Thank you for purchasing our UBPACS PACS solution.

UBPACS is a PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication


System) that can capture, diagnose, review, and archive medical
images and patient data.

This User’s Manual was written to help users to better understand


and use the functions of the UBPACS system.

Please read this manual thoroughly before operating the UBPACS


system.

This manual should be kept for reference purposes.

 Reproduction, reprint or distribution of this manual is prohibited


without the expressed written consent of UBPACS Co., Ltd.

Starting Quality Control
Workstation

Login
The following window is designed for login of Quality Control Workstation.

Figure 0-1 Login Window

Enter User ID and Password and select assess server. Click OK to move to main window of
Quality Control Workstation. Quality Control Workstation is only dedicated for Verify and users
eligible for Verify can log into the workstation. When unauthorized users attempt to log into the
workstation, message box of ‘You are not allowed’ pops up.

Main Window
Main Window of Quality Control Workstation is Exam Browser. Exam Browser allows you to
search exams based on various search conditions.

Exam Browser consists of Menu Bar, Toolbox, Dialog Bar for Search Condition Input, Search List
by Search Condition and Search List by Patient.

Dialog Bar for Search Condition Input


Allow you to enter search condition to search for exams. Enter each condition and click the
Search button to display result by search condition on the exam list. Details are described in the
following section.

Exam Search Dialog Bar shows search list based on input condition.

Search List by Patient


Exam list by search condition shows all exam lists of patients with selected exam.

Menu Bar
For the selected exams selected from the above two lists, functions of open ing/ deleting/
merging/ recovering/ editing exams are provided.

Dialog Bar for Search Condition Input


Allow you to enter various conditions to search appropriate exams.

Each part of Dialog Bar for Search Condition Input is described as follows:

Patient ID
Enter patient ID of exam to search.

Patient Name
Enter patient name of exam to search.

Equipment Name
Select equipment name of exam to search.

Exam Part  Select exam room

Select a part of exam to search.

Exam Item
Select an item of exam to search.

Exam Room
Select exam room of exam to search. You can select more than one exam room and the selected

exam rooms are added to a list of exam rooms. Click button and button to add/delete
exam rooms to/from a list of exam rooms, respectively.

 Select exam status

Exam Status

Select one of five exam statuses: ‘All Exam’, ‘All Order


Info.’ ‘*Non Verified Exam’, ‘Verified Exam’ and ‘Deleted Exam’. You can search exams by each
selected condition.

Prescription Date, Exam Date


Search exams corresponding to a certain period based on the selected date condition. If you
check Don’t Care Check Box on the right upper side of date selection area, you can search exams
except for date condition.

Auto Search
Exam Browser allows you to refresh exam lists. With Tool > Option > Search Condition tab, you
can designate whether to use search function and search cycle.

Regardless of setting, you can select whether to use auto search by checking a check box while a
program is running.

Search(F5)
Perform exam search by the above selected condition.

Search Condition Initialization


Restore input values entered for search conditions to default values. Default value refers to
default search condition designated for each QC Workstation. You can designate search condition
with Tool > Option > Search Condition tab.

Enter each condition for the above item and click Search button to display result lists by search
condition on search list.

Menu Bar
Menu Bar consists of a total of five menu items.

Each submenu is used in the following manner.

Open
Open images of the exams selected from exam list of Exam Browser through Image
Viewer. In order to perform works related to series and images, you have to perform this
process. You can open up to two exams at a time. Make sure that the two exams are
derived from the same person. Otherwise, an alarm message pops up and you cannot
open exams.

Delete Exam
Remove exams selected from the exam list of Exam Browser. You can delete only unverified
exams. If the currently selected exam is open by other user, an alarm message pops up and you
cannot delete the exam. Information on the exam to delete is displayed as shown in the following
figure. Click the Delete button to remove the exam. You can also recover the deleted exam with
Exam > Exam Recovery.

