Sir, we already have a lock on
them.
HUX
Just do it!
The monitor hurries to obey.
Sir. There’s a small squadron of
shuttles, dropping down towards the
planet.
HUX
They’re trying to lead us away.
Lock weapons on the shuttles. Fire
when ready.

POE
What are they doing?
HOLDO
Hit the shields!
Poe lunges for a lever.

A new burst of lasers bursts from the Supremacy, striking
some of the shuttles.

POE
No!
INT. SUPREMACY - TRANSMITTER ROOM

Finn and Rose walk through massive columns of electronic
equipment.
ROSE
There.
She runs to a terminal and begins punching in information.

FINN
Hurry, they’ll be on to us any
moment.

A data readout projected above Phasma’s wrist starts beeping
an alarm.
PHASMA
Move it!
She and the stormtroopers burst through the door after Finn
and Rose.

FINN
They’re coming!
ROSE
It’ll be a minute. You’ll have to
hold them off.
Finn pulls out his blaster.

Snoke releases Rey and she falls again to the ground.
SNOKE
So. Skywalker perceives it is time
for our power to diminish. How
unfortunate that that is no longer
in his control.
Rey gasps for breath.
REY
You...you...
SNOKE
Shhhh. You are powerful. You could
have been stronger even than Kylo
Ren! You could have replaced him in
the Dark Side as my true
apprentice...the new Vader!
Finally, Kylo’s impassive expression breaks.

REY
Never.
SNOKE
I wish I could regret your refusal.
Rey’s body flies across the room, dangling before Snoke. He

clenches a hand and her eyes widen. She clutches her throat,
choking. Kylo stands.
SNOKE
But killing you will satisfy me far
more than training you.
Rey gasps and struggles. Her face begins to change color.
Snoke laughs as her limbs shake. Then Rey’s lightsaber
floats up beside his head. Rey sees it and her eyes widen.
Kylo’s fingers twitch almost imperceptably The lightsaber
ignites, penetrating Snoke’s skull. Snoke falls back into
his throne.
Rey collapses and the guard leaps towards Rey, thinking she
controlled the saber, Kylo among them. Rey has barely pushed
herself into a sitting position when one of the guards
brings his weapon down towards her head. But Kylo’s own
lightsaber ignites between them, into the guard’s chest.
Rey’s lightsaber shoots towards Kylo but Rey reaches up and
catches it as Kylo leaps into a defensive stance.
Together, they cut through the guards. At first, Rey is only

fighting defensively, as Kylo effortlessly slaughters the
guards, but her aggression increases and she batters one of
the guards almost to the wall. Then his weapon gets past her
defenses and hits her shoulder, exactly where Luke’s saber
did.
Rey shouts, but her expression changes as she remembers
Luke’s lessons. A new expression of serenity replaces her
desperation. She returns to the defensive. Two more guards
surround her, but she moves almost as if in a trance, only
guarding herself.
Kylo gets pinned by two guards’ lazer spears. He looks
towards Rey, shocked by her success.
KYLO
Rey! Finish them!
Rey reaches out and the lazer spears fly out of the guards’
hands, freeing Kylo. He cuts the guards down. All the guards
except those fighting Rey are dead. Kylo strides forward.
Two of them deflect their attention, but he effortlessly
slaughters them. Before he can join the battle, Rey brings

her lightsaber around and decapitates the final guard. She

snaps out of her trance, seemingly astonished by what she’s
done.

Finn dodges between transmitter stacks, firing at the
stormtroopers. They continue closing in, Phasma at their
lead.
FINN
Getting closer?
ROSE
Almost...

The resistance shuttles are taking evasive action, but two
are struck and explode. A massive laser bolt rushes towards
Leia’s transport, but then the Falcon zips between them and
catches the bolt on its own hull, which absorbs the blast.
INT. TRANSPORT SHUTTLE

The resistance fighters cheer. Leia smiles.

Chewie roars.

POE
We’ve got to get the shuttles back
to the transport!
HOLDO
There’s no time.
Their intercom crackles.
ROSE
(over intercom)
General!
86.
INT. TRANSMITTER ROOM

ROSE
(into intercom)
General, you can’t jump to
hyperspace! They’re not tracking
you any longer!
POE
Rose, where are you?
A blaster hits the terminal a few feet above Rose’s head.

