The students will demonstrate to their parents what progress they have made, what they are working
on now, and what they will do. At this point in the year, the students are putting together UIL music, all-
region etudes/solos, and are experimenting with chamber music. The informance will consist of full
band pieces, solos (students who have volunteered), small and fun chamber pieces (ex. Clarinet trio,
brass quintet, flute quartet) of pop music or film scores, and a performance from the middle school jazz
band. To appeal to parents, and play music students are familiar with and enjoy, many performances
will be of popular music, stand tune arrangements, and recognizable tunes. These pieces also will not
interfere with UIL preparation, as it is being prepared in the fall semester rather than the spring. In
between performances, students (non section leaders) will individually or in small groups explain to
parents fun experiences so far at junior high football games and concerts, “upperclassmen” will talk
about end of the year band trip, and excitement for upcoming competitions (UIL/all-region).