Merge Exam
Merge the two exams selected from the exam list of Exam Browser into one exam. You can

merge only unverified exams. Information on each exam is displayed on exam merge window. On
the exam merge window, you can also select information of merged exam. If you select Set exam
As Primary, the merged exam is filled with the selected exam information. Items of Select
Attributes for Merge are primary. Therefore, regardless of the selected exam, values selected
from this Select Attributes for Merge are filled as information of merged exam.

Recover Exam
Restore the deleted exams. In order to find out the deleted exams, select ‘Deleted’ of exam status
from Exam Search Dialog Bar, enter the desired condition and click the Search button. Then, the
exam recovery window shows the deleted exams. Click the Recover button to restore all the
removed exams.

Edit Prescription Info


Modify prescription information of the exam selected from the exam list of Exam Browser and
connect exam of UBPACS with prescription of OCS. You can select more than one prescription.
That is, many prescriptions can be mapped to an exam. By default, Edit Prescription Info window
shows a history of all prescription lists from 15 days before the exam date to the present date
among OCS prescription list for the patient of the selected exam. If you want to change the period,
modify the prescription date and click the Search button. Then, you can view the prescription lists
corresponding to the designated period.

In the following figure, select your desired prescription from all prescription lists corresponding to
the designated period and click ↓ button or double click the desired prescription to add the
prescription to the selected prescription list. More than one prescription can be added to the
selected prescription list. You can also clear the selected prescription with ↑ button. If you click the
prescription to set as the main prescription from the selected prescription list, related information
is displayed on OCS Prescription Info on the right lower side of the window. At this time, if you
click << button and then the Modify button, prescription information is mapped.

If you select Workflow > OK menu on Image Viewer, you can check if prescription information on
the current exam is valid. If the prescription information is not valid, an alarm message pops up. If

you want to modify prescription information, the following window is displayed.

Edit Exam Info


Modify information on exam selected from the exam list of Exam Browser. You can modify exam
information whenever you want to regardless of exam status. On Edit Exam Info Window, you can
modify four items: exam equipment, exam part, exam item and patient. Patient Change is used
when patient ID of exam information is not identical to the actual patient. Click the Patient

Change button and select a patient on Select Patient Window.

Edit Patient Master Info


Modify patient information. This menu is available only when a user with Admin privilege logs into
the system. This function is independent of exam. When inaccurate patient information is entered
in UBPACS, patient information changes and patient information is added, you can use its
function. You can modify such items as patient name, gender, date of birth and resident
registration number. Modify the item you want to change and click the Modify button to change
the patient information. If you want to change other patient’s information, click the Initialize
Patient Info button, enter patient ID in patient ID field and click the Search button. Then,
information on the corresponding patient is displayed. If you want to export patient information
from OCS, click the Export Info from OCS button.

QC History
Show history of quality control(deletion/merge/split of exam, editing patient info, deleting image,
etc.) in relation to the selected exam.

Complete Image Check (Verify)


Verify that image quality control is completed, that is, interpretation is possible. Verification is
performed to improve interpretation of images after adjusting image brightness, deleting
unnecessary images and splitting exams. Therefore, it is recommended to perform this task after
operating images on Image Viewer. However, for exams not requiring additional verification, there
is a function allowing you not to open images for verification. If you select an exam and OK menu
on Exam Browser, the following verification window is displayed. Then, you can designate a
doctor to interpret the exam(optional) and click OK button.

Cancel Image Check(Unverify)


Change verified exams to unverified exams. Exams once verified are not possible to delete their
images or to be split. If, however, you cancel image check, you can restore verification status to
the previous status and operate images.

Cancel/Complete Check of Multi-Exams (Unverify/ Verify)


You can cancel/complete check of multi-exams by selecting Control+Mouse.

However, editing prescription is required respectively.

Option
Show the window where you can modify configuration information of Quality Control Workstation.
For detailed information on options, refer to Chapter 3, Option.

Program Lockout
If there is no user input for a certain period of time, this function prevents unauthorized users from
using the system. Program lockout can be cleared when actual password and input password are
identical.

