2 Explain ergonomic consideration for vehicle
3 A truck weighs 58860 N and is powered by an engine which develops 60.311 kW at 2000
rpm. The rolling resistence is given by 0.02W, where w represent vehicle weight in N. the
frontal area of the vehicle is 7.5 m2 and the coefficient of air resistance K = 0.005, when
the resistance is expressed in N and vehicle speed in km/hr. effective wheel radius = 0.35m,
second gear ration = 2.5: 1 and transmission efficiency in second gear 80%. If the truck is
operating at 20 km/hr in second gear and corresponding engine speed is 2000 rpm calculate:
1) Suitable rear axle ratio;
2) The tractive effort available at wheels;
3) Grade ability of truck;
4) Maximum acceleration (m/sec2)
5) Inertia of revolving component may be neglected.
4 Find the power of passenger car of weight 15 kN including four passengers and luggage.
Engine is running in top gear at 5500 rev/min, size of wheel tyre is 0.5 m. Crown wheel to
pinion ratio is 4.3. Frontal area of body is 2.0 m2. Take coefficient of rolling and air
resistance as 0.015 and 0.045 N/m2/kmph2 respectively
5 A passenger car travelling at 80.45 km/hr is accelerated up a gradient of 1 in 20. The gross
vehicle weight is 11026.4N. It has a frontal area of 1.858 sq.mtr. and the air resistance
coefficient may be assumed as 0.0167. The rolling resistance is 221.7N. At the above speed,
the engine develops 58.88 kW corresponding to an engine speed of 4000 RPM. Rear axle
ratio is 5 :1, transmission efficiency = 95%.
Calculate :
i) The total tractive resistance.
ii) The tractive effort available at the wheels.
iii) The acceleration while ascending the above gradient
