INRODUCTION

The Tours and Travel Management System is a web based application. The main purpose of
“Tours and travels management system” is to provide a convenient way for a customer to
book hotels, flight, train and bus for tour purposes. The objective of this project is to develop
a system that automates the processes and activities of a travel agency. In this project, We
will make an easier task of searching places and for booking train, flight or bus. . In the
present system a customer has to approach various agencies to find details of places and to
book tickets. This often requires a lot of time and effort. We provide approach skills to
critically examine how a tourist visits and its ability to operate in an appropriate way when
dealing with the consequences of tourism, locally, regionally, and nationally including visitor
security and ecological influences. It is tedious for a customer to plan a particular journey and
have it executed properly. The project ‘Tours and Travels Management System’ is developed
to replace the currently existing system, which helps in keeping records of the customer
details of destination as well as payment received.
OBJECTIVES

The main objective of the website is to inform customers about the most visited tourist’s
spots and help them to find best tourist places and provide them best conveyance to reach
their destination.

The main objective can be listed as follows:

1. Provide a high standard of services suitable for individuals seeking relaxing,

comfortable and memorable experiences in the hospitality and tourism industry.
2. Provide the tourist market with the quality personal required by the tourism industry.
3. Produce expeditions and memories that would satisfy each and every single of the
customers.
4. Evaluate current cultural, economic, and social issues affecting the tourism and travel
industry.
5. Participate in both local and regional community service by providing general
lectures, consultation, and training programs.
3. RECOGNITION OF NEEDS

The basis for a website of a tour & travels and holidays packages are recognition of need for
improving an information system or a procedure. The need leads to a preliminary survey or
an initial investigation to determine whether an alternative system can solve the problem .it
entails looking into the duplication of efforts, bottle necks, inefficient existing procedures , or
whether parts of the existing system would be sufficient for computerisation.

If the problem is serious, management may want to have an analyst look at it. Problems
related to refund process may need special attention, sometimes if there are more than two
parties involved in the transfer of payments, there are chances that problem can take place so
at that time it is important to have an analyst to take care.

The success of a system largely depends on how accurately a problem is defined, thoroughly
investigated, and properly carried out through the choice of solution. User need identification
and analysis are concerned with what the user needs are rather than what the customer wants.
Not until the problem has been identified, defined and evaluated, should the analysts think
about the solutions and whether the problem is worth solving.

 Availability of information on the site saves time.

 Information is easy to access. There is convenience in information retrieval.

 The person can access into information 24*7 i.e. information is available anytime.

 Various alternative solutions are provided and mentioned in the website.

 Contact customer services details are also mentioned

4. FEASIBILITY STUDY

A feasibility study is a test of a system proposal according to its workability. Impact on the
organisation, ability to meet user needs, and effective use of resources. it focuses on three
major questions:

1. What are the user’s demonstrable needs and how does the system meets them?

2. What are the resources available for given ecommerce system? Is the problem worth
solving?

3. What are the likely impacts of the ecommerce system on the organisation? how well
does it fit within the organisation’s master MIS plan.

Each of these questions must be answered careful. They resolve around investigation and
evaluation of the problem, identification and description of the systems, specification of
performance and the cost of each system, and final selection of the best system.

The objective of a feasibility study is to solve a problem, but to acquire a sense of its scope.
During the study, the problem definition is crystallised and aspects of the problem to be
included in the system are determined. Consequently, costs and benefits are estimated with
greater accuracy at this stage.

A need to change the existing system was identified due to certain flaws and proposed layout
was suggested and worked upon to automate the needs of the users.

The three major aspects of conducting the feasibility study were as follows:

4.1 OPERATIONAL FEASIBILTY:

This test of feasibility was used to determine whether the proposed system would work when
it developed and installed. The important issues that were dealt with during this phase were:

1) As the existing system had various drawbacks , a study was conducted to identify the
need for a change , and to convince the existing users of the system about its future
implementation.
2) It was ensured that the change in the existing system would be acceptable to the
existing users of the system.
4.2 TECHNICAL FEASIBILTY

There is a number of technical issues that were raised during the feasibility stage of
investigation.

The important issues that were dealt with during this phase were:-

1) Since the existing system was manual, therefore, a study was conducted to determine
whether the necessary technology existed in order to develop and implement the new
system. And hence it was determined that the new system would be developed.

2) It was ensured that would be able to manipulate, handle and store the data efficiently.

3) It was also ensured that the new system could be upgraded easily and changes could
be incorporated in it easily (if required). The technical guaranties of accuracy,
reliability , ease of access and data security were also ensured.

