Students and teachers are allowed to use hard copies of the scores for educational

You'll find the complete album Scenes from Childhood by Robert Schumann on
his special page.
If you're just a beginner and you would like to try something else besides the things
your teacher has you study, then we advise you to start with Oesten's Golden
Drops. An even better choice would be the second composition, called "Bubbles in
the sun", from the album "Nicole" by Rowy van Hest (prv) or the melodic studies
by Burgmüller.
Theodor Oesten wrote a piano album called "Golden Drops", a collection of 25
very short and easy pieces for piano. Oesten was born in Berlin in 1813. He was a
successful piano teacher and writer of easy to play and attractive music. Theodor
Oesten died in 1870.
We found a revised edition of the album, published by Henry Litolff around 1900.
It was edited by Clemens Schultze. Litolff is known for its famous "Collection
Litolff". This album belongs to the collection.
Rowy van Hest wrote "Nicole", 6 easy compositions for piano, dedicated to her
daughter Nicole Melanie. Although her father was a music teacher, it was not until
she was sixteen that Rowy learned to play an instrument. When she was eighteen,
she finished a concerto for strings. At the age of nineteen, Rowy was accepted to
the conservatory of music to study composition.
A few years after she finished her study at the (European) conservatory of music,
she started to write romantic, somewhat melancholic music in a classical style. The
small album "Nicole" is an example of a more recent style: sunny, tender and
playful. You can hear and feel her love for her daughter. This album comes with a
bonus, namely "The cat", Nicole's favorite animal.

Rowy's latest work is CONTENT, a piano album with 100 new compositions.
Some are already quite popular, like number 77 'Wild horses'. Have a look at
the piano album.
Carl Reinecke was an excellent piano player, who was much appreciated by
musicians like Mendelssohn, Schumann and Liszt. As a composer he was
influenced by Schumann. Reinecke, who lived from 1824 to 1910, had a younger
half-sister to whom he dedicated 15 small fantasias for the piano.
The "Kleine Fantasiestücke" is more difficult than the music by Hans Harthan. If
you enjoy playing "Kinderszenen" by Schumann, you could try these compositions,
although some of them are a bit boring. We used the second edition from 1859 -
which was an improved version of the first one - to make you a free PDF.
Bruno Wandelt wrote 8 little pieces for the piano and called them "Nippsachen",
which means "Trinkets". We know nothing about this composer. The album was
published by Simrock in Berlin, probably before 1930. His music is more melodic
and less weighty than the music by Hartman or Reinecke. If you like to play
waltzes, you should try no. 3 "Puppenwalzer" (The doll's waltz). It could have been
written by Johann Strauss.
Louis Streabbog was actually called Jean Louis Gobbaerts. Gobbaerts, 1835 -
1886, was a Belgian composer who worked as a pianist and a piano teacher in
Brussels. He wrote a great number of popular pianoforte compositions. His music
is typical for the period he lived in. To modern ears it's not that interesting
anymore, but some of his work is still popular among nowadays piano teachers and
students.
Edvard Grieg, 1843 – 1907, was a Norwegian composer and pianist who
composed in the romantic period. He is best known for his Piano Concerto in A
minor, for his incidental music to Henrik Ibsen's play Peer Gynt, (which includes
Morning Mood and In the Hall of the Mountain King), and for his collection of the
piano miniatures "Lyric Pieces". The "Lyrische Stücke" Opus 12 is very popular
among amateur pianists and children, because of the Waltz in A Minor and the
Fairy Dance.
We found a very interesting piano album by Oswald. It's called "Scout & Guide
Marches, tuneful and well marked for time, also suitable for schools etc.". It's not
clear to us if these marches were commissioned by a Scout organisation, but they
are very suited for children and older amateur players who are scouts, or
sympathize with them. Some of the titles are: Shield and Buckler, Changing the
Guard and Boys to the Front. If you don't care much for Scouting activities, you
might enjoy these titles: Tin Soldiers' Parade, March of the Elves and Teddy Bears'
March. They're all easy to play.
The "Notebook for Anna Magdalena Bach" by Bach is a famous collection of easy
pieces for harpsichord or piano. Most beginners own a copy of the notebook,
because it is often used by piano teachers. The next step for beginners and amateurs
is the booklet "Twelve little Preludes" by Bach. Not all amateurs get as far as this.
Some preludes are a bit difficult to play, but if you would like to have a go at it, we
suggest you start with the 2nd prelude.
A medley of popular (in those days) melodies for the average piano player. You
will enjoy this one. The melodies: Carmen, Santa Lucia, Stars and Stripes, Sobre
las Olas and many more.
Peter Nicolai von Wilm, born 4 March 1834 in Riga - Latvia, died 20 February
1911 in Wiesbaden - Germany. All we know about this composer is that he worked
in St. Petersburg as a teacher and that he had some succes with a string sextet,
which was published after his dead by Schwieck Verlag in Leipzig as Opus 150.
We offer you the first book of Easy pieces Opus 81 for piano. The 12 pieces are as
easy as "Nicole" by Rowy, but they do sound a bit more academic.
The First Ball is a collection of 7 dances. Some of them are (or were) very
popular. The titles are: Amoureuse - Berger, Valse Basque - Wittmann, Ruse
d'Amour - Van Luck, The Veleta - Morris, Three O'Clock in the Morning -
Robledo, Der Vogelhandeler - Zeller and Donau-Wellen by Ivanovici. They are all
easy to play.
Mendelssohn enjoyed writing music for children. His Pieces for Children Opus 72
are just as nice as his Lieder ohne Worte. Kinderstücke is easier to play than the
Lieder, but not as easy as the Lyric Pieces Op 12 by Grieg.
Schubert was the son of a schoolmaster. First taught music by his elder brothers he
soon surpassed them. The young Schubert came under the tutelage of Salieri. At 21
he was appointed music master in the household of Count Esterhazy, and there he
found time to compose. Schubert endured much poverty and hardship. He died at
the age of 31.
In this free piano album you'll find the famous Moment Musical in F minor and the
Scherzo in B flat. It's an educational edition with lots of interesting remarks by
Dorothy Bradley.
