GENERAL METHOD STATEMENT FOR IDT CABLE PULLING

1- The cable reels should be set up in their final position onjacks or reel vehicle equipped
with a braking device to provide sufficient tension a smoothpayoff and prevent
overrunnIng.

2- Prior to the start of cable pulling, all hardwareto be used for the pull, including the rigging,
should be carefully inspected.Any damagedcomponentsshould be replaced with
undamageditems of equivalent strength.

3- Lagging and other protective should be carefully removed from the reel when the reel is in
its final position.

4- A thorough visual inspection for flaws, beaksand abrasionsof the exterior of the cable
should be made as the cablesare pulled from the reels. If an apparentdefect is noted,
pulling operationsshould be stoppedand a determinationmade as to whether repairs are
required before cable pulling is resumed.

5- Making all necessarysafetymeasuresas per the proceduresin this regard.

6- The entire path that the cable will follow during pulling should be checkedto ensurethat
the cable will ride free and clear of all obstructions, sharpedges,or projections which
might causejamming or damagedduring installation. In checking the path, allowance must
be made for the position that the cable will take when it is under tension and when it is
allowed to go slack.

7-The installation and handling of the cablesnear the cable drum and throughoutthe cable
route shall be done at all times by adequatestaff suitably trained and supplied with all
necessaryplant, equipmentand tools.

8- Install cable rollers at equal distancethroughout the cable route (as per DEW A
requirement). put comer roller at bending location in order to avoid any direct touch with
trough/trenchwalls. All rollers used shall be in serviceablecondition moving easily on
their spindle and with rolling surfacesfree from damage.

9- Use proper communication betweenthe cable drum, the cable pulling supervisorsand
pulling machine (if required) is necessarys ntained between
the supervisorsat different position of the transmissionis
usual method, and the equipmentused sho should be
thoroughly testedbefore pulling begins. /~-~y

10-Cable drum must be handled with care. When lifting the drum with a crane, use a shaft
through the centerof the drum and axle or spreaderbeamto avoid lateral pressureon
flanges.

11-All burrs and obstruction in ducts of conduits should be cleared by pulling a mandrel
closely approximating the inside diameterof the duct through the structure, followed by a
wire brush and swabto clean and remove foreign matter from the duct. Smooth, burr-free
duct surfacesare important in preventing abrasionand cutting damageto the cablejacket
during pulling.

12-For cable pulling inside the duct and tunnels the necessarycable rollers and man power
will be set. It is advisableto use funnel shapedend at the cable entranceto avoid cable
friction and abrasionwith pipe end. A suitable lubricant should be used.

13-To prevent damageto direct buried cableswhich passclose to an obstruction, they should
be cushionedby placing thermally compatible bags of sand, plates, or other suitable barrier
material betweenthe cable and the obstruction. The barrier should remain in place
permanently.

14-The maximum allowable pulling tension and sidewall bearing pressurespecified by the
Engineershould not be exceeded.During the cable installation, the tension recording
device and the stresson pulling equipmentshould be continuously monitored. If any
excessivestressesdevelop, the pulling operation should be stoppedat once and the source
of the difficulty identified. Pulling should not resumeuntil engineerhas reviewed the
problem.

15- For cable pulls that are expectedto be near the designlimits for the cable or where pulling
tension data is required, a direct reading dynamometeror load or arrangementwith a direct
readoutshould be used. Tensionmeasuringdevices should have a meansfor continuous
monitoring of the pulling tension as function of the length of cable pulled. All tension
measuring equipmentshould be calibrated as directed by the Engineer. A continuous
measurementof pulling length is also recommended.

16-Whenevera crossing is made of an existing cable, suchcable shall be securelysupported

during the progressof the work.

17-Upon completion of eachcable pull, proper cable end sealsmust be installed to prevent
entranceof moisture.

18-With the necessarycable rollers and man power the cable pulling inside the GIS basement
will be done. In all cable pulling proce uld not be exceeded.
And for temporary supporting the cabl d bags or any other
suitable soft material shall be used. /,///Y-

19- Backfilling sand shall be free from Stones, rocks and shall be carefully placed in the
trench/tough to avoid any damage to the cable.

20-Carefully cut the cable by setting the necessary loop and leaving enough cable length for
termination preparation.

21- The cable pulling shall be started after obtaining the permissions from Clients and
Contractors Engineer.

22- DC sheath test shall be carryout for cable Drum before starting pulling and any test report
without witnessing by DEW A & Manufacturer (Riyadh cables) is not acceptable.

.23- The contractor must apply all DEW A new check list & Manufacturer requirements for
.cable installing.

~the installation of the cables shall be perfonned as per DWEA new Check list and DEW A document
