Introduction
Design Brief:
Understand how Day ofand

text
Moon and Sun causes day and night.

Design Brief
Step1: In groups of three brainstorm how you might use the objects on the table to role play day and night. Think! does
the earth rotate? Does the moon rotate? Does the sun rotate? Does the moon orbit the earth? Does the earth orbit the
sun?

Step 2: Using the cardboard and coloured pens draw and label a picture of your observations in step 1. How do you think
night and day happens?

Project specifications
You do not have a lot of time so use your time wisely.
Time to do activities
What you need to role play day/night:
 1 model earth 1. Role play (10 minutes)
 1 model moon
 1 torch 2. Drawing (10minutes)
What you need to draw your observations:
 1 piece of white cardboard
 Textures
When drawing your pictures remember to label each item. For example, moon, sun, earth, orbit, rotation.

Safety: Give yourself lots of room to model the actions without bumping into others. Use the objects on the table in a
safely and appropriately. Torches are not to be shone in eyes or continuously turned on and off. Think of others and
respect each other’s ideas.

Evaluation and Presentation

Your group will be asked to present and explain their drawing to the whole class after the activity has been completed.
You will need to explain:

1. Observations your group made while completing the role play activity using the objects.
2. What your group drew and why.