Finn has been pushed back; they’re standing almost
back-to-back.
ROSE
In the transmitter room.
The stormtroopers are closing in. Finn fires at the base of

transmitter stack. His aim is on point. The stack collapses
across the path, blocking the stormtroopers for another few
minutes.

HOLDO
Rose. Earlier, you disabled their
shields?
ROSE
Yes.
HOLDO
Can you do it again?
ROSE
Yes, one small segment.
HOLDO
(to Poe)
Get in your X-Wing.
POE
You’re sending me at the
Supremacy...alone?
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 87.
HOLDO
Isn’t that what you wanted?
Poe hesitates, unconvinced, but it’s too good an offer to
resist. He runs off the bridge. Holdo begins turning the
Raddus towards the Supremacy.
HOLDO
Tell me what segment, Rose.

KYLO
Rey...
Rey’s attention is seized by a monitor on the wall that
shows the Supremacy firing on the Raddus’s shuttles.
REY
The fleet--order them to stop
firing!
Kylo remains motionless.

REY
Ben...
KYLO
It’s time to let old things die.
Snoke...Skywalker...Sith, Jedi, the
rebels...let it all die.
REY
Don’t do this, Ben. You can
choose...
KYLO
I made my choice!
He points to Snoke’s corpse.

KYLO
That’s why I brought you here. I
knew, when you defied him, when he
tried to kill you...that’s the only
time he’d let his guard down. Now
he’s gone. We can do this. We can
bring a new order to the galaxy.
REY
Ben...
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 88.
KYLO
My father. Your mother. Snoke.
Luke. They’re nothing. It’s just
you and me. Together.
Finally, Rey accepts that he is truly lost. And she

re-ignites her lightsaber.
The Falcon continues zipping between the Resistance

shuttles, providing cover.
Poe runs into the hangar. BB-8 is already in his place in

the X-wing.
Poe scrambles into his seat and begins smashing buttons. The
airlock hisses open.
POE
All right, buddy. Here goes
nothing.
HOLDO
(over intercom)
Poe. Is the hangar open?
POE
Yeah. I’m going.
A familiar whir fills the room around him.

They’re readying their hyperdrive,
sir.
HUX
They’re just trying to distract us
from the shuttles. Increase fire.
89.

ROSE
Holdo! Holdo, there’s almost no
chance you’ll make it through!

HOLDO
Just get the shields down!

POE
Holdo, What are you doing?
Goddmanit.

Holdo’s face is set as she takes aim.
POE
(over intercom)
I should have known. Running away.
INT. SHUTTLE
ROSE
Shields are down!
A final blaster bolt hits the terminal. Its display goes
dark. Phasma swings her gun around and hits Finn aside with
the butt.
Holdo pushes the hyperdrive lever into place.

Poe’s X-Wing is sucked out the airlock as the Raddus leaps
into hyperspace.
90.

The Raddus breaks through the opening in the shield, sending
energy crackling over the oval sphere surrounding the ship.
A millisecond later, the Raddus pierces the Supremacy’s wing
like a bullet.

Poe stares in wonder.
INT. RESISTANCE SHUTTLE

Leia, surrounded by Resistance officers, stare.

Chewbacca brings the Falcon around. For once, he doesn’t
even have a roar.

POE
Finn.

Poe’s X-wing dives towards the Supremacy.

Finn stirs out of his unconsciousness. The transmitter room
is full of burning debris.
FINN
Rose...
He stands, looking around for Rose. He sees her lying in a
heap of wreckage. Hurrying over, he slaps her face lightly.
FINN
Come on, Rose...you have to wake
up...
Rose groans and opens her eyes.
(CONTINUED)

ROSE
Finn...
FINN
Come on, get up. We’ve got to get
to a hangar.
He pulls her to her feet. She can barely stand. Together,
they stumble away.

Kylo stumbles to his feet, looking around. A massive hole is
torn in the wall of the throne room. Rey is nowhere to be
seen.

