<SUMMARY-INTRODUCTION>

To explain:

The functioning of sensory receptors as transducers.

Concept introduction:

The meaning of transducer is the converter of physical quantity into signals. It is a known
fact that sensory receptors convert the energy generated by stimulus into the electrical
energy. Sensory receptors are those receptors that send the stimulus received by sensory
organs and then transfer the information to CNS and spinal cord.

</SUMMARY-INTRODUCTION>

<EXPLANATION>

Explanation:

Sensory receptor functions by responding to a particular stimulus and transmitting the

information to brain and CNS. In this process, there is conversion energy of that stimulus
into electrical signal. Each sense organ has different type of receptors and the sense only
a particular type of stimulus. For example ears are able to sense stimulus of sound
energy, similarly light is sensed only by eyes and no other receptors.

Sensory neurons are those types of neurons that receive the stimulus from outside the
body and transfer the signals in the form of electrical signals to the brain and CNS. They
are present below skin and sensory receptors are sensory proteins that are present on the
membranes of cells of sense organs. They function as sense organs in a way that they
convert the stimulus received by the sense organs into electrical signals in form of
impulses and send it to brain and CNS. In this way sensory receptors work as transducers.

<CONCLUSION>

Conclusion:

Sensory receptors are present all over the human body, just like sensory neurons. They,
convert the stimulus into electrical energy just like the transducers do.