Export to CD
In order o export the selected exam image to CD, this function enables you to copy images and
image viewer program files to a specific local directory. Users need only to write files and
subfolders under the directory to CD with CD creation software. CD creation program provided by
CD Writer basically refers to the directory. You can designate the directory with Tool > Option >
Export to CD tab.

through patient search in the above figure. As shown in the above figure, select exams to write to
CD from the exam list of each patient and then click OK button. Then, related image files and files

required for image viewing are copied to the corresponding directory. Select Latest XX Numbers
of Exams button allows you to select several exams at the same time. You can set the number of
exams which will be selected simultaneously from Option. If you select Include Interpretation
checkbox to export interpretation result to CD as well.

Search patient information and exam lists of the corresponding patient with search word of patient
through patient search in the above figure. Select exams to write to CD using checkbox and click
the Add button. In order to cancel the selection, choose the exam and click Delete button. In
order to view other patient’s exams, enter patient ID in patient search field and perform search. In
the same way as above, select exams to write to CD using checkbox and click the Add button.
When the search selection is completed, click OK button.

2 Image Viewer
Image Viewer consists of Menu Bar, Toolbox, Thumbnail Bar and Image Display Window(Title
Bar).

Menu Bar
Menu Bar consists of a total of 10 Menu Items and Help Files.

Open Search
Return to the Exam Brower Window.

Close Search
Close currently displayed exams. When there is change in image information, message box pops
up to ask you whether to save the change or not.

Close All
Close all the exams currently open. When there is change in image information, message
box pops up to ask you whether to save the change or not.

Save Exam
Save the modified image information when there is change in information on the currently
displayed image.

Save All
Save the modified image information when there is change in information on the currently
displayed image.

Delete Exam
Remove currently displayed exams. You can delete only unverified exams. Information
on exams to delete is displayed on the following figure. Click the Delete button to remove
exams. You can also restore the deleted exams with Exam > Recover Exam.

Merge Exams
Merge two exams currently displayed into an exam. You can merge only unverified exams.
Merge Exams Window shows exam information of each exam, allowing you to select
information about the merged exam. If you select Set exam As Primary, the merged exam is
filled with the selected exam information. Items of Select Attributes for Merge are primary.
Therefore, regardless of the selected exam, values selected from this Select Attributes for
Merge are filled as information of merged exam

Split Exams
Split the currently displayed exam into two exams. If you click Split Exams menu,
representative image of each series is shown on Split Exams Window. The series
selected from the current Image Viewer is displayed by default.

Select the series to split on the above window and click OK button. Then, the above window
disappears and the two split exams are loaded again to Image Viewer.

Recover Exam
Restore the deleted exams. In order to find out the deleted exams, select ‘Deleted’ of
exam status from Exam Search Dialog Bar, enter the desired condition and click the
Search button. Then, the exam recovery window shows the deleted exams. Click the Recover
button to restore all the removed exams

QC History

Print
Print currently displayed image with DICOM standard of film printer or Window compatible paper
printer.

Close Image Viewer


Close Image Viewer and convert to Search Brower.

Finally perform modification or cancel command task to return to the previous status.

Reexecute
Restore task cancelled with Undo function to the original status.

Copy
Copy the selected annotation.

Paste
Paste copied annotation.

Delete
Remove the selected annotation.

Split
Split the displayed screen into two or four.

In case of None, an Image Display Window appears. In case of 2V, two(left/right) Image Display
Windows appear and in case of 2H, two(up/down) Image Display Windows appear, respectively.
In case of 2X2, a total of four Image Display Windows are displayed. If you want to split the
screen into more than four parts, select Other and perform your desired partition. A series of new
exam can be displayed on the partitioned Image Display Window. You can also select Image
Display Window to display.

Expand

Used for systems with two or more than two monitors. Many images contained in a series
can be displayed on many monitors.

Shrink
Restore expanded monitor to the original display. The following figures show Expand and

Toggle menu enabling you to show/hide Scout Image.

Merge Series
Merge currently displayed exam series. Select two series on the following window and click OK
button to merge two series into one.

Split Series
Split currently displayed exam series. Select images on Image Display Window and click Split
Series menu to split the selected images into new series.

