2
Stage fright is the phenomenon that one must learn to control. Stage fright may arise,
disappear or diminish, but it usually doesn’t vanish permanently. You must concentrate on
getting the feeling out in the open, into perspective and under control.

Reasons:

1) Lack of confidence

2) Lack of preparation

3) Lack of experience

4) Lack of courage

5) Communication problem

6) Fear of People

7) Fear of Giving out your ideas

8) Fear of Being Rejected

Symptoms of Stage Fright

Fluttering or pounding heart, tremor in the hands and legs, diarrhoea, facial nerve tics, dry
mouth, tight throat, sweaty hands, cold hands, tremulous hands, nausea, fast pulse,

Question # 4
Recall your Maiden Presentation. Narrate your experience in planning, preparing,
and delivering it?

My Maiden presentation was about the Marketing Strategies used by McDonalds. We

were three group members, Umer, Haseeb & Me.

Planning:

3
We planned what and what aspects of McDonalds marketing plan we wanted to put into
the presentation.

Preparing:

We had collected data in the planning process. Now we arranged it according to the
requirement. We put the visual effects, advertisement clips of McDonalds and as well as
statistics.

Delivering:

We divided different parts of presentation among us, and with the help of all the data
collected and arranged we delivered it. Even when it was our first ever presentation, it
was good enough to be satisfactory.

Question # 5
What Pattern is used in this speech to organize the contents?

The most commonly followed pattern is the topical pattern. Here, you divide the topic
into some logical patterns or themes or categories. For example, when you want to present
a proposal on a new timely inventory system, you can divide the major benefits of this
system into three or four categories and present them one by one.

In this speech, divisions or categories are

1) Training

2) Leadership

3) Innovation

4) Productivity: Men

5) Productivity: Machines

6) Quality

7) Project Management

8) Suggested Management System

9) Management: A science or Arts?

10) Entrepreneurship

11) Need for More Executives

Question # 6
4
Which part of the Speech in Your opinion is most appealing?

In my opinion the most appealing part of the speech is about training.

“The most important lesson in management is that major investments should be in the
training and building of people. Reposing full trust and confidence in your people will
lead them to loyalty. They will be as loyal as you are to them. Ordinary people can give
extraordinary results, given an opportunity. You have to train people by delegating
authority to them. When you delegate authority, people will make mistakes, but it’s
through mistake that you build up people. You must have the patience, forbearance,
fortitude and large heart to bear the losses in the training of people. Opportunity must be
given to people to perform. Don’t hesitate in giving authority.”

This is the most appealing part to me and i think it would be the most appealing part to
any fresh graduate as this is what we need from employers. We all need a chance, an
opportunity and option to learn, to be trained, which unfortunately we don’t get most of
the times. In most of the organizations in our country they have the demand of
experienced persons, but let’s think about it, if you don’t give chance to fresh people, how
will they get experience and utilize their talents.

Question # 7
What are the main points of Mr. Birla’s Speech?

1) Investment should be made in the selection, training & building up of people.

2) Employer must have the forbearance, fortitude, patience, and large heart to bear the
losses in the training of people.

3) Your men will be as loyal to you, as you are to them.

4) Hard work and commitment is the most common route towards leadership.

5) Your business is with the action only, never with its fruit.

6) Gain or loss, life or death, credit or discredit they are all in the hands of God.

7) One has to innovate to survive and to excel.

8) Established norms and methods of doing business must be questioned, if we want to

progress.

9) We have to improve our existing systems, however good they may be. The norms that
are excellent today will become outdated tomorrow. What seems unachievable today,
becomes a matter of fact tomorrow and the day after, becomes obsolete.

10) Those who innovate, those who constantly strive for higher productivity, will survive
and prosper.

5
11) Industry is a jealous mistress! She requires constant wooing.

12) We build, most of the times, our own mental barriers, which are the most difficult to
overcome, than the actual problem of increasing productivity.

13) In a time of change, it is the learners who inherit the future. The learned find
themselves equipped to live only in a world that no longer exists.

14) There is nothing that can’t be achieved, provided you have an open mind, the
will, the devotion, determination, enthusiasm, and vision to achieve the seemingly
impossible.

15) While quality costs, poor quality costs more.

16) Through participative management by consensus, when finally a decision is

reached, it is mature, balanced and well thought out.

17) You have to develop your own art of dealing with each situation.
