1. Introduction

This procedure is applicable to performance testing of 1510, 1532 & HSC-3 pumps at
XYLEM water solutions India Pvt. Ltd, Vadodara (Gujarat).
The general procedure is part of our Quality Assurance System based on ISO 9001
standard.
2. Components of Performance testing –

• Pump package with motor for testing (1510/1532/HSC3)

• Testing bed.
• Piping spools based on pump sizes.
• Pressure transmitters.
• Flow meter.
• Globe valve.
• Power meter.
• Pressure Gauge
• Fasteners, Gaskets.
• Cables.
• Cable Glands , Pica pipe ,Electrical lugs if applicable

3. Testing arrangement:

1. Keep the pump on testing bed.

2. Start the suction connection with piping spools, reducers, elblow etc.
3. Connect the suction pressure transmitter at 2D distance from pump suction.
4. Start the discharge connection with piping spools, reducers, elblow etc.
5. Connect the Discharge pressure transmitter at 2D distance from pump
Discharge.
6. Install the flow meter at 10 D- Distance from pump discharge on discharge
line.
7. Install the glob valve to control the flow on discharge line after min 5D
distance from flow meter.
8. Once piping set up is completed, provide connections for pressure
transmitters on suction and discharge lines.
9. Provide motor connections with starting panel.
10. Do priming of pump before starting, once priming completed then start the
pump on VFD to check the motor direction.

11. Once motor direction is ok then starts the testing.

12. Take the readings as per pump published curve and as per HI 14.6 grade.
13. Take pump temperature for each reading.
14. Measure pumps parameters like, flow, head, power/efficiency,
15. Take prints of graph and testing data from software once testing completed.
16. Compare the pump performance as per HI 14.6 standard.
17. Once pump is ok then dismental the testing set up.

Snap shot the HI 14.6 standard for performance criteria.

For above pumps we were following Grade B

The new tolerance as per ANSI / HI 14.6 is :-

Below 10 KW

For Building & HVAC application

1. From 10 KW to 100 KW – Level 2B

2. Above 100 KW – Level 1B
