The Raid against Drug Abuse in Bangladesh: Some

Considerations

It’s pathetic that allegedly there has been state patronage in producing destructive
drug arrangement in Bangladesh whereas 37% of the detainees in the jails in
Bangladesh are convicted with drug addiction.

As the supply of this harmful drug arrangement depends on the courtesy,

communication, commitment and stand of the neighbouring countries, it’s
convenient to curb, shorten and check the demand of the drugs through proper,
appropriate and strong ways. It’s important to note that the role of drug control
directorate is essential in controlling, monitoring, regulating and supervising the
drug chain system in our country along with the other authorities concerned.

We obviously know that the expansion of sound, good and nice culture will
enhance the controlling of drug abuse in our country whereas the next budgetary
allocation for the ministry of culture is tk. 509 crore taka what it is tk. 396 crore for
the current budget.

Proper medication should be ensured for the drug-receivers in our country whereas
raising public awareness is one of the most significant issues in controlling drug
abuse in Bangladesh.

Friendly games and sports should be arranged to ensure good and sound health
especially for the young generation which will keep them aloof from drug abuse.
Besides, familial, social, ethical and religious regulation and supervision should be
ensured. At present, there are 70-75 lakh people in our country engaged in drug
addiction whereas tk. 60,000 crore have been wasted in case of drug abuse.

It’s drug addiction which reinforces familial, socio-economic, state-economic and

psycho-physical complexities, complications and problems whereas familial,
socio-economic and socio-political reasons like frustration, unemployment,
familial clash and conflict, social and economic consideration, political unrest,
poverty, lack of ethics etc. are responsible for the deleterious influence of drug
addiction.

It’s imperative to raise social movement against drug addiction whereas the
reformation of current laws and their proper implementation are crucial. The
stakeholders of the drug abuse must be brought under control and provide them
with exemplary punishment.

We need to clearly realize that punishments and penalties aren’t sufficient for drug
abuse, but there should be room for the correction, reform, realization and
rehabilitation for the drug-receivers.

Alongside with the social and economic development, it’s imperative to conduct
comprehensive research why there have been high expansion of drug and it’s
crucial to take proper and effective steps considering the outcome of the research
conducted.

The raid against drug abuse should be conducted with utmost caution and tactics so
that the public support should preserve continuously whereas it’s essential to
supervise that the expedition shouldn’t be questioned, spoiled and stumbled.

It’s important to note that the raid against drug abuse should be made a success as
like as the expedition against terrorism whereas the role of mass media is crucial in
raising awareness among the common masses.

The functioning of sound and good cultural activities like arrangement of club,
library, games and sports etc. should be enhanced whereas social and cultural
movement should be formed from every family, cultural arena and educational
institutions.

All the stakeholders of the society and the state including the businessmen should
come forward to reduce and eliminate drug abuse from the society and the country
whereas civility, courtesy, gentlemen-ship, goodness, honesty etc. should be
greatly encouraged instead of musclemen-ship and misuse of power and money.
