E1.2: JCPOA for Iran

US is the only country within the JCPOA deal that has an issue with Iran. The other five

countries and the European Union have no problems at all; they are not complaining nor are they

trying to pull out of the deal. And quite frankly the restrictions on the JCPOA deal already had

almost little to no benefits at all for Iran. As stated in John Oliver’s show Last Week Tonight they

had to reduce stockpiles by 98%, they also agreed to no weapon-grade enriched uranium for 15

years. So the deal that they already had limited them from almost anything and everything.

Consequently, the policy course that Iran should choose to best benefit itself in its relationship

with the United States is continuing to follow the JCPOA with the European Union, UK,

Germany, Russia, France, and China. And then renegotiate with the United States and work out a

better plan that will benefit both parties. However, Iran has been going through a lot of ups and

downs they can never have anything stable. for example a man that works in a slaughterhouse

said that work has dropped drastically in the past couple of weeks due to the US sanctions he

also stated, “Cost keep changing every day,” and “ It’s 500,000 tomans (about $50) one day for a

sheep, tomorrow it could be 550,000. So it’s not economically feasible for us. It’s not worth

it” (Walsh). Iranians not only have to deal with the issues of living but with everything else, the

United States throws at them.

Iran is completely at a loss in this situation and there is no benefit or compensation for them.

Another big issue was stated in Daniel Henninger said in his article “It’s Trumps Iran Deal Now”

it has been written or said maybe a million times that President Obama’s “signature” foreign-

policy achievement was the Iran nuclear deal. now they are calling President Trump‘s

withdrawal from the deal foreign policy “vandalism”. So as you can see there are two very

drastic sides of this hectic deal and furthermore, it has been proven that Trump usually picks the

worst route because he feels like you need drastic change and that simply is not the case at all.

Which leads into the significance of all of it, Iran will always continue to struggle as long as

Trump continues to have a say in their matters it wouldn’t benefit Iran one bit if they were to

continue to feed into President Trump’s alternative motive. As it is shown yet again in another

article “Economic benefits from the JCPOA have yet to trickle down and impact the lives of

average citizens. Disappointed expectations could contribute to a trend of rising Iranian

nationalism” (Oxford). An example of this is, his twitter and he’s tweeted on multiple occasions

on how he feels that the Iran deal is terrible, insane, and stupid. Also seen in some of Trump’s

speeches that were aired live on TV, he stated that it’s the worst deal ever and the United States

got nothing out of the deal but yet the US was able to make sure that they Iran could have no

nuclear weapons so so it becomes very very unclear to understand president Trump’s Statements.

Unfortunately, it is sad to say but the United States is losing credibility overtime when Trump

pulls out of agreements so drastically or makes hasty and undeveloped decisions that could cost

the United States a lot more international issues. As it has been shown with an interview with an

Iranian man he stated this "But they [USA] don't act justly. We don't count in Mr. Trump's eyes.

He has problems with the government, but what's my sin? We don't count” (Walsh). Furthermore,

this is overlooked too often. The big underlying personal issue between the United States

Government and the citizens of Iran. It has been stated many times that Iranians don’t hate

Americans but they hate the government because the government takes hold of their society and

shakes it all up. Also if you compare all the data that is out there there’s a lot of issues and

controversies between the United States officials and the citizens of Iran for example “ the U.S.

officials said Iran is making preparations that would enable denial-of-service attacks against

thousands of electric grids, water plants, and healthcare and technology companies in the U.S.,

Germany, the U.K. and other countries in Europe and the Middle East” (Kube). And by the looks

of it, it just seems like the US makes a lot of accusations against Iran in many different ways. At

first glance, it just looks like the US does not like Iran and as you further look into the data it’s

proven that the current government officials don’t support Iran nor do they want to be

cooperative. Iran has also stated many of times that they have no intention and engaging in any

kind of cyber war with any countries.

However the US has stated that if other countries pull out of the deal as well they feel that I

run will retaliate so now the US is preparing for cyber attacks and also nuclear attacks with the

confusing part is if the US would’ve negotiated with Iran there would not be an issue of any of

this in there wouldn’t be any problems but the United States continues to provoke them and also

mess with their money and daily life that it’s causing problems to lead to these big unnecessary

issues. But some United States officials claimed, “ we cannot afford another unnecessary war,

and countries and the public must be vigilant to stop it” (Kube). So it can’t be saying that it’s a

very contradicting topic and to be completely honest it seems like no one knows what they truly

want in this situation you have Iran who wants a better society but also really doesn’t want to

give up their nuclear power but they are willing to compromise and lower it and then you have

the Night states who are never truly happy and wants nothing but power they contradict each

other and they’re gonna continue to Butthead until they find a happy medium. In conclusion The

real question is so what is going to make this completely better honestly there’s no real answer

the best bet would be to follow the policy course that has been set up through the JCPOA

between the European Union, UK, Germany, Russia, France, China, and the United States and

under that the United States should renegotiate with Iran to make things better for each other in

the long run because at the end of the day everyone is looking for a benefit. And the only way to

get a benefit for everyone is compromising. But the only way to do that is not reacting drastically

for hasty but with talking and looking at the cause-and-effect of each situation.
