THE TRUMPET CALL

Our Mission: To love Jesus Christ and to share His Love

Our Vision: To be a Christian community where Christ is transforming lives

East Stroudsburg United Methodist Church Volume IV Issue 39 September 30, 2018

Care Package Ministry Corner

"Attention Church Family!!!

Did you know that the Millennial generation, above EVERY OTHER generation, is the least likely to attend church?

According to a recent study by Pew Research, only “15% of Millennials are ‘Christians’ and only 2 in 10 Americans,
under the age of 30, believe that attending church is important.” A whopping “59% of Millennials raised in a church have dropped out,”
and sadly, about “35% of Millennials now have an anti-church stance.”

Why share these shocking statistics on the front cover of our Church newsletter? Because our future Church is the Millennial generation,
and we MUST actively reach out and share the transforming love of Jesus Christ!!! So how are we going to do that?

For several years now, the parents of our college age students and young military personnel have gathered to organize two College/
Military care efforts: a “goody mailing” in the Fall and a gift card mailing in the Spring. However, the Congregational Care Team, and
many parents of ESUMC’s young adult population, desire to love and reach deeper! As a church, we want to foster a closer connection
with these individuals! And we hope to do that by sharing uplifting scriptures, sending customized care packages, sending letters and e-
mails, and by praying over their shared prayer requests! But to do all this, we’re asking for the entire Congregation’s help!

Here at ESUMC, we are blessed to know deep fellowship and community on a weekly basis, but our young adults are out “in the world,”
constantly surrounded by influences and experiences that will shape their faith. And though Christ is always with them, they are typically
without the physical presence and support of their Church family – and we must bridge the gap!

How can we do that? ESUMC would like to invite EVERYONE to love on these young adults by (1) specifically praying for our college
age and military personnel, (2) donating supplies for our care package mailings (see the list below) and (3) supporting our outreach
efforts by financially contributing to our mailing costs. Again, we encourage the entire church to support this outreach to our ‘College and
Career’ age students and young military adults.

Also, please mark your calendars! Our next meeting will be held on Sun., October 7 th, our donation cut-off will be Sun., October 14th, and
on Sunday, Oct. 21st, we’ll pack and address our mailings. All meetings will take place in the Conference Room at 12pm, immediately
following our Contemporary Worship Service.

Friends, your Christian fellowship, love and support could be a transforming blessing in someone’s life today! Come be a part of Christ’s
transformation in our Church, help us build meaningful relationship, and encourage deeper spiritual growth in our community!

Reflecting Christ’s love and loving on our entire church family,’ ~The Care Package Ministry Team

What are Stephen Minister Trainees Learning?

Our Stephen Minister
trainees are so excited
about the training they are
receiving, and look
forward to new
experiences with each
class.

The Art of Listening and Reflective Listening were the topics of the
last class. The first exercise demonstrated what it felt like to speak
with someone who was totally disengaged and NOT listening when
being spoken to. By stark contrast, the second exercise applied the
skills of listening and reflective listening, which brought about a
natural, non-threatening dialogue between care receiver and care
giver.
