THE CHILD
Last month, a three-year old boy
was killed by a mentally-disturbed
man who slit the tot’s throat and
punctured his head with a knife.
It was a disturbing curtain raiser

the parents of the boy was heart-
rending.
We can’t think of the apt words
to describe losing someone,
especially that death claimed a
child.
In such a case, our collective
anger is equally understandable.
What if it happens to one’s own?
We see here at least two pressing
concerns: the protection of
children, and the prevailing mental
health of our population, which we
will discuss in another editorial.
Certainly, having a yearly
celebration to mark children’s
month is a first step. Yet, we can’t
stop at just what usually turns out
as compliance activities. Some
government offices mark it, for

ment officials and employees
from endorsing or promot-
ing candidates by posting on
Facebook, wearing T-shirts
or pins mentioning the name
of the candidate, and engag-
ing in other partisan activities
during the election season.
“We encourage the public
to be vigilant against these
prohibited acts and report to
us, or to any authority con-
cerned, if there’s government
employee who violated the
