B. Organization of Paragraphs
Paragraph 1 Introduction: Topics, Thesis of Speech, Your thesis
statement

Body Paragraphs 2-4 Compare and contrast speech to the real Peloponnesian
War by focusing on evaluating and analyzing at least 2 of
the following topics:
- What is the purpose of the speech?
- The characteristics of Athenian Democracy
within the speech
- Thucydides’ presentation of Security and
courage; Non-security roles of Citizens
within Pericles’ Speech

Paragraph 5 Conclusion: continue with your final points of evaluation


and analysis of the speech and comparing and contrasting it
to what happens in the war itself

spaced. You should use your notes from lecture, notes on the oration (step 1) and the copy of Pericles’ Funeral
Oration to complete this essay. No outside sources are allowed. If you need further clarification on the subject
matter, ask me for help. Your submission is due to schoology by 8am on Tuesday, Nov. 20th 2018
(Regardless of whether you will be at school or not. If you are starting your thanksgiving break early, you
should plan to submit your essay before you leave) and must be submitted as a pdf document and You
MUST also submit a printed copy of your essay to Ms. Bouldin. Please refer to the Guide to Writing in the
