NV.

Visualizes direction dependent anisotropy ellipse as implemented in SUTRA.

Estimates lateral anisotropy and orientation of the transmissivity ellipse with MODFLOW
by rotating positions of observation wells about the production well. Rotation and
projection to a quarter-model are demonstrated.

Interpolates a regularly spaced data set from irregular data so areas can be depicted.

Solved with an external DLL -- Estimates aquifer storage and vertical hydraulic
conductivity and specific storage of adjacent confining units with a leaky-aquifer solution
that also provides another estimate of transmissivity (Moench, 1985).

METRIC EXAMPLE --Estimates aquifer hydraulic conductivity of near the well screen
using the Bouwer and Rice (1976) method. The method is based on the Thiem (1906)
analytical solution and was originally designed for the analysis of data from wells in
unconfined aquifers.
Analyzes ordinary slug tests using the Cooper, Bredehoeft, and Papadopulos (1967) method and incorporates the Greene and

Complete workbook of slug-test analyses. Raw time-water level series are entered with
mutiple slugs from a single well. Slug periods are identified and selected, normalized
responses are plotted en masse. Slug test responses are analyzed with KGS solution
which ranges from underdamped to overdamped conditions.

Estimates hydraulic conductivity from slug-test data using the van der Kamp (1976) method. This method was developed for th

Log-transforms data and plots transformed data on a probability scale. Can also esimate
mean and standard deviation of log-transformed data even if some values are censored.

Test uniqueness of lateral anisotropy estimates.

Creates hydrographs from MODOPTIM output for comparing simulated and measured
drawdowns. Weighted-sensitivities for all observations are viewed by parameter in a single
chart. New estimates of drawdowns, parameters, and sensitivities are loaded from a
single button.

workbook.

Workbook has been developed for analyzing time series with an emphasis on estimating drawdowns during aquifer tests by re

Borehole temperature logging on the cheap.

Create a calendar with repeated sign-out labels in all days.

Problems with defining VCON from the inverse thickness of a thin, smoothed surface.
Marked differences in leakance estimates from smoothed thickness and parallel flow
through discrete features exist where confining unit can be absent.

Tracks list of course times, instructors, and notes. Ensures times do not overlap and
easily creates course schedule.

Print or collect static summary of a particular sheet from many workbooks.

Demonstrates accessing sounds from internal WAV files. File also uses
Workbook_Open() subroutine which is in the ThisWorkbook object. The
Workbook_Open() subroutine can be ignored by holding ALT+SHIFT upon opening a file.

Scans directory and subdirectories for a specified file extension, lists paths and files,
creates hyperlink to each file, and formats labels. File descriptions also are pushed into file
comment section.

Averagea subintervals dynamically with INDIRECT references. This approach is best for
repeated analyses. Other statistics such as SUM, MAX, MIN, STandard DEViation also
can be applied to subintervals.

Data sampled at 1 minute and 10 minute intervals are averaged to common intervals.
Intervals of 10m, 20m, 30m, 1hr, 2hr, 4hr, 8hr, 12hr, & 24hr can be tested. MATCH and
OFFSET functions used for testing regression of water level, temperature, discharge, and
specific conductance.

Reduces data in subintervals, such as daily values, with the Subtotal Tool in Excel. This
approach is easier to apply and very useful for a quick analysis that is not likely to be
repeated. Intermediate values can be eliminated by copying the reduced data set into an
ASCII text editor and then copying those value back to a spreadsheet.
Investigates difference between averaging ideal spring discharge and averaging tidally
affected discharge over 21 to 30 hour periods.

Interpolates bi-linearly from a single table. Interpolation values are specified in the
uppermost row and leftmost column of the look-up table.

Computes theoretical earthtide as a function of latitude, longitude, altitude, date, and time.
Adapted from FORTRAN routine -- Harrison, J.C., 1971, New computer programs for the
calculation of Earth tides: National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration/University of
Colorado, Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences, 30 p.

Presents multiple functions for the computation of dual-porosity and leaky aquifer well
functions. Other functions for computing drawdowns directly from discharge, hydraulic
conductivities, specific storages, and time. Adapted from FORTRAN routine DP_LAQ --
Moench, A.F., 1985, TRANSIENT FLOW TO A LARGE-DIAMETER WELL ...,WRR 21(8),
P.1121-1131 and Moench, A.F., 1984, DOUBLE-POROSITY MODELS FOR A FISSURED
GW...., WRR 20(7).

