PERALTA Associate Justice, Supreme Court of the Philippines
Justice Diosdado M. Peralta is a native of Laoag City, Ilocos
Norte and is married to Fernanda C. Lampas, a Certified Public Accountant/Lawyer and presently an Associate Justice of the Court of Appeals, with whom they have four children.
He finished his law degree at the University of Santo Tomas
Faculty of Civil Law in 1979. He joined the government service as an Assistant Fiscal of Laoag City from 1987 to 1988 and later on as an Assistant Fiscal of the City of Manila from 1988 to 1994, and was awarded the following: Outstanding Public Prosecutor of Manila for the year 1990 – 1991 by the City of Manila Most Outstanding Public Prosecutor of Manila in 1994 by the Department of Justice and finalist in the Search for Outstanding Public Prosecutor in the Awards for Judicial Excellence. On September 22, 1994, he was appointed as the Presiding Judge of Regional Trial Court, Branch 95 of Quezon City and as such, he received numerous awards and recognitions, two of which were, as a Special Centennial Awardee in the field of Criminal Law given by the Supreme Court of the Philippines and the Integrated Bar of the Philippines with the support of the Foundation for Judicial Excellence during the 100th Year Anniversary Celebration of the Supreme Court on June 6, 2001 and as a Judicial Excellence Awardee as Outstanding Regional Trial Court Judge given by the Foundation for Judicial Excellence on June 14, 2002, the same day he was appointed Associate Justice of the Sandiganbayan. On March 28, 2008 or a day after his birthday, he was appointed as Presiding Justice of the Sandiganbayan, He was likewise awarded the following: one of The Outstanding Thomasian Alumni (TOTAL Awards for Law) on August 2, 2008, the highest award bestowed upon the alumni of the University of Santo Tomas; Award of Distinction for his appointment in the Sandiganbayan and Award in the Foundation for Judicial Excellence on November 23, 2002 and Most Outstanding Alumnus of the Year Award in recognition of his appointment as Presiding Justice of the Sandiganbayan in 2008 by the University of Sto. Tomas Law Alumni Foundation, Inc.; Sectoral Ulirang Ama Awardee on Law and Judiciary given by the Ulirang Ama Foundation on June 18, 2006; and Outstanding Citizen in the Field of Law and Government Service on February 7, 2004 by the City of Laoag. He was also able to attend various conferences and studies abroad such as the following: Senior Seminar on Financial Underpinnings of Terrorism sponsored by the U.S. State Department in Washington, D.C., U.S.A. in 2001; PHILJA Study Tour to Canada with the National Judicial Institute, a Juris Canada project in 2005; and Program of Instruction for Lawyers, Harvard Law School, Cambridge, Boston, Massachusetts in 2008.
He was appointed as Associate Justice of the Supreme Court on January 13,
2009.
He is a Bar Reviewer, professor, lecturer and resource person in Criminal Law
and Criminal Procedure at the U. P. Law Center, Ateneo de Manila University, UST, San Beda College, San Sebastian and other notable law schools and a regular lecturer in Substantive and Procedural Law of the Mandatory Continuing Legal Education program for lawyers both here and abroad. He is also a member of the Corps of Professors, Department of Criminal Law, and lecturer of the Philippine Judicial Academy of the Supreme Court where members of the judiciary are trained and oriented and presently, he is a chairperson and member of various committees in the Supreme Court.
