WATER TREATMENT PLANT

Treatment for drinking water production involves the removal of contaminants from raw
water to produce water that is pure enough for human consumption without any short
term or long term risk of any adverse health effect. Substances that are removed during
the process of drinking water treatment include suspended
solids, bacteria, algae, viruses, fungi, and minerals such as iron and manganese.
The processes involved in removing the contaminants include physical processes such
as settling and filtration, chemical processes such as disinfection and coagulation and
biological processes such as slow sand filtration.

SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANT

Sewage treatment is the process of removing contaminants from municipal wastewater,

containing mainly household sewage plus some industrial wastewater. Physical,
chemical, and biological processes are used to remove contaminants and produce treated
wastewater (or treated effluent) that is safe enough for release to the environment. A by-
product of sewage treatment is a semi-solid waste or slurry, called sewage sludge. The
sludge has to undergo further treatment before being suitable for disposal or application
to land.

VERMICULTURE CENTER

Vermiculture means artificial rearing or cultivation of worms (Earthworms) and the

technology is the scientific process of using them for the betterment of human beings.
Vermicompost is the excreta of earthworm, which is rich in humus. Earthworms eat cow
dung or farm yard manure along with other farm wastes and pass it through their body
and in the process convert it into vermicompost. The municipal wastes; non-toxic solid
and liquid waste of the industries and household garbage’s can also be converted into
vermicompost in the same manner. Earthworms not only convert garbage into valuable
manure but keep the environment healthy. Conversion of garbage by earthworms into
compost and the multiplication of earthworms are simple process and can be easily
handled by the farmers.

Waste Management In Fish and Vegetable Market

Most fish and vegetable markets generate huge quantities of organic waste that serve as
the medium in which bacteria can grow. specially true for fish markets which generates
waste that's primarily animal matter like fins, scales, blood, flesh, etc. Several species of
pathogenic bacteria like Salmonella, Pseudomonas, Clostridium, Proteus, etc can grow on
these media. Some of the gases that are liberated due to decomposition by these micro-
organisms are Methane, Ammonia, Carbon-dioxide, Hydrogen, all of whish pollute the
air and give out stench smell. People can get infected if somehow they come in contact
with these micro-organisms. Many of them are fatal.
These wastes can also facilitate the growth of fungi and sustain viruses for long periods.
The areas are regularly visited by street animals like dogs, cats, and even birds, crows and
others. When these animals move in the yards or compunds of the nearby houses, they
can spread infection easily. Birds can easily deposit pieces of waste fro the garbage that
often go unnoticed. These can prove to be serious health hazards.
The disposal of waste should involve co-operation among all concerned parties lie
vendors, buyers and municipalities. There should be a specific tank for waste disposal in
the market from where the disposed wastes are to be collected and moved away by
municipality people.
These wastes are then processed and used for compost, the liquid wastes are treated using
trickling filters.
The local people should also ensure that they act as responsible citizens and refrain from
littering the surroundings.
