Arousal Template and Wounds

LIMBIC LIES:
Wounds are where a limbic lie is inserted…. Like the wound of a father not being there when needed
convincing a boy of the lie that he is basically a worthless person.
• When we are wounded in community/relationships, we need healing in community/relationships
• What you believe about God is the most important thing about you
o 75% of Americans have a judgmental, angry, authoritative god
o We don’t understand the God of grace
o Those of us with a judgmental angry god will be angry and addicted.

KNOWLEDGE vs. BELIEF

The battle is a battle of the mind. The tool of the enemy is lies. Jesus is the truth. This becomes a battle of
the truth and lies. II COR 10 Paul talks about the weapons of warfare and taking every thought captive.
• The enemy wants to build strongholds of the mind with lies
• Jesus wants to build strongholds of truth
• Addictive behavior is, in itself, a stronghold of the mind of lies
• So many people have difficulty because they confuse what they know with what they believe and
the two are not the same
o We often know something and then convince ourselves that we believe it
o We may know that something is true but
o Our belief is what we act on
 The work of the process is to dig down through the knowledge and get to the lie
(false belief) that is the root of the destructive behavior
 The problem for many Christians is that we cover the lies we believe with the
knowledge we have acquired over the years in church
o It is not possible to live contrary to what I believe
o It is possible to live contrary to what I think I believe
 The process of getting free is a pilgrimage into the heart and the mind to discover
what I really believe (not what I know)

THE HEALING PROCESS

It’s not a straight line up or to the side. It is a loop-t-loop where half the time you feel like you are going
backwards. Emotional healing is vital and starts with letting go of the secrets.
• Secrets make people sick
o Secrets put bullets in the enemies gun
o Exposing the secrets in a safe place is a start to emotional healing
• Honesty and transparency are the key. It starts with rigorous honesty.
• We cannot be double minded (James) and be healthy
o Becoming part of the family of God is instantaneous
o The renewing is a process
o THERE IS HOPE!
TOOLS TO CONQUER
• Emergency procedures (for when you are just about ready to do something stupid)
o Write a letter to yourself
 “This is what I want my life to be…”
 “This is what I want to do to honor my family…”
 “This is the difference I want to make for God…”
 “This is what I want to do to love my wife…”
 Have it there for you
o Carry pictures of your wife or family
 People that are going to be impacted if you act out
o Have some tokens of victory
 Make small goals celebrate and have evidence of those goals
o List consequences of your behavior
 Note: do this when you are feeling sane
 What’s going to happen
 What’s going to happen to your inner self
 What’s going to happen with your relationship with your wife or others you love
 What’s going to happen with your fellowship with God
o Have all of these things in a letter or tokens that can be pulled out and read, touched, and
felt (engaging the limbic system)

The grace of God is the only thing that is going to save us

THE G-SUIT STORY

• It’s all in the blood - it’s the blood that cleanses your system of the toxins (tox-sins) in the body -
The shed blood of Jesus Christ cleanses my soul and keeps me from building up the toxins of sin
in my heart.
• 1 John 1:7-8 - “But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another,
and the blood of Jesus Christ His son cleanses us from all sin.”
• At every place where I need to do the will of God, I want to do my own will; yet at every place
Christ’s blood has been shed so I can do God’s will.
• The shed blood of Jesus Christ guarantees there is a way out of sexual bondage.
• This process is not just about getting sexually healthy it is to get you healthy in depth (spiritually
healthy).
• When you begin to understand the depth and power of God’s love, then you will be able to walk
with purity the rest of your life.
• Romans 5:12 - Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin,
and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned.
• Romans 5:15 - But the gift is not like the trespass, for if the many died by the trespass of the one
man, how much more did God’s grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus
Christ, overflow to many!
• Sinning doesn’t make you a sinner, I sin because I am a sinner!
• The covenant in the New Testament is a covenant between God the Father and God the Son and
we are in-between
• Hebrews 7:22 - Because of this oath, Jesus has become the guarantor of a better covenant.
• I will never leave you or forsake you (Deuteronomy 31:6 and Hebrews 13:5) - This is not only a
guarantee but it is a threat. His love will track you down.
• The closer I walk with Christ, the more apparent my sin becomes!
• God is not obsessed or uptight with my sin; He looks at the area of my life that is sinful and says:
“That’s what I died for and that is where I’m going to work my next miracle”
 • Isaiah 61:1-2 - “The Spirit of the sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to
proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim
freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the
Lord’s favor and the day of the vengeance of our God…”
• The very thing that used to keep you in bondage, now God takes it and uses it. He forms it into a
weapon against the enemy.
