WESLEY METHODIST SCHOOL PENANG (INTERNATIONAL)

INTER-CLASS COMPETITION PROPOSAL

Overview

School sports refer to athletic programs in the context of the school setting.

Aim

 To increase the number of pupils participating in sports activities.


 To improve performances in the WMSPI school sports league.
 To motivate and encourage pupils to take pride and ownership in the inter-house
competition and represent their class/school at sports competitions.
 To encourage teamwork, sportsmanship, fair play, respect and cooperative skills among
the pupils of WMSPI.

The proposal:

 One day per week (day to be decided) pupils are invited to take part in an inter-house
sports competition.
 Competition would take place during school lunch times (13:10-13:50).
 Selected members of Active Schools Leadership Group responsible for promoting the
competitions to pupils during registration and selecting team(s) for their house. They
will also be responsible for encouraging pupils from their house to attend after school
clubs to practice for competitions (both inter-house and SSP)
 Active Schools Leadership Group would be asked to support the competition by
promoting, registering pupils and officiating competitions.
 Teaching staff asked to oversee/supervise competitions.
 Updated league table and photos to be displayed in pupil advertiser, noticeboards and
TV screens around the school.
 Suggestion box can be placed in PE Dept/outside Active Schools office for pupils to
feedback on activities offered.

Resources required:

 Use of the sports facilities and equipment for the day per week.
 Staff to help supervise activities

Scoring:

To link with the full-school inter house competition, scores will be as follows; 1st = 60 points, 2nd
= 30 points, 3rd = 10 points, No show = 0 points

INTERHOUSE COMPETITON ROLES

 Grant Posters/Noticeboard
 Dale Design and place posters on the noticeboard and throughout the school to advertise inter-
house sports competition and upcoming sports to pupils.
Pupil Advertiser
Work with Posters/Noticeboard group to promote the events in the pupil advertiser each
week. Upcoming competitions and results should be placed in the advertiser.
Cochran Team Captains
 Andrew Responsible for getting teams together for competitions each week. Can use sign up sheets on
 Duncan noticeboard and visit registration classes to encourage pupils to compete.

Officials
 John Produce fixtures prior to each competition. Referee games on the day of the competition.

Take a note of results from each game during the competition. Allocate appropriate points to
house teams and share this information with the rest of the group (i.e. for Pupil advertiser and
noticeboard)
