4.

3 Software/Firmware Upgrade Process

1. How to Download PW980 Firmware

A. Hardware requirement
a. USB cable

B. Software requirement
a. Download tool : FlashUpgrader ( Pixelworks ImageProcessor SDK FlashUpgrader).
b. Driver : ubootusb( in the file named “Windows-Side usb driver”).
c. Download file : root.cramfs, rw.jffs2, uImage and pwc980_32M_PFlash_all.

C. USB Driver install procedure (For the first use)


1. Connect PC with projector by USB cable.
2. If the device can’t be identified, follow the steps to setup the driver:
(1) Find the target device in device manager.

(2) Search the driver for PW980.

(3) Select and install the driver (ubootusb.sys).

(4) Finished.

D. Download Procedure

(1) Hardware required


1. USB cable(mini B type)
2. Personal computer or laptop computer

(2) Software required


1. Download tool : FlashUpgrader ( Pixelworks ImageProcessor SDK FlashUpgrader).
2. Download file package (Note : save the latest files in the same folder as Download tool) :
pwc980_32M_PFlash_all
u-boot.bin
uImage
root.cramfs
rw.jffs2

(3) Download procedure


<Notice: Before download FW, make sure the adjusted values are read and kept by Service Tool.>

1. Connect PC with projector by USB cable.

2. Hold “Right” key and then plug in AC power cord until Power LED lit red to enter download
mode

3. Open the download tool,“ FlashUpgrader”.

4. Press “Choose” button to select the “pwc980_32M_PFlash_all.inf” and check the items (4~6) as
below figure. Press “Flash” to start download.

5. Showing the “programming complete” message, then download procedure is over.

6. Reboot projector

<Notice: After download FW, make sure the adjusted values are written to projector by Service Tool.>

2. How to Download PA136 Firmware

A. Hardware requirement
a. RS232 cable

B. Software requirement
a. Download tool : FlashUpgrader ( Pixelworks ImageProcessor SDK FlashUpgrader).
b. Download file : FlashBoot.hex, Appcode.hex, AllFlasher.hex.

C. Download Procedure
<Notice: Before download FW, make sure the adjusted values are read and kept by Service Tool.>

a. Connect PC with projector by RS232 cable(P/N = 5K.0R501.501).


b. Turn on projector
c. Create a connection between computer and projector by HyperTerminal (Setting same as 4.6
RS-232 connection)
d. Enter “<CR>*qisda_fac# <CR>“,that <CR> means “carriage return” character
e. Close HyperTerminal
f. Open the download tool,“ FlashUpgrader”.

g. Press “Choose” button to choice the “ Flash_All.inf ” .


h. Select “ Chip “ button to choice “ PA136 “.
i. Selec COM Port setting as following  COM1 and Baud Rate = 15200 .

j. Used W1500 Remote controller, press following key button step by step.
j.1 Press Remote controller function key “ Brightness”
j.2 Press Remote controller function key “ color”
j.3 Press FlashUpgrader tool’s “ Flash button “
j.4 Press Remote controller function key “ Tint “
k. Showing the “programming complete” message, the download procedure is over.
l. Reboot projector

3. How to download DLP Firmware

A. DLP Composer lite install procedure


(1) Installation
1. Double click the Setup file for DLP Composer Lite (use 11.0 or above version) to start to install
program.
2. When the Installation Wizard appears, click “Next”.

3. Select to accept the License Agreement, then, click “Next”

4. Click “Next” in the following steps to continue installation process.

Note:
The default installation directory is:
C:\Program Files\DLP Composer Lite 11.0.1\
If you want to install to a different directory (perhaps
alongside a prior release of DLP Composer™ Lite), click the
"Browse" button on the "Select Features" page.

5. When finishing installation, click “Finish”, and then restart your computer to complete the installation
process.

(2) Setting for your first use

 Library setting:
Save the “FlashDeviceParameters.txt” into the DLP Composer Lite11.0 installed folder.
You can get the txt file from the installation file “DDP442X Download_Tool_Ver1.0.rar” or later
version.

 USB Driver Installation:

1. After DLP Composer™ Lite 11.0 is installed, it can auto detect your USB driver.

2. If PC still cannot recognize the USB device, choose the "Install DLP Device Drivers" icon under "DLP
Composer™ Lite" in your Start menu.

3. Select “Jungo WinDriver” and press “Install”.

4. Follow the message show in message, and complete the installation when you see the “Completing the
Device Driver Installation Wizard” message.

B. Download Procedure

 How to download (By USB)

Hardware required
1. Standard USB Download cable(mini B type)
2. Personal computer or laptop computer

Software required
1. DLP Composer Lite program
2. New version FW

Download procedure
<Notice: Before download FW, make sure the adjusted values are read and kept by Service Tool.>

1. Turn on the projector.


2. Enter the factory mode block 2 and turn off the function Error check Detects

3. Turn on the function DLP Download

4. Connect USB cable to PC and projector
5. Execute DLP Composer Lite 11.0 program

6. To select the USB communications interface, choose "Preferences" from the "Edit" menu, click
the "Communications" page and choose "USB".
7. Check the USB Device Identification. Vendor should be 0x451. Product should be 0x2000.

8. Click on “Flash Loader” and browse the image file (new version firmware)

9. Select Complete Image Download, and make sure to check “Skip Boot loader area (32KB)”

10. Press “Reset Bus” and check the status which should show “Bus Reset”

11. Press “Start Download” to begin update new firmware.

12. Press “Yes” to continue.

13. Wait till Download complete.

14. When download complete, LED signal on projector will show standby status.
Please re-turn on the projector.

Tool.>

4. How to write in EDID for Wireless source


Step1. Enter the factory Mode block 1

Step2.Turn off the EDID write protect function

Step3. Chose the Wireless HDMI source

Step4. Plug in the HDMI wire to HDMI 2 connector and start to write in EDID

Note. When write in EDID, wireless HDMI source is used by HDMI 2 connector, on any other source,
the HDMI2 connector is used by HDMI2 source.
