Critic Paper Re: Philippine Development Plan 2017-2022

According to the National Economic and Development Authority who is responsible in

economic development and planning (www.neda.gov.ph), the Philippine Development Plan 2017-

2022 is the first medium term plan to be anchored on the 0-10-point Socioeconomic Agenda and

is geared towards the Ambisyon natin 2040. The Philippine Development Plan was made through

the open consultation of the stakeholders and the general public. It was approved by the National

Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) chaired by the President Rodrigo Roa Duterte on

February 20, 2017. The Philippine Development Plan is mainly about the development of the

Filipino citizens that need do achieved within a period. It is the goal of the government to lessen

the poverty of the country and to help boosting our economy. This will lay down the foundation

for a more inclusive growth, a high trust and resilient country, and a globally competitive

knowledge economy. Having a long-term perspective is very important because it secures the

means of improving people’s lives.

In order to achieve and to fulfill the goals of the Philippine Development Plan, the Plan

falls under three basic principles which are; Malasakit, Tunay na pagbabago and Tunay na pag-

unlad. Malasakit is a term which means concern. It is about the concern of the administration as

well as the government in implementing policies and such for the public. It aims to regain the trust

of all Filipino Citizens. It is to promote awareness on anti-corruption measures, to strengthen

social sectors and to implement laws that are appropriate and tailored to the needs and timelines

of the people. Malasakit from the people and from the government is the best foundation in order

to achieve the goals of the plan. It will be easier to build a government where everybody is actively

participating and have “malasakit sa isa’t isa”. Second is the tunay na pagbabago, the pagbabago

pillar seeks to make it easier for the marginalized subsectors and people groups to participate in

economic progress. The administration added the term “maginhawa” because the administration

believes that with this Philippine Development Plan, the life of Filipino citizens will make even
more comfortable than what we are experiencing today. Pagbabago means changing in a positive

way that will help our economy as well as the people. The government will ensure the

sustainability of its efforts to improve the productivity of the agriculture, forestry, and fisheries

(AFF) sector and to continuously build the capacity of AFF stakeholders. Lastly is the Tunay na

pag-unlad, in the Philippine Development Plan 2017-2022 all the changes, the growth and such

will continue growing until our government reach its peak. Tunay na pag-unlad doesn’t end in year

2022. It will continue up to the next administration as long as they have their own mission and

vision that will help to develop the country. All these pillars/structures are aimed to all Filipino to

achieved matatag, maginhawa at panatag na buhay. Remember that the main objective of the

Philippine Development Plan is to lessen the poverty of the Filipino without compromising the

growth of our economy. Because “lahat tayong mga Pilipino ay sabay sabay na uunlad”.
