Nature of the business (Description of your Business)

ICE sCREAMs! offers a variety of classic and color-changing flavored ice

creams, with mouth-watering toppings, coatings, and other ice cream foods with
revised quotes about ice creams painted in cribs where customers can eat out
and share moments. Indoor games can also be played, and books and
magazines can be read. The décor is a genuine ice cream theme including
customized ice creamed pillows in the crib and a sticky note area for messages
and feedbacks.

In addition to the ice cream food offerings, ICE sCREAMs! anticipates the
selling of both ice cream cakes, gourmet traditional cakes and birthday cakes.
These cakes will be displayed for immediate sale at all times during business
hours and can also be produced in quantity on a special order basis for caterers
and parties.

Moreover, depending on the special event happening within the country,

the business may offer customized cup or glass for the ice cream or limited
edition flavor and the business may also cater a celebration – birthday party or
anniversaries and such.
The Goal, Vision and Mission

The goal of the enterprise is to be a well-known ice cream parlor all over
the Philippines and as well as to other nearby countries by serving a quality
product in a consistent, courteous and timely manner in order to attract new
customers and have the customers return again for another satisfying,
flavorsome treat, while at the same time earning a reasonable return on the initial
investment.

The entrepreneurs believe that for an organization to be successful, the

organization must ensure that the customer continues to return to purchase the
product, again and again. One way to ensure that customers will repeatedly go to
the business is to provide consistency in both the product and service.

In order to earn a reasonable return on the investment, along with the

ability to repay debt, strict cost-control measures will be implemented. These
measures will include, among others, proper and prudent purchasing practices,
maximization of product distribution through strict adherence to weights, amounts
and recipes (portion control), effective utilization of personnel, and the constant
search for ways to reduce the cost of sales of our products without sacrificing
quality and service.

The vision of ICE sCREAMs! is “to create brand awareness for our ice
cream, meet customers’ satisfactions and build relations and loyalty to them by
bringing surprises and delights with our wide variety of flavors leading to being
one of the most popular ice cream parlor within the Philippines and nearby
countries.”

The mission of ICE sCREAMs! is “to serve and satisfy the cravings of our
beloved customers with our finest quality ice cream at reasonable prices while
responding to the suggestion of the public and conforming to all laws regarding
the sale of food on both the state and local level.”

II. Executive Summary

ICE sCREAMs! is a product of 10 entrepreneurs who were formerly each

other’s classmates during their Grade 12th. They came up entering the field of
business as they see the growing demand of people engaging into food
adventures and savoring the unique evolution of classic foods. This pave way to
their establishment of an ice cream parlor, offering classic and color-changing ice
creams.
They have experimented a lot with their recipes of their food offerings and
after a lot of trial and errors, they have finally found the mouth-watering recipe
that’ll capture the taste buds of the public. They’ve gone through different areas
in Metro Manila to find the right place for the building of the business. They saw
the potential of establishing the business in an unoccupied lot surrounded by the
three huge malls – SM Fairview, Fairview Terraces and Robinsons Novaliches –
as there are, as a matter of fact, a lot of people going on the three big malls and
placing a food business nearby can attract a number of customers. They named
the business ICE sCREAMs! as Filipinos are naturally lovers of sweets and
mostly during dry season, Filipinos “scream” for “ice creams.”

They’ve established an ice cream parlor that can cater at least 30

customers. The interior of the business consists of cribs with ice cream pillows.
Indoor games and books are offered to the customers, as well. The business,
furthermore, offers a price that is just as competitive as the others’, and has
approachable and friendly staffs. The business is promoted mainly through the
use of social media. However, there are also others ways to establish awareness
of the enterprise to the public such as stickers in jeepneys and catering a dessert
for a celebration.

The 10 entrepreneurs were the ones to supervise the daily operation of

the business. They have hired a manager so that in cases that no one from them
is around, the manager will held responsibility of the supervision of the business.

Looking at the financial forecast of the business, the enterprise is hitting

the cravings of the public as it earns profit and gradually grows.

The business has obtained all the necessary documents, licenses and
permits needed to run the business. The enterprise also underwent the product
conceptualization, the prototype making of the products, the interviews to hire
staffs that fit in the jobs, the first customers and sales of the business and its first
actual production to serve to the market.