4.3 ECONOMIC FEASIBILTY

A system that can be developed technically and that will be used if installed must still be
profitable for the organisation. The various financial and economic issues were raised during
the preliminary investigation. These issues were not of our concern in major and were studied
by the management. Since the system was developed for internal use of the organisation.

It was ensured that after this system has been developed, it would save considerable time and
efforts of the concerned department.

The result of the feasibility study is a formal proposal. This is simply a report – a formal
document detailing the nature and scope of the proposed solution. The proposal summarises
what is known and what is going to be done. It consists of the following:

1. Statement of the problem: a carefully worded statement of the problem that lied to
analysis.

2. Summary of findings and recommendation: a list of the major findings and

recommendations of the study. It is ideal for the user who requires quick assess to the
results of the analysis of the system under study. Conclusions are stated, followed by
a list of the recommendations and a justification for them.

3. Details of finding : an outline of the methods and procedure undertaken by the

existing system , followed by the coverage of the objectives and procedures of the
systems , included the decision of the output reports, file structure , and costs and
benefits of the system.
4. Recommendations and conclusions : specific recommendations regarding the system
, including personnel assignments, Costs , project schedules and target dates.

After the proposal is reviewed by management , it becomes a formal agreement that paves the
way for actual design and implementation. This is a crucial decision point in the lifecycle .
many projects die here , whereas the more the promising ones continue through
implementation. Changes the proposal are made in writing, depending on the complexity ,
size , and the cost of the project . it is simply common sense to verify changes before
comminting the project is design.
5 .HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE REQUIREMENT
The software requires IBM compatible machines with the following recommended
specification.

PROCESSOR: Pentlum III/ AMD atlon or higher

RAM : 128 MB or higher

5.3 SOFTWARE DESCRIPTION

5.3.1 Microsoft windows

Microsoft windows is a graphical user interface. It uses graphics to organise the

user’workplace. Users can select and execute programs with the help of a mouse. The
program that runs from within windows also has a graphical user interface for example: MS
excel, MS word etc.

Windows provides a broad range of graphical functions for drawing lines and geometric
shapes and changing colour. It also provides library functions for accessing screen, printers,
keyboards, mouse and functions for working with various other types of objects like menus,
bitmaps, icons etc. these libraries are a part of operating system.
The system defined functions that an application can call are provided by an interface known
as the Application Programming Interface or API it is the interface between an application
and windows environment.

Every windows environment has its unique API. The API that supports windows
95,98,2000,XP are 32 bits API that is, all the functions supported by the API can work with
32 bits of information.

The three primary files are:

GDI.1DLL - it is a windows 32 bit graphics driver interface API library and is a core
windows component .it contains functions for drawing graphics, accessing hardware,
displaying output etc.

USER32.DLL- it is a windows user library used to provide support for user interface
routines. It contains functions that deal with the user interface, like creating and managing
windows.

KERNEL32.DLL- it provides windows 32 bit API support and is the core windows
component. It contains functions, which deal with critical system resourcesm like functions
for allocating memory, accessing files etc.

Windows applications are, very often large in size, larger than the amount of physical
memory installed in the system. To get around this problem , windows only loads those
modules of an application , which are needed. Using this technique, windows also greatly
reduces memory consumption.

5.3.2 NOTEPAD

Notepad is a simple text editor for Microsoft Windows and a basic text-editing program
which enables computer users to create documents. It was first released as a mouse-
based MS-DOS program in 1983, and has been included in all versions of Microsoft
Windows since Windows 1.0 in 1985.

Notepad is a common text-only (plain text) editor. The resulting files—typically saved with
the .txt extension—have no format tags or styles, making the program suitable for editing
system files to use in a DOS environment and, occasionally, source code for
later compilation or execution, usually through a command prompt. It is also useful for its
negligible use of system resources; making for quick load time and processing time,
especially on under-powered hardware. Notepad supports both left-to-right and right-to-left
based languages. Historically, Notepad did not treat newlines in Unix- or classic Mac OS-
style text files correctly. However, on 8th May 2018, Microsoft announced that they had
fixed this issue. Notepad offers only the most basic text manipulation functions, such as
finding text. Only newer versions of Windows include an updated version of Notepad with a
search and replace function. However, it has much less functionality in comparison to full-
scale editors.

COMPATIBILITY WITH WEB STANDARDS

The notepad web authoring tool is compatible with every single standard of internet
presentation medium yet devised. As a bonus, notepad is also compatible with all future
developments in HTML and any other web based presentation medium. This functionality is
included as standard, and at no extra cost.

