RE: New York State Attorney General Survey – Executive Summary
Date: October 6, 2018

McLaughlin & Associates recently completed a statewide survey for Keith Wofford for New York State Attorney
General. The survey of likely general election voters in New York State show the race to be wide open.

Methodology:

This survey of political attitudes was conducted among 600 likely general election voters in New York State
between September 27th and September 30th, 2018. Interview selection was random within predetermined
election units. Sixty-seven percent (67%) were conducted on landlines and 33% on Cellphones. These samples
were then combined and structured to correlate with actual voter turnout in a statewide election. All interviews
were conducted by professional interviewers. The accuracy of the sample of 600 likely general election voters is
within +/- 4.0% at a 95% confidence interval.

Survey Highlights:

While Democrats hold a registration advantage in New York State, and even though the Republican brand is
negative, statewide Democrats are not in a strong position.

- Fifty-six percent of the voters (56%) disapprove of the job Donald Trump is doing, with 41% saying they
approve.

- Under Governor Andrew Cuomo, the Democrat brand in New York State is not strong. Under Democrat
Andrew Cuomo, the majority of voters, 55%, say New York State is heading down the wrong track, while
36% say it is heading in the right direction.

- Governor Cuomo maintains a soft 1:1 job rating, with 47% approve to 49% disapprove. The intensity lies
on Cuomo’s negatives, as 29% only “somewhat approve” on Cuomo’s job performance, while 33%
“strongly disapprove”.

With just weeks to go, the election for New York State Attorney General is wide open. At present, neither
Letitia James nor Keith Wofford are well known to the electorate, and Wofford has room to grow with his base
Republican voters and independents.

- Letitia James receives a 23% favorable rating, 8% unfavorable, 24% no opinion, and 45% have never
heard of her.

- Keith Wofford receives a 7% favorable, 3% unfavorable., 25% no opinion and 65% have never heard of
Wofford.

- On the 3-way head-to-head ballot, Wofford receives 33%, James 44%, Sussman 4%, and 20% are
undecided.

- By a 2:1 margin, voters prefer Keith Wofford’s bio over Letitia James’ bio. While 61% would prefer to
vote for a “political outsider”, just 29% would prefer to vote for a candidate with a “career” in
government.
Keith Wofford is the independent Attorney General the voters in New York want. Wofford has no allegiance to
the Governor or any special interests. Further, Wofford has the agenda that strongly resonates with New
Yorkers. The informed ballot swings dramatically in favor of Republican Keith Wofford after the voters learn of
Letitia James’ failed record and her poor ethical record.
- After learning facts about both candidates, Wofford leads the informed ballot by nearly a 2:1,
58% to 32%, with 10% undecided.

- The messages that worked best against Letitia James dealt with corruption, failing to protect the
taxpayers and abusing public funds.
- The plurality of voters, 45%, say corruption is the most important issue for the Attorney General
to deal with.

Media Market

Letitia James had failed to pay her own property taxes on a property she owns, and she failed to disclose the fact that she
owns another property to the New York City Conflict of Interest Board. 9/70

Letitia James claims to be the peoples lawyer but failed to stand up to the MTA to protect riders from delays and fare
10/68
hikes. She also failed to protect public housing residents from lead poising and poor housing conditions.

Letitia James abused New York City’s taxpayer funded campaign finance system by taking $750,000 in money she didn’t
need in an election where she got 75 percent of the vote. James spent over $500,000 on the very last day, instead of 8/65
returning the money to taxpayers.

Letitia James supports the creation of a state campaign finance system modeled after New York City’s that would spend
13/62
over $200 million dollars in taxpayers’ money on political campaigns.

Even in her job as Public Advocate, whose sole role is to defend citizens against abuse from the government, Letitia James
refused to criticize Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance for his failure to prosecute Harvey Weinstein on sexual assault 11/61
charges, despite the New York Police Department’s recommendation to pursue charges.

Conclusion:

With a well-funded campaign, a strong and resonating message, Keith Wofford is very well positioned to grow
his ballot ratings and defeat Letitia James in November. Wofford is uniquely positioned to be a successful
Republican in New York in 2018.
