From Your Pastor,
I’m wearing my philosophical/political hat today
so be patient.
Many of you have heard of Utopia. It is an imag-
ined place in which everything is perfect. It isn’t a new
concept. In 1516 Sir Thomas Moore wrote of it.
Utopia is a noble and worthy dream. However, on
earth, Utopia will always be an unattainable myth. Why?
Because of our methods to achieve it.
Some believe Utopia is possible through govern-
ment and politics. Communism and fascism promised this.
They attempted to cleanse the world by staining it with
blood. More have been killed by their own government
purging than wars with enemies. Even democracies are not
immune. Call it a “Make America Great” society, a new
world order or a new covenant but democracy at its best
fails to be Utopia. Capitalism without values can be as
ruthless as any cruel dictator. If you educate the people
without teaching values, all you produce are clever devils.
Why is Utopia on earth an impossible dream? The
fault lies within the human heart. Every generation passes
to the next a heart that the Bible describes as “desperately
wicked.” Until the heart is changed, evil resurfaces in eve-
ry generation. Somehow we have deluded ourselves into
thinking we may be weak but not wicked, sick but not sin-
ful, victims but never villains. We blame crime on sick-
ness of society or a sickness of the mind. But never a sin
in our hearts.
So is there any hope? Absolutely! There is a civi-
lizing power of the Judeo-Christian heritage. Yes, Chris-
tians have had inexcusable and shameful moments, (the
Crusades, Inquisitions, slavery), but through Christ posi-
tive has been accomplished. We have fought diseases,
poverty, oppression. We have ended slave trade, built hos-
pitals, orphanages and universities. A society of citizens
guided by the compassion and teachings of Christ is not
Utopia, but it is far better than any government that is
ruled by a tyrant or self-serving tyrants.
Christ alone can change a sinful heart. Christ
changes governments one heart at a time. That is why
Christians vote and also share our faith personally. Pro-
gress is not always discovering something new. Progress
in America means re-discovering the eternal truths of God.
Religious extremism is a definite threat. But the greatest
threat to our nation is the silence and idleness of sincere
followers of Jesus Christ. We must and will continue to be
the voice and hands of Christ. Christianity can flourish
under any circumstance. A nation guided by Judeo-
Christian values provides the best climate for a quality
life.
By the way. Utopia literally means “No place.”
Of course we know it is a place. We call it Heaven. I will
see you there one day!

Please prayerfully consider joining our Preschool and
Children’s Ministry through July 2019 to teach, serve, and
love on our children on Sundays. We are still in need of
loving adults (males too) during Preschool Worship once a
month at the 10:30am service. Current needs are:
1st Sunday 2 Bedbabies - 2 volunteers
3rd Sunday Toddlers - 2 volunteers
4th Sunday Bed Babies - 1 volunteer
5th Sunday 2 year olds - 1 volunteer
Sunday Morning Teacher/Coordinator Meetings
Breakfast @ 8 AM, Room 313. This is a vital Team Meeting
that builds unity and provides insight into our growth. Our
upcoming Meetings: November 11th & December 2nd
Basketball - K– 3rd season begins January and 4th - 6th
grade season begins Dec. 8th. Practices Sundays @ 4 pm
and Wednesdays @ 5:30 pm on the Eastmont basketball
court beginning November 7th

TIMEOUT MESSAGE SERIES
In November we will turn our attention to a new 2-part
series: "THANKFUL: The Mark of True Followship." Join
us Nov. 7 and 14 at 6:15 p.m.
YOUTH ON MISSION
The next two Sundays will be memorable. Nov. 11 we
will study (and live out) the plight of refugee fami-
lies. Then Nov. 18 we will have the opportunity to serve
local refugee families. Join us Sundays at 5:00 for YOM.
SUMMER MISSION TRIP REVEAL
Wednesday, November 14, at TimeOut we will officially
unveil our destination for Summer Mission Trip 2019.

The Music & Worship Ministries is excited to welcome
Cliff Huckabee. Cliff has accepted the position of Assis-
tant Worship Pastor. He will bring his expertise and
service to our A/V ministry, Kidz Choirs and then some!
We are so glad to have Cliff, Beth, Bethany and Lucas
back in the Eastmont family!
STUDENT CHOIR
The Student Choir rehearses every Sunday at 4PM in the
choir suite. We are investing in the future of Eastmont
in worship and service to our Lord through music. Come
be a part and be in prayer for our next generation of
worship leaders!
KIDZ CHOIR
Join us each Sunday night from 4:45-6:15 for fun and
worship as we work to present PARABLELOOZA!
1st-6th Grade drop off at the basketball court, pick up in
the choir suite.

Forever Young Choir will rehearse November 13 and 27.
CHRISTMAS PRESENTATION
Eastmont’s Christmas Worship Service will be December
16 and the music ministries have already begun prepar-

The rock garden is meant to encourage family and
friends who have lost a loved one. If you would like to

Ministry Assistant Position Available
Applications are being accepted for the position of
Ministry Assistant to the pastor and assistant pastor.
Must be proficient in computer skills and have strong
organizational and interpersonal skills. Resumes should
