ECONOMIC SANCTIONS:
TRENDS AND DEVELOPMENTS
This program will discuss important recent developments in sanctions, especially issues
about sanctions against Iran, Russia, North Korea, Venezuela, and Cuba. Less visible in
the headlines, but very important, there are also important developments in the
enforcement of sanctions – for example, more reliance on criminal prosecution and more
extraterritorial enforcement. The EU and other JCPOA participants have challenged U.S.
unilateral sanctions against Iran. The role of banks in sanctions compliance and related
international enforcement programs will be discussed.
