GUNDLACH

4000 SERIES CRUSHERS

ROLL REMOVAL PROCEDURE

WITH COUPLING MOUNTED ROLLS

1.0 Remove the end section of the hopper and dribble chute. On the adjustable roll
end this will require removing the alignment shafts. Rolls are normally removed
out the back of the crusher opposite the Nitroil system.

2.0 Remove six coupling bolts from each hub of the roll/shaft coupling flange. Rotate
the roll so that the remaining two bolts are on top.

3.0 Insert the roll removal rail in the mounting bar and pass the pin through the slots.

4.0 By turning the adjustment screws, raise the rail until the rail is touching the rolls.

5.0 Install wooden blocks under the shafts to prevent the shafts from pivoting and
damaging the bearing seals. The v-belts will need to be loosened and the
flywheel supported.

6.0 Remove the remaining shaft/coupling bolts.

7.0 Pry the stub shafts away from roll and inward towards the floating bearing. This
is necessary because the shaft ends are piloted (5/16 inch). Now slide the roll
away from opposite end to allow the piloted shaft to slip out of the roll hub.

8.0 Roll the roll along the removal rail and hoist out of the crusher. Caution: Roll can
move quickly due to the weight of the roll.

9.0 Remove the center section of the hopper and follow above procedure to remove
the remaining roll.

10.0 To install rolls, use reverse procedure.

11.0 Torque the roll/shaft coupling bolts to 1,000 ft-lbs (138 kg-m). A hammer type
wrench works well.

NOTE: 1.0 The floating bearing is opposite the gearbox or on 2 motor drive
crushers, is opposite the drive.

2.0 Roll removal rails are normally kept on the crusher level or in the
warehouse.
