Marcio Garcia

Pianist – Arranger – Composer

Marcio Garcia is an internationally recognized pianist and composer born


in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic on July 30th 1991. As a diverse
artist who is able to write, arrange, and interpret music in many different
styles, Marcio is well versed in classical, jazz, latin, electronic, world, and
orchestral music. As an independent artist Garcia has released a number
of recordings as part of his trio project. These instrumental pieces range in
genre from jazz to contemporary music, gathering aspects and flavors
from diverse musical idioms; characteristic of Garcia’s broad-based
artistic approach.

Garcia began his musical studies at age seven at the Centro de


Educación Musical Moderna in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic,
transferring later on to the internationally recognized Conservatorio
Nacional de Musica, where he continued his classical piano education as
well as composition.
Garcia demonstrated prodigious talent from a young age, winning first
prize awards at the national Saint Thomas School Talent Shows and being
featured in acclaimed Dominican children TV show El Club de Isha.

Garcia holds a BM in Classical Piano Performance from the Lamont


School of Music, University of Denver under the instruction of David
Genova, a MM in Jazz Performance under Eric Gunnison and an Artist
Diploma in Jazz Studies from SUNY Purchase Conservatory, studying with
Kevin Hays and David Hazeltine. Garcia also studied classical piano in
Vienna, Austria with Albert Sassman as part of the Cherrington Global
Scholars Study Abroad Program

Garcia has performed at the Stanford Jazz Institute alongside Chick


Corea and Taylor Eigsti, the 2016 Monterey Next Generation Jazz Festival,
Five Points Jazz Festival, at Blue Note NYC alongside Roy Hargrove and
Randy Brecker, The Bitter End, Carnegie Hall, Birdland and the Dazzle Jazz
Club and Nocturne Jazz Club in Denver with the Marcio Garcia Trio. He
has also performed with DEVO co-founder Mark Mothersbaugh for the
original project "Myopia", has performed live at the KUVO 89.3 studios in
Denver, as well as WBGO Jazz 88.3 Studios NYC and live on acclaimed
national late night talk show in the Dominican Republic Chevere Nights.
As a keyboardist, Marcio has performed with Colorado salsa ensemble
“Los Lunaticos, opening and performing with recognized Latin American
stars such as Fulanito, Maelo Ruiz, Elvis Crespo and Jerry Rivera, with Viktor
Kiraly (NBC The Voice 2015 - Top 24) and has produced commercial
music for Major League Baseball.

Garcia has received multiple awards including Recital of Distinction


awards for his Senior Classical Piano recital and Graduate Jazz Recital at
the Lamont School of Music, a Special Citation for Outstanding
Musicianship at the 44th Annual UNC/Greeley Jazz Festival, 1st place in
the 2015 Lamont School of Music Jazz Solo Honors Competition, and 1st
place in the 2015 Lamont School of Music Jazz Honors Chamber
Competition.
