Q.1 What is the number of atoms in body centred cubic unit cell of a crystal ?
Q.2 What is the role of silica in the metallurgy of copper ?
Q.3 Draw the structures of the following compound.
3-Bromo-4-phenylpentanoic acid
Q.4 Explain why propanol has higher boiling point than that of the hydrocarbon, butane?
Q.5 Arrange the following compounds in an increasing order of their basic character
RNH2 , NH3, R2NH, R3N
Q.6 Write IUPAC names of the following:
Q.27 (i) What type of bonding helps in stabilising the α-helix structure of proteins?
(ii) Why are vitamin A and vitamin C essential to us? Give their important sources.
Q.28 (a) For the reaction
H+
C12H22O11 + H2O C6H12O6 + C6H12O6
Write:
(i) Rate of reaction expression
(ii) Rate law equation
(iii) Molecularity
(iv) Order of the reaction
(b) The following data was obtained during the first order thermal decomposition of SO2Cl2 at constant
volume
SO2Cl2 (g) SO2 (g) + Cl2(g)
Experiment Time /s Total Pressure /atm
1 0 0.5
2 100 0.6
Calculate the rate of reaction when total pressure is 0.65
OR
a) Illustrate graphically the effect of catalyst on the rate of reaction.
b) Catalyst have no effect on the equilibrium constant. Why?
c) The decomposition of A into product has value of k as 4.5 x 103 s-1 at 10°C and activation energy is 60
KJ mol-1.Calculate the temperature at which the value kW(J) be 1.5 x104 s-1
Q.29 (a) An organic compound (A) with molecular formula C8H8O forms an orange-red precipitate with 2,4-DNP
reagent and gives yellow precipitate on heating with iodine in the presence of sodium
hydroxide. It neither reduces Tollens’ or Fehlings’ reagent, nor does it decolourise bromine water or Baeyer’s
reagent. On drastic oxidation with chromic acid, it gives a carboxylic acid (B) having molecularformula C7H6O2.
Identify the compounds (A) and (B) and explain the reactions involved.
(b) Although phenoxide ion has more number of resonating structures than carboxylate ion, carboxylic acid
is a stronger acid than phenol. Why?
Or
(a) Complete the following reactions
(i)
(ii)
(iii)