SMALL MEMORY FOOTPRINTNotepad was designed to have a very small application

footprint , taking up as a little space as possible in your computer’s memory, and a minimum
of disk space. In fact, when you install notepad, you install notepad, you will not even notice
the disk space decrease.

CLEAR PRESENTATION OF HTML

Notepad gives you clear , easy to read and full HTML. There is no code hidden, and you have
control over all parts of the HTML code.

Javascript is also fully supported by notepad. All parts of the javascript are fully available
through notepad, without the need of complex tools. All code written in notepad is as you
want it, with no other standards or coding methods imposed on you. If you don’t want lots of
tags defining every possible detail of the image that you have inserted, then you don’t have to
enter it. No more lines and lines of copyright and META tags full of information that you
don’t want to be sending to people . streamline your code with notepad.

5.3.3 INTERNET EXPLORER

Windows internet explorer

Internet Explorer (formerly Microsoft Internet Explorer and Windows Internet

Explorer, commonly abbreviated IE or MSIE) is a series of graphical web
browsers developed by Microsoft and included in the Microsoft Windows line of operating
systems, starting in 1995. It was first released as part of the add-on package Plus! for
Windows 95 that year. Later versions were available as free downloads, or in service packs,
and included in the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) service releases of Windows 95
and later versions of Windows. The browser is discontinued, but still maintained.

Internet Explorer was one of the most widely used web browsers, attaining a peak of about
95% usage share by 2003.This came after Microsoft used bundling to win the first browser
war against Netscape, which was the dominant browser in the 1990s. Its usage share has
since declined with the launch of Firefox (2004) and Google Chrome (2008), and with the
growing popularity of operating systems such as Android and iOS that do not run Internet
Explorer. Estimates for Internet Explorer's market share are about 2.88% across all
platformsor by StatCounter's numbers ranked 6th, while on desktop, the only platform it's
ever had significant share (i.e. excluding mobile and Xbox) it's ranked 3rd at 6.01%,[6] just
after Firefox (others place IE 2nd with 9.48% just ahead of), as of October 2018 (browser
market share is notoriously difficult to calculate). Microsoft spent over US$100 million per
year on Internet Explorer in the late 1990s, with over 1,000 people involved in the project by
1999.

Versions of Internet Explorer for other operating systems have also been produced, including
an Xbox 360 version called Internet Explorer for Xbox and for platforms Microsoft no longer
supports: Internet Explorer for Mac and Internet Explorer for UNIX (Solaris and HP-UX),
and an embedded OEM version called Pocket Internet Explorer, later rebranded Internet
Explorer Mobile made for Windows Phone, Windows CE, and previously, based on Internet
Explorer 7 for Windows Mobile.

On March 17, 2015, Microsoft announced that Microsoft Edge would replace Internet
Explorer as the default browser on its Windows 10devices. This effectively makes Internet
Explorer 11 the last release (however IE 10 and 9 also receive security updates as of
2018).Internet Explorer, however, remains on Windows 10 primarily for enterprise
purposes. Since January 12, 2016, only Internet Explorer 11 has been supported. Support
varies based on the operating system's technical capabilities and its support lifecycle.

The browser has been scrutinized throughout its development for use of third-party
technology (such as the source code of Spyglass Mosaic, used without royalty in early
versions) and security and privacy vulnerabilities, and the United States and the European
Union have alleged that integration of Internet Explorer with Windows has been to the
detriment of fair browser competition.

Features

Internet Explorer has been designed to view a broad range of web pages and provide certain
features within the operating system, including Microsoft Update. During the heyday of
the browser wars, Internet Explorer superseded Netscape only when it caught up
technologically to support the progressive features of the time.

ARCHITECTURE
Internet Explorer uses a componentized architecture built on the Component Object
Model (COM) technology. It consists of several major components, each of which is
contained in a separate Dynamic-link library (DLL) and exposes a set of COM programming
interfaces hosted by the Internet Explorer main executable, iexplore.exe:

 WinInet.dll is the protocol handler for HTTP, HTTPS and FTP. It handles all network
communication over these protocols.
 URLMon.dll is responsible for MIME-type handling and download of web content, and
provides a thread-safe wrapper around WinInet.dll and other protocol implementations.
 MSHTML.dll houses the Trident rendering engine introduced in Internet Explorer 4,
which is responsible for displaying the pages on-screen and handling the Document
Object Model of the web pages. MSHTML.dll parses the HTML/CSS file and creates the
internal DOM tree representation of it. It also exposes a set of APIs for runtime
inspection and modification of the DOM tree. The DOM tree is further processed by a
layout engine which then renders the internal representation on screen.
 IEFrame.dll contains the user interface and window of IE in Internet Explorer 7 and
above.
 ShDocVw.dll provides the navigation, local caching and history functionalities for the
browser.
 BrowseUI.dll is responsible for rendering the browser user interface such as menus and
toolbars.

