Overview:

I spent Wednesday of this week at the Materials Center with Rich, and Thursday at the DVI
offices. My time with Rich was spent talking about the project I would be doing for him, participating in
a volunteer interview, and learning to use my new laptop to do research. Rich has asked for four things:
to look for possible grants to improve volunteer services, to look at what other volunteer organizations
in the area are doing to glean some best practices, to review and recommend updates to the volunteer
application and handbook, and to recommend any improvements to the interviewing process. I will
work on this the week of October 15th.

On Thursday, I interviewed Rob Schmidlkofer, with DEP. It was very interesting. One of the
most interesting parts of that conversation was when we talked about the lack of gender diversity in the
program; and how people were assessed for readiness for this program. I only have three people left to
talk with officially, Jill, Matt, and Sandy. Hopefully I will wrap those conversations up soon. I have
already completed my agency overview paper. I thought it would be a presentation, but because the
course was switched to online, it is a written report. I will forward it to Elisha.

I am still stalled on the parent engagement assignment. I would like to meet with Erin, Shirley,
and possibly Sandy to discuss FERPA, and how I think we can change the project to meet our goals. I
also reviewed a great presentation from Shirley concerning Parent Engagement and transitions.
