Performance statements:
You must:
a. Work safely at all times, complying with health and safety and other relevant regulations
guidelines
b. Follow the relevant instructions, working drawings and any other specifications
c. Ensure that the specified workpiece is available and that is in a usable condition.
d. Use the appropriate methods and techniques to cut the workpiece in their correct process and
position.
e. Secure the workpiece using the specified machines and securing devices
f. Check the complete bracket to ensure that all operations have been completed and the
finished bracket meets the required specification.
g. Deal promptly and effectively with problems within your control and report those that cannot
be solved.

Scoped of the unit:


The numbers of scope items specified (below) indicated the minimum requirements for this
Occupational Standard.

You must:
1. Carry out all of the following during the cutting Bracket steps:
 Correct prepare and set up the machines for cutting processes.
 Use the correct datum faces.
 Check the correct marking out of materials and its type of material..
 Produce a Bracket which meets the required specification.

2. The project must include those of the following elements:


 Shearing process
 Notching process
 Hack Sawing process
 Punching process
 Drilling process

3. Every workshop safety procedures and precautions must be followed during cutting works are
done and as follows:
 Beware of sharpen cutting edges and holes.
 Beware of hot chips and chips of workpiece during drilling.
 Wear face shield or safety goggles while cutting works of workpiece is carried out.
 Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) once enter the workshop.
 Obey the operating procedures of machines used.
 Ask a Technician or Lecturer before using any machines.

4. Produce bracket which meets all of the following quality and accuracy standards:
 All edges are correctly cut in accordance with the specification.
 Overall dimension are within specification tolerances.
 Ensure that completed bracket’s cutting edges and holes are cleanly cut and free from
burrs.

FABRICATING A BRACKET

Knowledge statements:

You must have knowledge and understanding of:

1. The specific safety precautions to be taken when working in a fabrication environment and
when producing structural components (general workshop and site safety, appropriate
personal protective equipment, accident procedure; statutory regulations, risk assessment
procedures and DOSH/NIOSH regulations)
2. The personal protective clothing and equipment that needs to be worn when carrying out the
fabrication activities (leather gloves, eye protection, safety helmets, ear protection etc.)
3. Safe working practices and procedures needed for producing bracket.
4. The correct methods of moving or lifting heavy plate.
5. The hazards associated with fabrication work and bracket operations and how they can be
minimized (such using dangerous or badly maintained tools and equipment, lifting and
handling log and heavy components, slips trips and falls).
6. How to obtain and interpret the necessary drawings specifications.
7. How to interpret first and third angle drawings, imperial and metric system of measurement,
workpiece reference points and system of tolerancing
8. How to interpret marking out conventions; cutting lines, etc
9. The preparations those need to be carried out on the bracket prior cutting it.
10. How to set up and align the tools and equipment that is used. (Refer Notes)
11. The materials cutting characteristic and process consideration those need to be taken into
account when cutting a bracket.
12. The use and care of tools and equipment, and control procedures.
13. Guards and safety protection equipment.
14. Inspection techniques that can be applied to check shape (including straightness) and
dimensional accuracy are to specification and within acceptable limits.
15. The extent of your own responsibility and whom you should report to if you have problems
that you cannot resolve.