Recover Series
Restore the deleted series. Select the series to recover and click OK button to restore the

Change Series Order


Change the order of currently displayed exam series. Drag the mouse on the following window to
change the order of series and click OK button. Then, the order of the selected series is changed.
If you want to change the series in reverse order, click Change in Reverse Order button and then
OK button.

Cine View
Display all images of series sequentially like movie. You can also control image movement
method using control panel.

Add Scout Image


Add Scout Image, displaying image position between cross series. When you select Add
Scout Image, Show Scout Image is automatically activated.

Delete Scout Image


Remove the generated scout image.

Restore to the final storage status


Restore all images of series to the final storage status.

Restore window/level
Change Window/Level with the selected Series DICOM information.

Call all images


Read all images of series to memory. If all images are loaded to memory, this menu is disabled.

Define window/level
Apply pre-defined Window/Level to Series.

Delete Image
Remove currently selected images. Select images on Image Display Window and click Delete
Image menu to remove the selected images.

Change Order of Image


Change the order of currently displayed exam images. Select images on Image Display Window
and change the order. Then, click Change Order of Image menu to change the order of the
selected images. If you want to change images in reverse order, click R button on keyboard.

Recover Image
Restore the deleted images. Select images to recover on Image Display Window and click
Recover Image menu to restore the selected images.

Change Image in Reverse Order


Change the currently displayed exam images in reverse order. You can also simultaneously
change a set of many images in reverse order.

Popup
Display the selected images on Popup Image Window. Used to compare the selected image with
other images.

Display Key Image


Designate the selected image as a key image, showing that the image is important and
interesting among series.

Cancel Key Image Display


Cancel the key image.

Display Print Image


Designate the selected image as a print image. There are three methods to set a print
image: All Image, Selected Image, Key Image.

View DICOM Info


Display DICOM information including Patient, Study, Patient Study, Series, Equipment and Image

Copy to Clipboard
Copy the selected image to clipboard and use on other applications, MS-Word or PowerPoint.

Select all images.

Cancel Select All


Cancel the selected all image.

Export Image
Save the selected image to local hard disk. Formats which can be saved include .bmp, .jpeg,
DICOM files.

Select
You can select/cancel images.

 [Shift] : If you want to select sequential images, select the first image and click the last image
with [Shift] key pressed. Then, all images from the first to the last will be selected.

 [Ctrl] : While you are pressing and holding [Ctrl] key, click images you want one by one. If a
certain image has already been selected, selection of the image is cancelled.

Window/Level
Adjust Window/Level(brightness & contrast) value of the selected image.

You can change Window/Level with mouse dragging on the selected
image.

Expand/Shrink
You can expand the selected image up to 16X.

Move

When you cannot view the entire image due to image bigger than window, you can see
the hidden part by moving the image.

Magic Glass
You can zoom in a part of image like using a magnifier.

Local Window/Level
Same as Window/Level. However, you can apply window/level of a certain image part to
the entire image.

Left click and drag a mouse to create a rectangular on your desired area of the image.
During mouse dragging, window/level value of image in the rectangular continues to change.
When you release the mouse button, the window/level value of the rectangular is applied to the
entire image.

Manual Stack
You can display next/previous images sequentially through mouse dragging on the currently
displayed image window.

Pixel Value
Display pixel value and coordinate of the area where the mouse is placed.

Negative Image
You can change the selected image to negative grayscale.

Revert
You can reverse the selected image with horizontal/vertical symmetry.

Rotate
You can rotate the selected image 90 degree or 270 degree.

Histogram Equalization
You can readjust brightness distribution of the selected image.

Sharpen
Increase visibility of small lines or cracks of the selected image.

Complete Image Check


Verify that image quality control is completed, that is, interpretation is possible. Verification is
performed to improve interpretation of images after adjusting image brightness, deleting
unnecessary images and splitting exams. Therefore, it is recommended to perform this task after
operating images on Image Viewer. However, for exams not requiring additional verification, there
is a function allowing you not to open images for verification.

