Lesson idea implementation: The teacher will introduce the lesson by asking students to share what their
favorite kind of books to read are. What do they consist of? Do they have a lot of pictures, or no pictures at
all? The teacher will then explain to the students that they are going to read two books that contain
photographs, and as the teacher reads, students will be encouraged to raise their hands to guess what the
book is about based on the pictures and words surrounding the pictures. One of the books will be a book
created by the teacher on Microsoft PowerPoint. This will allow students to listen to the book for students
who struggle with their reading skills.
After reading/listening to the books as a whole class, the students will be asked to write three sentences
about each book. They will use the information gained in the pictures and text of each book to write their
sentences.

Reflective Practice: By completing this lesson, it will help my students strengthen their abilities to use context
clues when reading. The books that we read as a class had pictures and text, but it was the job of the students
to use the pictures and text to figure out what each book was about. To further this lesson, if the technology is
available, I would have my students create a book of their own. They would be instructed to use more pictures
than text to demonstrate the when, where, and why of their books.
