CAUTION

The OpenVisionTM produces ionizing radiation when energized and

must be operated by qualified personnel who must read the Warning
section of the manual before operating.

QSA Global, Inc. cannot be held responsible for damages caused by

inadequate training, misuse, or unsafe practices in the operation of the
OpenVisionTM system.

It is unlawful to use this equipment to intentionally expose humans or

animals for use in medical radiography.

LOSS, STOLEN, DESTROYED

Equipment that is lost, stolen or destroyed must be reported to QSA

Global, Inc. Including the date of incident and serial number.

-2-
v2.5 – March 2015
DANGER – IMPORTANT WARNINGS
To ensure proper functioning and use of this product do not use until you read and
completely understand this operation manual. It contains set-up, start-up,
operating, and troubleshooting procedures.

The OpenVisionTM is an industrial X-ray generator that produces hazardous

ionizing radiation when energized.

It is unlawful to use this equipment to intentionally expose humans or animals or for

medical radiography.

The OpenVisionTM system is subject to the regulatory practices of your country or

region. Contact your country or regional radiation equipment regulatory office
before operating the system.

The operator of the OpenVisionTM must be properly trained in radiation safety

before operating the system.

Unauthorized personnel should not have access to the OpenVisionTM system.

Authorized personnel should safeguard the controller key.

Develop and closely follow a safe operating procedure for using the OpenVisionTM
system. The safe operating procedure must ensure that:

• The general public is not exposed to radiation above the permissible limits,
which in most countries is 0.02 mSv (2 mR) in any one hour for a member of the
public. Procedures must account for primary and secondary radiation.

• The safe operating procedure must ensure the OpenVisionTM system is used
within regulations of your country or region.

All operators of the OpenVisionTM system should wear a personal radiation

monitoring device, such as a TLD (thermo luminescent dosimeter), film badge, and
a pocket dosimeter consistent with company policy and state or federal government
regulations.

The OpenVisionTM system has no explosion proof rating and should not be used in
an explosive atmosphere.

All operations should be conducted to expose the operator to radiation levels

“As Low As Reasonably Achievable“ (ALARA). Always use the “Low” setting for
mA when hand-holding the system.

v2.5 – March 2015
Overview

This manual contains the operating instructions for the

OpenVisionTM system when used in handheld mode of operation.
The system is manufactured by the Digital Products Group of
QSA Global, Inc. in Houston, Texas, USA.

Operation

The OpenVisionTM system utilizes a proprietary intensified video

imaging system that captures radiographic images that are then
displayed on a hand held LCD, head mounted display, or portable
recorder with LCD display in real-time (30 frames/sec).

Operating Conditions

The OpenVisionTM system is designed for applications where the

equipment and cabling will not be exposed to harsh handling or
environmental extremes. See the Specifications sheet on page 5
for more information.

-6-
v2.5 – March 2015
Overview
(continued)

X-Ray Training

It is expected that operators of the OpenVisionTM system are

properly trained and qualified to safely perform radiographic
inspections. This guide does not address radiation safety
requirements or radiographic inspection procedures.

General Precautions

Although the OpenVisionTM system is designed for portability, the

equipment still contains sensitive electrical components. Care
must be used to avoid strong vibrations or shock (i.e. dropping
the unit or transporting outside of the approved case) to the
imager, X-RAY tube, displays and recording equipment.

Do not attempt to open or modify imager, x-ray tube, or controller

housings.

WARNING

Opening the imager, X-RAY tube, or controller housing voids the

system warranty and may expose you to a high voltage shock
hazard.

Do not allow liquids to contact any part of the OpenVisionTM

system.

Appropriate care should be taken to protect all cabling and

connectors to ensure the reliable and safe operation of the
system.

0.02mSv exposure in 15 mins 0.02mSv exposure in 15 mins
0.02mSv exposure in <1 sec 0.02mSv exposure in <1 sec

Note: Exercise additional caution when using the carbon

fiber extension tube as X-RAYs will pass around the
imager. Always try to keep the area behind the imager
clear of living organisms when possible.

An operator must NEVER expose themselves to the

direct X-RAY beam (diagrammed on page 10).

Operator should
always position
themselves behind
the X-RAY port and
use the hand grip(s)
provided.

v2.5 – March 2015
Safety and Handling

Trigger Guards

The OpenVision system is equipped with trigger guards

to prevent accidental x-ray emission. Removal of these
guards may violate the regulations of your country or
region.

-29-
v2.5 – March 2015
Troubleshooting

Problem: The light on the X-RAY tube blinks repeatedly when X-

RAY trigger is pressed.

Solution: Battery is low. Replace / Recharge the battery.

Problem: No output; unit does not turn on.

Solution: Check all connections (especially Imager Cable inside

the Carbon Fiber Tubing). Check battery condition.

Problem: LCD Display too dark or too light in center.

Solution A: Adjust brightness and contrast using Monitor control

panel

Solution B: Adjust kV and mA to increase or decrease X-RAY

flux and power.

Problem: Head Mounted Display image is upside down or split

in half.

Solution: Adjust the NTSC/PAL mode or flip 180 degrees.

These settings can be accidentally reset when attaching the HMD
if the buttons are pressed at the same time. See page 18 for
instructions to adjust settings.

-30-
v2.5 – March 2015
Troubleshooting
(continued)

Problem: Low X-RAY output or misaligned image.

Solution: Inspect collimator and tube head for damage,

misalignment or debris blocking collimator. Visually confirm the
focal spot is visible at the bottom of the collimator by removing
cap. Clear debris if required. If the tube or collimator has
rotated, determine if the locking screws are in place to secure
parts in position . If parts are damaged or missing contact QSA
Global for parts or service.

Problem: The X-RAY stops after 90 seconds of operation.

Solution: The system has a safety feature to avoid accidental

long term exposure. After 90 seconds, the system automatically
stops producing X-RAYs. Releasing and pressing the trigger will
restart the production of X-RAYs.

If problems persist that are not shown in the list above, please email
support@qsa-global.com or call one of the phone numbers listed on the back
of the manual for assistance. Thank you.
