BATU PAHAT ATTRACTIONS
Dataran Penggaram
This place was formerly known as Batu Pahat Fountain as there was once a fountain there. It was developed and opened to
the public since May 1961. In conjunction with the declaration of Batu Pahat’s Township, the name was then changed to
Batu Pahat Square. The rebranding of the square was largely due to the refurbishment process it had undergo.
Consequently, the square now is a multipurpose point for local community activities ranging from hosting cultural shows to
religious ceremonies.
Tasik Y
Near to Dataran Penggaram, there is a lake which was previously a mining area. However, it is now reclaimed as a
recreational place for public use. It is fully equipped with recreational facilities such as playground, exercising equipment,
gazebo, jogging track and a reflexology area. There are also eating outlets available at the lake area. These outlets are
popular for their Yong Tau Foo and ABC (shaved ice with condiments). Routinely, on good weather, it hosts J-Robik (aerobic)
programs every Sunday morning and this is open to public.
Punggor Beach
Punggor Beach is set in a scenic village area. Although the beach is no longer suitable for swimming, it still offers
breathtaking scenery especially for the nature lovers. Punggor is considered as one of the best places for those who are
interested in fishing.
BP Walk
BP walk is an area in Jalan Rahmat that offers local and international cuisines. It opens from 3pm till 4am daily. It is a spot
that gathers people from the vicinity mostly for having their dinner and supper.
Ayer Hitam
Ayer Hitam town draws people from other states to come over for its high quality ceramics and artificial flowers products.
Apart from that, a growing number of business outlets in the town now offer bridal needs and home decorations. Agro-

3.1 Intent
The University acknowledges that the issues in regard to the IP of
graduate students created during, and directly related to, the course
of their supervised research studies are different to those of staff who
create IP during the course of their employment at the University. For
this reason, it is essential for the student and the University, in
partnership, to develop Intellectual Property Rights of Graduate Policy
including University and student ownership of the IP that is tailored to
the particular circumstances of the IP that the student has created or
anticipates creating.
38
The intent of this Policy is not for the University to automatically
assume that it owns all the IP created by its graduate students. The
University’s view is that, as such IP is produced with the assistance of
the University through its staff and other resources; the University has
a part-ownership of the IP. If it wishes to exercise a claim on ownership
of the IP, the University will enter into an agreement with the respective
student, in accordance with this Policy, to share the financial benefits
that may arise. Should the University waive ownership, the student is
free to make his or her own arrangements regarding the IP.
Students who are also staff and whose staff roles do not include a
research component will be considered as students and this Policy will
apply provided that the IP which has been created has arisen as part
of their graduate studies. The UTHM IP Policy 2011 will apply to those
students who are also members of the academic staff and whose staff
roles include a bona fide research component.
39
3.2.2 UTHM will have the right to digitize and make public thesis and
dissertations and place these in the UTHM Institutional
Repository. This will be controlled by the University in
accordance with its normal academic practice taking into
account the Institutional Repository Policy.
40
agreement with the University and/or Third Parties, which may
include assigning some or all of his/her IP rights to the
University and/or to Third Parties. In such cases, the Student
shall be given an explanation of the need for such assignment
and an opportunity to seek independent legal advice.
41
3.3.6 When a Member of the University knowingly creates IP that is
owned by the University and which is potentially
commercialisable, he or she must disclose the IP to the
University (through the Deputy Vice-Chancellor or their
approved delegate, the latter appointed in accordance with
protocol distributed by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor from time to
time) on a timely basis and prior to any external disclosure.
3.4 Publication
42
3.5 Distributions of Income from IP
3.7 Redress
43
3.8.1 The university may enter into contracts to provide research
resources to external clients, including those in the commercial
sector. Ownership of IP generated by such research and
distribution of income from that IP will be governed by the terms
of the contracts and clause 3.3, 3.5, and 3.6 above will not
apply.
