The Beauty ofKorea
Gangjin-gun in Jeollanam-do Province,in the southwest ofKorea,was one oftwo kilnsites in the Goryeo Dynasty (918-1392).To date,some 188kilns,the highest collection in Korea,have been discoveredin the region ofYongun-ri,Gyeyul-ri,Sadang-ri andSudong-ri in Gangjin-gun.Most ofthe kilns date from the10
th
to the 14
th
century,and many fragments ofKoreantraditional celadon ware have been found in the area.Recently,a celadon carrier,the Onnubiho (pictured on thispage),was restored and anchored in Maryang Harbor.The Gangjin-gun Kiln Sites were included on UNESCO’sTentative List ofWorld Heritage sites in January 1994.
     