If you select OK menu, if images of the current exam are saved is verified. If some of the images
are not saved, an alarm message pops up. Then, if prescription information of the current exam is
valid is verified. If the information is not valid, an alarm message pops up. If you want to modify
prescription information, Edit Prescription Info Window is displayed. If you want to verify images
without modifying prescription information, click Omit Prescription Info Editing -> Complete
Verification button.

If the above two are all valid, an alarm message doesn’t appear but the following confirmation
window is displayed. Then, you can designate a doctor to interpret the exam(optional) and click
OK button.

Cancel Image Check(Unverify)


Change verified exams to unverified exams. Exams once verified are not possible to delete their
images or to be split. If, however, you cancel image check, you can restore verification status to
the previous status and operate images.

Option
You can change options. Each option is as follows:

System

Set options regarding server, memory, monitor and cache. When two monitors are configured,
you can fix Exam Browser. When you change monitor configuration related items, you have to
restart a program to reflect the change.

Workspace

You can change dialog box font, exam browser font, annotation color and font, thumbnail and
system icon size. Workspace options are applied to systems where programs are installed.
Therefore, logging into the same system with different user IDs makes it possible to maintain the
same value.

Program Lockout
If there is no user input for a certain period of time, this function prevents unauthorized users from
using the system. Program lockout can be cleared when actual password and input password are
identical.

Toolbox
Toolbox consists of frequently used icons. Toolbox can be configured by each user and identical
configuration is displayed regardless of system. Toolbox can be floated and its location can be
changed by each user.

You can display the hidden toolbox by checking checkbox of View > Toolbox.

Toolbox configuration is provided from Tool > Toolbox Configuration. Up to 40 icons can be
displayed on toolbox.

Thumbnail Bar
Thumbnail Bar displays representative images of series included in the exam with thumbnail
image. Click an image displayed on Thumbnail Bar to display images included in the
corresponding series on Image Display Window.

Series Display
If you right click with mouse pointer on Thumbnail Image in multi monitor environment, an image
of the selected series is displayed on the monitor and images of the next series are automatically
and sequentially displayed on next monitors.

If you place mouse point on exam selection tab, tooltip showing information about patients and
exams is displayed.

If you right click with mouse point on exam selection tab, a list of related exams appear along with
display and close menu. Click a list of related exams to display an image of the corresponding
exam.

Title Bar
Title Bar is composed of as follows:

Layout Change
Designate the number of rows/columns of images displayed on Image Display Window. Click the
Format button on the left side of Title Bar to display the window where you can change layout as
shown in the following figure. Search your desired format with mouse dragging and right click to
change layout.

Exam Info Display


Display information about patients(name, gender, age, patient ID) as well as exam(exam date,
doctor, clinical comments) in relation to the currently displayed exam.

Exam Result Display


If you place a mouse on Title Bar, clinical comments and exam results in relation to the currently
displayed exam are displayed in tooltip format.

Image Navigation
Title Bar shows total number of images of currently displayed series and nth image is displayed.
Click the Navigation button to move to your desired image. With wheel mouse, you can move
between lines by rolling the mouse wheel.

 << : Previous Page(Same as Page Up Key)

 < : Previous line(Same as ↑ Key)

 > : Next Line(Same as ↓ Key)

 >> : Next Page(Same as Page Down Key)

If you check the Synch button of more than two Title Bars and perform navigation, whenever you
navigate one series, the other series is also automatically navigated.

4 Caution

1) Do not use tape library near vibration objects such as motors, engines and high-frequency
speakers, if possible.

2) Do not keep radios, TVs and electro-wave receivers near tape library.

3) Risk of magnet substances – Magnet substances may cause patient’s exam images to be
distorted or broken on CRT monitor. Be sure to keep magnet substances away from diagnosis
monitor.

4) Make sure to turn off the system first before turning off peripherals such as tape library and
dedicated monitor. Otherwise, the system may be damaged.

Peripherals such as system computer, tape library and monitor must use grounded outlets and
plugs. Protect peripherals from sparkles caused by lightening and rain.
