1. Discuss different phenomena that take place in a non linear system
2. Discuss different inherent non linearties which may be present in a system

4. Jump resonance is a phenomenon in a spring. Explain with neat diagrams
5. For a characteristics equation of second order s 2 +2ξωns +ωn2=0 draw the phase portrait of roots
whose locations are (i) both are real negative (ii) one is real positive and other is real negative
and both are equal
6. Explain how stability can be found out by using nyquist plot and describing function method
7. Determine whether the following quadratic form is positive definite or negative definite

8. In continuous time, a system is given by the transfer function G(s)= k/(s+a).Find the Z-transfer
function G(Z)
9. Find the value of x(2) where difference equation is given as x(k+2) +4x(k+1) + 5x(k) =0
and the initial conditions are x(0)=0 and x(1) =1
10. Solve the difference equation using z-transform method
X(k+2) +3x(k+1) +2x(k)=0 ,given x(0)=0 and x(1)=1
11. Explain limit cycle in non linear system.
12. Find inverse of Z transform ( z sinwt) ̸ ( z2 ̶ 2Zcoswt +1) and then mention the laplace
transform of the function

13. Explain singular points. Name the different equilibrium points and nature of stability for various combinations of

locations of characteristics roots.Draw the phase portrait for each such points.-----5 marks

14. Find the describing function of On-Off or relay non linearity ------ 5 marks

16. What do you mean by asymptotic stability and Global asymptotic stability ---5 marks

17 Using describing function method determine the amplitude and frequency of the limit cycle for the negative unity
feedback system and in open loop a on-off relay is in series with 1/s(s+1)(s+2)-----10 marks
18 A linear system is described by the state equation Ẍ+3Ẋ +2x=0.Investigate the stability by
Lyapunov theorem