III. Environmental and Industry Analysis

Fairview, Quezon City is a lifestyle urbanized area, with many of its

locations aiming to create a consortium of unique food adventures and
conveniences for people living and/or working here. The strategic place of the
business, which is the point surrounded by the three malls – SM Fairview,
Fairview Terraces and Robinsons Novaliches, is a good place to attract
customers as there are a lot of people going to the three malls. Some are even
going on one mall then another.
When it comes to the ice cream parlor industry, there are not as many in
the Philippines. There may be but there are only few who can actually cater, at
most 10 customers or less, people who want to eat as they are only given a small
stall in the mall. Furthermore, famous ice cream maker such as Selecta and
Magnolia only offers their products through the use of distributors or channels.

Thus, ICE sCREAMs! is the best offer to the public to fit in this call in
business industry.

IV. Marketing Plan

ICE sCREAMs! offers a variety of classic and color-changing flavored ice

creams, with mouth-watering toppings, coatings, and other ice cream foods. The
enterprise also offers ice cream cakes, gourmet cakes and birthday cakes.
ICE sCREAMs! is located between Robinsons Novaliches and Fairview
Terraces opening up from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM. However, the staffs are expected
to be 1 hour earlier than the opening time to check and clean the place and to
have a prayer before every working day starts.
To come up with the price, the business owners delineated first the
variable costs and fixed costs and then looked at the price ranges of offerings of
the competitors. The business owners decided to put the ranges of the price from
₱100-280 depending on the size (regular, medium, or large), and the type of their
order (classic or color changing).
Of course, the best way to promote a business is through the use of social
media sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, where the entrepreneurs
can make their potential customers aware of the business’ existence free from
any huge expenses.
However, there are a lot of ways to attract customers. The place of the
business is a good strategy for the business already given that the jeepney of
Bagong Silang Maligaya passes in the road nearby and bus loading station is
also near the parlor. Thus, by any chance, a potential customer may probably
see the business and be attracted to eat at it. The size of the business structure
can be viewed before riding in a jeepney if you exited at SM Fairview’s exit near
French Baker and while taking the footbridge from SM Fairview to Fairview
Terraces or from SM Fairview to Robinsons Novaliches.
ICE sCREAMs! food offerings can be, most likely, seen being consumed
in different areas within or nearby the premises as by fact that there are a lot of
people going into the three huge malls surrounding the business and customers
are consuming their orders in containers with ICE sCREAMs! logo.
ICE sCREAMs also have a huge signage of its name outside. It can also
paste stickers to the jeepneys that pass by the business so passengers of this
transportation system may know the existence of the business.
ICE sCREAMs! can also cater the desserts for fairs, festivals and parties
nearby. These outside sales will give ICE sCREAMs! name recognition which will
help make it a primary destination for an expanded segment of the market.
If it continues to rise, the business may also engage into coupons, or
discounts depending on a special event happening. For example, during Fathers’
day, a potential customer can bring his or her father with him or her and he or
she will get his or her father a free classic ice cream for only a price of one.
The business has rectangular infrastructure built to cater all the people
who wanted to eat. There is a readable signage of the business’ name and an
approximately 6 ft. high ice cream in a cone with a logo of ICE sCREAMs!
The interior is consists of different sizes of cribs where customers can eat.
There are customized ice cream pillows inside the cribs. Indoor games and
books are placed in a shelf. A customer can get any indoor game and/or books to
get enjoy with as he or she and/or the people he or she’s with eats. There is a
place for putting up sticky notes for confessions, feedbacks and messages.
Classic and color-changing ice creams are all recipes from the business
owners. The color-changing ice creams have this so-called “Chameleon’s
Charm” syrup that makes the ice cream color change every time one licks it. To
make the processing faster, the business purchased an ice cream machine and it
is used in the daily operations of the business.
All the business owners will manage the overall supervision of ICE
sCREAMs!. They seek assistance from a trustworthy manager whom they hired.
The manager, whom is responsible and well-experience when it comes to the
field, will be in-charge when none of the business owners are around. Lastly, to
make the business run, ICE sCREAMs! have approachable and friendly staffs
who are certainly fitted to their jobs and flexible to change within the customers’
demands.