Computes buffer polygon around a given polygon. Will not behave well for large buffers
around a highly irregular polygon. INOUT function determines if a point, XY pair, is inside
of a polygon. Functions for computing area and perimeter of polygons are in workbook.

Convert values to text strings in scientific notation. Also converts text strings in scientific
notation to values.

Rounds positive or negative values to a specified number of significant figures using a

function. Can optionally add another significant figure to values between 1 and 2.

Calculates Theis well function and Theis drawdown using two separate functions.
Algorithm from Bruce Hunt is better, http://www.civil.canterbury.ac.nz/staff/bhunt.asp.

Finds the minimum value in a range while a condition is met in a parallel range using the
function MINIconditional. In this example, a minimum is reported for a single SITEID, not
the entire range. MAXconditional is similar to MINconditional except a maximum is
returned.
All times in Excel are in decimal days but can be formatted to appear in many ways.
Converts various date-time formats to decimal days. The application includes a generic
function for converting odd time formats such as yyyymmdd hhmmss to mm/dd/yy hr:mm
(20011031 093023 to 10/31/01 09:30).

Presents multiple functions for converting UTM to latitude/longitude and latitude/longitude

to UTM. Accepts latitude/longitude as decimal degrees or in USGS units. For example,
390000 is the number three-hundred ninety thousand to most, but 39 degrees, 0 minutes,
and 0 seconds in USGS output.

Loads observation locations, MODFLOW2000 output, and HYDMOD files from a single
button. View hydrographs of simulated and measured water level observations with
simulated results from all layers and stress periods on the same figure. Scatter plots of
measured and simulated water levels depict error pattern for each well. Map shows binary
patterns of residuals above or below a user-specified threshold during user-specified
periods.

Plots bargraphs of pumpage from a row-sequenced dataset containing all pumping wells
using the filter option in the TOOL menu. The example presneted is for Death Valley
Regional Flow System where pumpage is compiled by year and by well into a single
dataset. Also plots well location using a user-defined function rowNOThidden.

The effect of nugget, sill, range, and variogram model on estimation of Z can be
investigated in the file KRIG_Max-40_XYZsamples.xls. Kriging is performed on a small
subset of the Orlando data set. Measured thickness and kriging weights are posted along
with a target location. Changing the target location will cause the weights and resulting
estimate of Z to change.

Constructs isotropic variograms from random XYZ data sets. Fits a theoretical variogram
model to the empirical variogram and fills a matrix of values by kriging or inverse-distance
weighting from the XYZ data.

Overlays map coordinates on a scanned image using XY charts. Functions for computing
perimeter and area of polygons are applied on the QuickArea page.

Example of mapping with Excel. Major features for Carson City are in digitized form and
can be shown by hiding and unhiding data columns that hold XY information. Locator can
be moved to display information about “FIND ME DATA” wells and examine hydrographs
from the “HYDRO-Wells.” The base map only works at the full scale and should be killed if
you zoom. Zooming changes the map scale to that of the blue dashed box with red
handles on the lower, left and upper, right corners.

Selects cross sections through Middle Humboldt Basin by moving cursor across map of
surface geology.
Another mapping application where the model coordinate system differs from UTM
coordinates by a 12 degree rotation.

Converts UTM to latitude/longitude and latitude/longitude to UTM using multiple functions.

Accepts latitude/longitude as decimal degrees or in USGS units. For example, 390000 is
the number three-hundred ninety thousand to most, but 39 degrees, 0 minutes, and 0
seconds in USGS output.

Interpolates from array1 to array 2. Grids can be variably spaced. Grid reference can be
node centered or block centered.

Example of functions in Excel for adding, multiplying, and inverting matrices.

Generates random fields conditioned by assigned properties in adjacent cells.

Takes a 1-D string of numbers and rewrap them into a NX by NY array. Surface of array is
plotted to check results.

Pastes an array on the “ARRAY” page. Specify if the data are integer zones or real
number in a continuous distribution. Update and shade. This is not the most efficient
routine so only use it with this single sheet open.