Internet Explorer does not include any native scripting functionality.

Rather, MSHTML.dll exposes an API that permits a programmer to develop a scripting
environment to be plugged-in and to access the DOM tree. Internet Explorer 8 includes the
bindings for the Active Scripting engine, which is a part of Microsoft Windows and allows
any language implemented as an Active Scripting module to be used for client-side scripting.
By default, only the JScript and VBScript modules are provided; third party implementations
like ScreamingMonkey (for ECMAScript 4 support) can also be used. Microsoft also makes
available the Microsoft Silverlight runtime (not supported in Windows RT) that allows CLI
languages, including DLR-based dynamic languages like IronPython and IronRuby, to be
used for client-side scripting.

Internet Explorer 8 introduces some major architectural changes, called Loosely Coupled
IE (LCIE). LCIE separates the main window process (frame process) from the processes
hosting the different web applications in different tabs (tab processes). A frame process can
create multiple tab processes, each of which can be of a different integrity level; each tab
process can host multiple web sites. The processes use asynchronous Inter-Process
Communication to synchronize themselves. Generally, there will be a single frame process
for all web sites. In Windows Vista with Protected Mode turned on, however, opening
privileged content (such as local HTML pages) will create a new tab process as it will not be
constrained by Protected Mode.

EXTENSIBILITY

Internet Explorer exposes a set of Component Object Model (COM) interfaces that
allows add-ons to extend the functionality of the browser. Extensibility is divided into two
types: Browser extensibility and content extensibility. Browser extensibility involves adding
context menu entries, toolbars, menu items or Browser Helper Objects (BHO). BHOs are
used to extend the feature set of the browser, whereas the other extensibility options are used
to expose that feature in the user interface. Content extensibility adds support for non-native
content formats. It allows Internet Explorer to handle new file formats and new protocols,
e.g. WebM or SPDY. In addition, web pages can integrate widgets known
as ActiveX controls which run on Windows only but have vast potentials to extend the
content capabilities; Adobe Flash Player and Microsoft Silverlight are examples. Add-ons can
be installed either locally, or directly by a web site.

Since malicious add-ons can compromise the security of a system, Internet Explorer
implements several safeguards. Internet Explorer 6 with Service Pack 2 and later feature an
Add-on Manager for enabling or disabling individual add-ons, complemented by a "No Add-
Ons" mode. Starting with Windows Vista, Internet Explorer and its BHOs run with restricted
privileges and are isolated from the rest of the system. Internet Explorer 9 introduced a new
component – Add-on Performance Advisor. Add-on Performance Advisor shows a
notification when one or more of installed add-ons exceed a pre-set performance threshold.
The notification appears in the Notification Bar when the user launches the browser.
Windows 8 and Windows RT introduce a Metro-style version of Internet Explorer that is
entirely sandboxed and does not run add-ons at all. In addition, Windows RT cannot
download or install ActiveX controls at all; although existing ones bundled with Windows
RT still run in the traditional version of Internet Explorer.
Internet Explorer itself can be hosted by other applications via a set of COM interfaces. This
can be used to embed the browser functionality inside a computer program or create Internet
Explorer shells.

SECURITY

Internet Explorer uses a zone-based security framework that groups sites based on certain
conditions, including whether it is an Internet- or intranet-based site as well as a user-editable
whitelist. Security restrictions are applied per zone; all the sites in a zone are subject to the
restrictions.

Internet Explorer 6 SP2 onwards uses the Attachment Execution Service of Microsoft
Windows to mark executable files downloaded from the Internet as being potentially unsafe.
Accessing files marked as such will prompt the user to make an explicit trust decision to
execute the file, as executables originating from the Internet can be potentially unsafe. This
helps in preventing accidental installation of malware.

Patches and updates to the browser are released periodically and made available through the
Windows Update service, as well as through Automatic Updates. Although security patches
continue to be released for a range of platforms, most feature additions and security
infrastructure improvements are only made available on operating systems which are in
Microsoft's mainstream support phase.

On December 16, 2008, Trend Micro recommended users switch to rival browsers until an
emergency patch was released to fix a potential security risk which "could allow outside
users to take control of a person's computer and steal their passwords". Microsoft
representatives countered this recommendation, claiming that "0.02% of internet sites" were
affected by the flaw. A fix for the issue was released the following day with the Security
Update for Internet Explorer KB960714, on Microsoft Windows Update.