HUX
I need a systems report!
Failing.
HUX
Which ones?
All...all of them, sir.
We have to abandon ship.
Hux stares into the void where he knows the rebel shuttles
are hiding.
HUX
Deploy all forces to the ground.
Rey runs down the corridor, fumbling for her transmitter.

The ship is falling to pieces around her.
REY
(into transmitter)
Chewie! Chewie, you’ve got to come
get me.
She slows to a stop, gasping with pain and clutching her
side. Chewie roars a question.
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 92.
REY
No...I haven’t found him. Not yet.
Closing her eyes, Rey relaxes.
REY
Finn...
Opening her eyes, she takes off down a new path. An
explosion fills it. Rey turns and runs the other way.

Transports and fighters alike are evacuating the hangar.
First Order soldiers race past Finn and Rose but in their
hurry to escape none seem to take notice of them.
FINN
Come on, Rose. We gotta get onto
one of these ships.
Rose bends over, coughing. Blood comes out of her mouth.
Finn guides her to sit down near a wall. Rose reaches up to
her locket and opens it up. She looks from one side to the
other. Her family, and the transmitter. She snaps the locket
in two, flinging the transmitter side away.
ROSE
We did it.
FINN
Well. We did...something.
ROSE
She...she didn’t die for nothing.
FINN
No. No, she didn’t.
ROSE
That’s all I really wanted. That
her sacrifice really mattered. For
the Resistance...
A blaster goes off behind them. Its bolt strikes Rose square
in the chest. She slumps over. Finn spins around to see
Captain Phasma. He dives out of the way of another blaster
shot.
93.

Hux bursts into the Throne Room. He sees the destruction,
and Kylo standing in the center of it.
HUX
What happened?
KYLO
The girl murdered Snoke. She’s
gone.
HUX
She can’t get far. All forces are
descending on the resistance base.
KYLO
Order your soldiers to stand down
until I arrive.
HUX
You presume to command me? The
Supreme leader is dead!
Kylo ignites his lightsaber. The blade is a hair’s breadth

from Hux’s face.
KYLO
The Supreme Leader is dead.
HUX
Long live the Supreme Leader.
PHASMA
You were a bug in the system.
She fires another blaster bolt at Finn. He ducks behind a
pillar. An explosion from deeper within the ship rocks the
hangar. Phasma retains her footing, but Finn falls out from
behind the pillar. Phasma plants her foot on his chest and
presses the blaster to his head.
PHASMA
You were always scum.
FINN
Rebel scum.
His expression is one of peace.
(CONTINUED)

REY
Get off him!
Phasma and Finn look over to see Rey stumbling towards them,
reaching out with the Force towards Phasma’s blaster. The
barrel moves slightly, but not much. Rey’s brow etches in
confusion. Finn takes advantage of Phasma’s distraction to
push her away. Another explosion rattles the hangar,
splitting a fault line down the center. Phasma staggers back
and is obscured in the flames. Finn scrambles to Rose’s
body.
FINN
No...Rose, no...
Rey stares down at her hands, opening and closing them. The
MILLENIUM FALCON shoots into the hangar behind them.
REY
We have to go, Finn.
Finn takes Rose’s broken locket and runs after Rey.

Chewbacca takes the Falcon out of the hangar. Finn races in
and grabs a transmitter.
FINN
Poe! Poe, are you out there?
POE
Yeah. I’m coming for you.
FINN
We’re on the Falcon. You get to
safety!

POE
Well. That’s just no fun.
95.

Poe’s X-Wing spirals off, after the First Order transports,
spewing lasers. A few fighters rise to meet him, and he
takes them out effortlessly, pursuing the descending ships.

BB-8 bursts into a frantic stream of beeps and whistles.
POE
Happy beeps, buddy. We just gotta
knock out as many of these ships as
we can.

A laser bolt whizzes past Poe’s X-Wing, missing by inches.
POE
Ignore the shields. I want
everything we’ve got in targeting
and firepower.
He clenches his fists around the controls.

The Supremacy finally breaks into two pieces, half of it
crumbling towards the planet, half back into space. Like
asteroids, massive chunks shoot down past Poe’s X-Wing and
the other fighters.