Summarize precipitation volumes in arrays above a given precipitation rate.

Estimate head loss through a series of pipes, valves, and elbows.

Calculates viscosity of water as functions of temperature and salinity.

Example spreadsheet to digitze data directly from a scanned image inserted into a chart.
Step-by-step instructions are listed for on-screen digitizing of a bar chart. The instructions
start with a blank spreadsheet, add data, include computations, chart data, add figure to
be digitized, and sum all columns.

Adds confidence intervals to a linear regression. Adjust spread graphically by using

column chart of confidence interval as a crude slider.

Interpolates values from irregularly spaced X values to regularly spaced, high-resolution

series so lines and shaded areas can be plotted.

Posts labels or values from a third column next to points plotted as an XY pair. Macro
automates selection of a label and replaces a text string with the address of the cell with
the message to be posted.

Log-transforms data and plots transformed data on a probability scale. Mean and
standard deviation of log-transformed data can be estimated even if some values are
censored.

A summary of keyboard shortcuts by Charles Pearson. Downloaded from http://www.cpearson.com/excel/topic.htm under the

General navigation instructions for toggling between windows. Quick copying of objects,
sheets, and files. Addition of miscellaneous series to XY charts. Keyboard navigation with
END and ARROW keys.

Provides step-by-step instructions for importing external data with the "Import External
Data" command.
Creates pull-down menus with data validation. This ensures label usage is consistent so
exact matches can be made with HLOOKUP, MATCH, and VLOOKUP functions.
VLOOKUP searches for a specified value in the leftmost column of a specified range and
returns a value from the same row and a specified column.

Illustrates differences between treatment of text and numbers. Introduces VALUE function
for converting text to numbers and TEXT function for converting numbers to text.

All times in Excel are in decimal days but can be formatted to appear in many ways.

function for converting odd time formats such as yyyymmdd hhmmss to mm/dd/yy hr:mm
(20011031 093023 to 10/31/01 09:30).

An XY series is made to disappear and reappear by hiding and unhiding a column. Hiding
and unhiding can be done from right-clicks on specified columns or through macros.

Demonstrates the use of clear boxes to support stacked columns without a visible base.

Example of creating a simple series with a formula and replacing the results with values by
Pasting Special.

analysis ToolPak.

Changes plotted time series by using indirect references.

Calculates porosity and moisture content from wet and dry weights of cores. Example of
simple calculations and segregating data and calculation cells.

Illustrates how poor parameter definition can create errors that are greater than
measurement errors. The magnitude of these errors casts doubt on rigorous methods of
weighting observations through analysis of quantifiable, but relatively slight, measurement
errors.

Simulates a physical tube model with a numerical spreadsheet. A series of tubes (tube
model) connected in series can approximate a 1-D ground-water flow system. The Solver
Add-In is used to estimate the 3 parameters that govern steady-state flow from the tube
model.

series at multiple resolutions. Spreadsheet routine identifies maximum water level in
successive periods that vary from 21 to 30 hours in duration and compute frequency of
monthly flooding of marsh surface.

Computes discharge worksheet and plots depth, velocity, and discharge profiles. Error
checks restrict depth input, meter revolutions, and minimum observation time.

Indirect-Slope Conveyance--This spreadsheet program will take channel geometry input,

slope, and 'N' Values and compute the Q using Manning's equation. One can also specify
a Q and cross-section from a discharge measurement and it will compute an 'N' value.
Stores multiple sheets for indirect flood estimation. Summarizes user selected results
from worksheets for each site to a single sheet.

Same entry sheet as in Discharge_Computation_AllPurpose-1Sheet.xls but all information

for a site is contained on a single page. Copies can be created within a workbook and
selected information can be summarized as in the INDIRECT_PeakFlows_Revised.xls
sheet.

Rating Curve--Graphically depicts effects of shape, shifting control, roughness, and slope
on rating curves. Different offsets may be chosen for plotting and the shape and
interception of shifts plotted to a rating.
Fits a piece-wise continuous rating curve to noisy measurements by minimizing
Log(Qsimulated/Qmeasured). Estimates the related Q from speciefied segment stages.
Solver works equally well if Q is specified and stages are wiggled to minimize differences.