In 2011, a report by Accuvant, funded by Google, rated the security (based on sandboxing) of
Internet Explorer worse than Google Chrome but better than Mozilla Firefox.

A more recent browser security white paper comparing Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge,
and Internet Explorer 11 by X41 D-Sec in 2017 came to similar conclusions, also based on
sandboxing and support of legacy web technologies.
6 . ANALYSIS PHASE

The system that is generally used for providing information about the products, brands and
related information to the consumers. The proposed computerised system makes the work a
lot easier, efficient and less time consuming.

A brief description about the existing system and the proposed system is given below:

6.1 EXISTING SYSTEM:

The existing system of providing information to the customers is mostly manual. It requires
lot of unnecessary resources. The drawbacks faced by the users of existing system are as
follows :

 It requires lot of paperwork and manual labour.

 A lot of hard copies of files are created manually and the record of each and every
customer is recorded, entered, cancelled, and retrieved by hands.
 A pool of human resources is to be maintained for all the manual work.
 It takes a lot of time to do and maintain such a load of work especially if the number
of customer is large and information to be provided is of huge amount.
 Sometimes updated information about the new entries of the trends or any other
information does not reach customers.
 It also involves the possibility of committing human errors.
 Maintenance of historical data/ past record is difficult as weel as costly affair.
 Due to lot of excessive resources used, maintenance cost becomes higher.
 Also, it is very riskier to adopt such a system as the files can be lost or stolen.

The proposed system provides advantages or solutions to all these problems that arose in
existing system.

6.2 PROPOSED SYSTEM

The proposed system is a computerised software system based on HTML , and internet
explorer. It overcomes all the problems that occurred in the existing system. This proposed
system is user friendly in nature as its based on various forms having option buttons to take
query from the user and solve his/her problem. The forms provides the options or fields to
submit or record the data related to each customer in different files and also allows easy
access and retrieval of the stored data. Moreover , it also helps in acquiring information on
time with less effort.

The various advantages of this sytem are:

 It is user friendly in nature.

 It provides easy access and retrieval of the information.

 Information storing and keeping records has become very easy.

 It consumes a very less amount of time as compared to the existing system.

 All the records stored in this system are safe and secure.

 It saves the cost of employing the human resources for all the paper work etc.

 The element of human error is reduced to negligible percent and the accuracy level
increases.
7 . DATABASE DESIGN
A database is an integrated collection of data files/tables related to one another in support of a
common purpose. Each file in a database is made up of records, which in turn made of data
elements. A database provides a working environment where we store tables/files; establish
relationship between tables; set properties and data validation rules that control how the
realted tables work together. The database files in this program provide effective storage
capacities and contribute to the overall efficiency of the program.

7.1 INPUT DESIGN

Proposed software uses user-friendly graphical user interface for input purpose. Data can be
easily input by the user through this screen. Repetition is avoided in data entry screen.
Whenever data, which is already input, is entered again, the system alerts you with error
messages.

The operator can easily enter the data flexibly, thus is the striking feature of the proposed
system. The beaming features of HTML forms are used in the design and hence the design
stands one step forward of others.

7.2 OUTPUT DESIGN

The computer output is the most important of information to the user. Efficient intelligence
output design would improve the system relationship with the user and help in decision
making. In online applications the information is displayed on the screen. A major form of
output is hard copy from the printer. Printout should be designed around the output
requirement of user.

7.3 SYSTEM IMPLEMENTATION

Implementation means converting a new system into operation. The source code that is actual
program is developed in this phase. In the proposed system, the source code is written in
visual basic 6.0. the installation of the software is also done in this phase.

Testing and modification

System testing is the stages of implementation, which is aimed at ensuring that the system
works accurately and efficiently before line operation commences. The following types of
tests were performed after developing a test plan. The approach was to test entity with
successively large ones, up to the system level.

Program testing

A program represents the logical elements of the system. With program testing, the actual
output was compared with the expected output. This test checks for syntax errors and logical
errors. When there was an errors, the sequence of instructions was traced and the problem
was determined.

String testing

The individual program modules that work perfectly when tested alone were integrated with
the related program modules to test how they interact with the total system.

System testing

System testing was designed to uncover weakness that was not found in the earlier tests. The
total system was validated, as the users in the operational environment would implement it.

User acceptance testing

This testing was performed with the objective of testing the users on the validity and
reliability of the system .it was verified that the procedure operate to the specifications and
also that vital data integrity was maintained.