VII. Timetable/Milestones

Formal Registration of Business

Since the business has a partnership organization, a binding contract was

signed by all of the partners. The clearances such as Food and Drug
Administration (FDA) approval certificate, barangay clearance, and fire safety
clearance, certificate of electrical inspection, certificate of occupancy, locational
clearance and sanitary clearance were all passed by the enterprise to secure a
mayor’s permit to operate. A bank certificate of deposit on the money
contributions of the partners and the approval for the partnership name from the
Department of Trade and Industry were also obtained by the business.
Furthermore, Articles of Partnership was crafted and filed to Securities and
Exchange Commission (SEC) and the business is also registered in the Bureau
of Internal Revenue (BIR), Social Security System (SSS) and other government
instrumentalities that may have jurisdiction over the enterprise’s type of business.

Completion of product or service design

The growing demand of people who loves to engage themselves into food
adventures and the personal experiences of unique food getaways lightened the
entrepreneurial mind of the business owners.

After researching about the current food businesses, the entrepreneurs

decided to launch an ice cream parlor, named ICE sCREAMs!, as they found out
that there is only few ice cream parlor or restaurant within the city. There may be
a lot of stalls inside the malls such as Dairy Queen and Baskin Robbins and
Selecta and Magnolia which offers ice cream in plastic containers, but there are
only few that can cater the people who want to eat. However, the twist of the
business is not only does the business offer classic flavored ice creams; it also
offers color-changing ice creams.

The business owners search over the Internet to know how to make a
classic flavored ice creams and how a color-changing ice creams work and as
well as the possible look of the cup or glass where the ice cream can be serve
on.

Completion of prototypes

The business owners tried making samples on the kitchen of one of them.
They first made a classic ice cream with machine they bought over Lazada – an
online shopping site. The sister of one of the entrepreneurs, who became the first
one to taste the prototypes, commended the classic ice cream made as flavorful.

After making few delicious classic ice creams, the business owners
experimented for the color-changing ice creams. At first, they couldn’t get the ice
cream that they do to be a color-changing one but after quite some trials, they
succeed and according to the sister of one of the entrepreneurs, a color-
changing mouth-savoring ice cream. They called their syrup formula for this, a
“Chameleon’s Charm” as chameleon is a type of animal that can adapt to the
color of the things around it.

Hiring of initial personnel

The job offerings are posted online for everyone’s searching. There are
also flyers pasted in posts nearby the place of the business to spread the job
offerings. The business owners decided that there will only be three of them who
would hire the qualified applicants for the position they are applying to.

The three business owners went to interview the applicants and

scrutinized their résumé. Applicants are told to be called or texted a week after
the interview for the results of their applications. The three business owners
discussed all the applicants to their co-partners are after a lot of discussion, the
business owners finally choose those applicants who will be a part of ICE
sCREAMs!.

Those who are hired are called to come over ICE sCREAMs! to discuss
everything that they need to know about the business and as well as the Code of
Ethics of the enterprise. Those who are not hired are texted with a message
saying that they would be fitter to a better job in other businesses and not in the
job they’ve applied to in ICE sCREAMs!.

After clarifying and discussing everything to the hired applicants, they will
need to sign their working contract and they may start their duty tomorrow
morning.

Reaching agreements with suppliers

The business plan is presented to the suppliers. The suppliers questioned

a lot about the business and its ability to pay the supplies they are going to
provide to the business. Moreover, the price of the supplies that the suppliers are
going to provide also went under negotiation. After a few hours of discussion, the
suppliers’ contract has been signed as a proof of the agreement of both sides.

Actual production

Unlike other goods such as Lucky Me Noodles and UFC Banana Catsup,
the ice creams are only made after every order. For both the classic and color-
changing ice creams, the ingredients are put up in the ice cream machine and
the ice cream machine will process it into a scoop of ice cream. However, for the
color-changing ice cream, the Chameleon’s Charm is not just added as an
ingredient to make it, it is also top on the color-changing ice creams. The scoop
of ice cream, whether classic or color-changing, is then put into the container to
serve to the customers.

Initial orders and sales

The first to try the ice creams being sold by the business are their close
friends and family relatives. They were the ones who eat out during the grand
opening of the business. Afterwards, a 1-week promo was held wherein the
prices of the ice creams are offered in half to attract the customers. The people
who went in were actually the people considered to be, technically, the initial
orders and their payments became the initial sales of the business.
