Senior squad Update

The senior squad have had a busy September with a number of
matches taking place after a quieter summer period in August. In
addition to matches we’ve had some great training sessions at
West Wickham on the Tuesdays when no games were scheduled.

The unfortunate closure of Alleyn’s pool in August led to

cancellation of Sunday sessions and a source of frustration.
Whilst we were able to run replacement sessions at Trinity, this
was not possible in September so we are very glad to now be
back training at Alleyn’s.

During August and September we have seen a significant growth in

the amount of ladies attending our Tuesday training sessions,
showing promising potential for the ladies winter league. We are
also pleased to announce the return of Richard Collins, who will be
helping out with the ladies squad throughout the Winter season.

However, Beckenham ladies are still looking to recruit new players.

If you know anyone looking to either continue playing water polo or
give a new sport a go please refer them to Dora Roughan who will
happily give details for a FREE, no pressure taster session.

New for this season is the introduction of “Track your Stats”. This
allows all the ladies team to view how many matches they have
played, goals they have scored and majors conceded.

Finally, the Men’s Winter League Fixtures have now been agreed and added to the Senior Section
Calendar (see footer). The league will commence in November running to the end of March 2019; however
before then we have a number of Summer League matches remaining. Good luck to all!!

Alleyn’s Pool has reopened and training is on every Sunday from 7pm to 8:30pm.
2 hour training sessions at West Wickham on 30th October and 13th November ONLY
All members should receive a renewal pack in the next week or so. Please complete the forms and
make the payments as soon as you can. If you have any queries please contact Nick Jackson.

Junior Squad Update
The Junior Squads (Cadet, Academy and Youth) all returned to training
last Sunday following an extended Summer break due to the closure of
Alleyn’s pool. There have been several squad moves since the last of the
summer training sessions so many players are settling into a new squad
whilst we also have trial sessions for new members.

The u13’s went the whole Summer undefeated, winning the league with a
significant points difference and claiming one of these medals ( below ).

On Sunday 23rd, Beckenham played in the inaugural U14 London Region Development
tournament with all seven players from the Academy Squad; the team acquitted
themselves very well. After a slow start (2-1 loss to Penguin) the team continually
improved throughout the tournament with wins over Lewisham (2-1), Croydon (6-0) and
Kingston (4-1).

Next up for the U14 is the Kent Tournament (29th / 30th September ) where Beckenham
will be looking to retain the trophy won last year.

Will Moving to Canada
Although the Summer was a quiet period for many of our members, it proved
completely the opposite for Will Liddie who we not only need to congratulate on
his marriage to his wife Jenny, but also wish him good luck on his move to
Canada. Will has been in contact and assures us he is continuing water polo,
currently participating in training matches for the West Coast Masters Water Polo
in an open air pool. We look forward to tracking and reporting his progress
throughout the season.

Match Reports and Tables

Ladies Team:

For our last games of the season we had a great turn out

all of whom played incredibly well, especially
of 12 girls
Leané and Chanté who earnt their first cap for
Beckenham. We started with a close game against

Sussex, winning 9-8 with a spectacular penultimate goal from Holly. After little rest we were back in the pool to
face Croydon. We put a strong fight with Mia, Holly and Rosie scoring great goals but were beaten by Croydon,
who went
on to win the league. Congratulations to Martha who got awarded MVP.

Men’s
1st Team:
After a summer break the first team were back in action
with two London Premier League games in September.
In the first game we beat Otter 14-12; the game was
relatively
comfortable until a late Beckenham collapse in
the final period. In the second game we lost to a strong
Sutton & Cheam side who look like the champions elect
and are currently

unbeaten with 9 wins from 9. The two matches featured six juniors making their first team debuts
who all more than held their own in the London Premier League: Adam Eastlake, Archie Pearson, Charlie Hill,
Douglas Sheppard, Jude Tinkler-Davies and Tom Cheetham.

Men’s 2nd Team:

With no games in August the second team were able to
get involved in much more regular training sessions with
the first team, thus able to work on man ups and tactics
more effectively. Games resumed in September

with a long journey to Chelmsford away. After conceding a quick succession of goals in the first period we
changed to a much harder press and managed to score some great team goals. Unfortunately, Chelmsford are a
very well drilled team and continued scoring on the counter, eventually Chelmsford winning 18-10. Our next game
was against Crawley at home. We got of to a strong start, being 3-0 up after the first period but Crawly were able
to claw back into the lead, taking advantage of a few mistakes from Beckenham and winning the game 9-5.

U13s Team:
Beckenham u13s won Divison 1 of the London
Summer League finishing the season undefeated after
final weekend wins against Watford and Croydon and

a 8-8 draw with Chelmsford. The u13s were the first team to receive London League medals that will be awarded
to all winners from now on.

Men’s Kent League: P Pts

1 Bexley 8 19

With only one Kent League match in September a win 2 Faversham 9 19

away vs Sevenoaks, and having lost games earlier in 3 Beckenham 8 18
the season we remain mid table, with Bexley closing in
on the title. The League wraps up in October with 4 Shepway A 6 14
games against Faversham, who beat us earlier in the 5 Sevenoaks 9 12
season, and Shepway B. We’ll be aiming to finish
second in the table. 6 Shepway B 6 8
