Skittles Project Part 2

1. Candy color would be qualitative because color can not be measured. Where on the other hand
the number of candies per bag can be measured because the information is in quantities. So this
would be quantitative. Qualitative is the single skittle and quantitative is the whole bag of
skittles.

Sample size=2098

Summary statistics:

Column n Mean Std. dev. Median Range Min Max Q1 Q3 IQR Unadj. Mode
std. dev.
Total 35 59.9 2.3 60 11 54 65 59 61 2 2.27 60

5. From the class data, it shows 3 outliers 54, 55, and 65 because they are not within the lower and
upper limits. My bag contained 58 candies which is not considered an outlier.

Lower limits: 59-1.5(2)=56

Upper limits: 61+1.5(2)=64

6. It is appropriate to discuss the quantitative distribution but according to the book (Fundamentals Of
Statistics; pg.84) it is not appropriate to discuss the qualitative distribution. The dot plot is skewed left
because the tail is longer on the left than right due to the lower number of candies per bag. The
histogram in consider bell shaped because of the higher frequency in the middle. It is not appropriate to
discuss the qualitative distribution.