Poe looks behind him to the wreck of the Supremacy. His
expression slowly loses its reckless craze. The only sound
is a few faraway explosions, until gradually, BB-8’s beeps
break through Poe’s haze.
POE
...No. Nevermind.
He pulls the steering column up, steering the X-Wing away
from the First Order ships.

POE
We’re getting out of here.
EXT. DANTOOINE - REBEL BASE
The Resistance shuttles fly into the base’s hangar.
INT. REBEL BASE - HANGAR
Leia and the other Resistance survivors spill out of the

hangars.
KAYDEL KO CONNIX
The First Order is coming in fast!
LEIA
Lower the blast doors. Engage
shields.
The Resistance survivors scramble into place at the various
ancient, dusty consoles.
LEIA
Hurry, hurry!
KAYDEL KO CONNIX
This equipment is ancient, General.
It’ll take a few minutes.

The Falcon blasts away from the wreck of the Supremacy.

Rey joins Chewie and Finn in the cockpit. She looks pasty,
exhausted. She grabs the co-pilot’s seat to keep her
footing. Finn jumps up to help her.
FINN
You all right?
REY
Snoke...
Chewie roars in concern.
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 97.
FINN
We’ve got to get you below deck.
REY
No...
Her eyes roll back in her head and she faints. Finn catches
her and places her gently in the co-pilot’s seat. He grabs
the Falcon’s transmitter.
FINN
(into trasmitter)
General Organa! Rey’s hurt, but
we’re coming.
LEIA
No!

First Order transports land outside the Rebel base and open,
revealing lines of soldiers and siege equipment.

LEIA
We’re trapped here. But you...you
have work to do.

LEIA
(over transmitter)
I’ve sent a message, to every
corner of the galaxy. To all our
allies. You have to rally them.
Bring them back to Dantooine. This
is where we break the First Order,
once and for all.
Chewie groans. Rey stirs feebly, reaching for the
transmitter. Finn passes it to her and closes his hand
around Rose’s locket.
REY
Promise me...you can hang on that
long.
(CONTINUED)

LEIA
(chuckles)
This base has a few tricks up its
sleeve.

LEIA
We’ll be all right. Come back
quickly. And may the Force be with
you.
The blast doors begin sliding shut.
KAYDEL KO CONNIX
General! There’s a fighter
incoming. The doors won’t close in
time.
LEIA
Get to those cannons!
More survivors jump into the seats of bulky cannons,

pointing them towards the entrance.
LEIA
Hold it...hold it...
The fighter bursts through the doors right before they

close. It’s an X-WING. Leia’s face breaks into a smile.
LEIA
Poe!
Leia hurries forward. The X-Wing’s cockpit slides open. Leia

stops short as she recognizes the droid in the socket. It
isn’t BB-8. It’s R2. Pan to the open cockpit. Luke stands
up.
LEIA
Luke.
LUKE
Leia.
He jumps out of the cockpit.

LUKE
Sorry I took so long.

Kylo and Hux disembark from Snoke’s transport ship.
HUX
Bring out the cannons.

It’ll take weeks to get through
those blast doors.
KYLO
You have three days.
EXT. SPACE - FALCON EXTERIOR
Poe’s X-Wing whips up beside the Falcon.

Poe settles back in his seat.
POE
So. Where we headed?
Finn and Rey stare blankly at each other. Chewbacca roars.

FINN
Who?

Poe’s face breaks into a smile.
POE
Great idea, Chewie. I’m right
behind you.
Finn joins Rey in the co-pilot’s seat and draws her into his
arms. Rey finally stops trying to appear strong and clasps
his hand, closing her eyes.

Finn. I...I’m glad I found you.
Her breath is harsh, rasping. Finn’s brow knits with
concern.
FINN
Me too.
He looks over to Chewie, who is making preparations for
hyperspeed.
FINN
Wherever we’re going...let’s get
there fast.
EXT. SPACE - FALCON EXTERIOR

The Millenium Falcon bursts into hyperspace, Poe’s X-wing
just behind. The camera lingers on empty space for a moment,
then pans down to Dantooine, zooming in just close enough to
see the long line of First Order troops collecting outside
the Rebel base.
