LT-MS-LS1-1 Notes and Key Concepts

LS1-1. Conduct an investigation to provide evidence that living things

are made of cells; either one cell or many different numbers and types
of cells.
1. Many organisms are microscopic—so small that they cannot be seen
with the naked eye.
2. All living things are made of cells.
3. Almost all cells are microscopic. Scientists use microscopes to see!!

4. Even though they are both too small to see, cells are much bigger
than molecules.
Observe the relative size of the molecules
compared to the cells.
5. The human microbiome contains approximately 100 trillion
microorganisms. Most of these are bacteria.
6. The human body provides an environment (food and space) for
bacteria to survive.
7. A healthy microbiome has various helpful types of bacteria.
8. Antibiotics reduce the number of helpful and harmful bacteria in the
microbiome.
